The length of a training session depends on several factors - dog's age, breed, personality, and learning style. It will also depend on what I am working on during that training session.
Some training sessions last only 5-10 minutes. Others, Like when I am working in public may last 20-30 minutes or longer.
Regardless of where or what the training session is about, I try to break it down into four sections:
- Building reward markers and luring
- Obedience commands
- Freedom
- Relaxation

The thing that the door and the leash have in common is they are two of the biggest areas that I see people arguing with their dogs and losing. What I mean by that is most people do not want their dogs barging out the door. Most people do not want their dogs pulling them on a leash. Yet, they still allow their dogs to barge out open doors. They still allow their dogs to pull them when they are on a leash.
Introducing MONTHLY CHALLENGES!
Every month I'm going to offer a challenge and anyone can participate. Rules are simple: post a video of you and your dog doing the challenge following that challenge's rules, tag me, and use the hashtag #sdtmonthlychallenge.
New challenges and rules will be available in my newsletter or on my website (links in bio).
This month is all about HAND SIGNALS. Show off your dog doing any commands using only hand signals. (NO VERBAL CUES). Must be able to tell that no verbal cues are used and videos must be less than 2 minutes in length.
Here is my entry with Bo doing place, sit, and down.
