DC PAWS Rescue We save homeless animals from rural, high-kill shelters and help them find new homes in the Washington, DC-region. DC PAWS is a 501(c)3 organization.

Our organization is an all-volunteer, foster-based dog and cat rescue in the Washington, DC area. We partner with a rescue team in Pickens County, S.C., which saves adoptable cats and dogs from the county’s animal control facility. This facility lacks the resources to facilitate adoptions to the public. Without support for local adoptions, all animals not claimed within the mandated hold period ar

e killed. For the animals in this rural area, rescue is the only lifeline. Our rescue partner, All Dogs of Pickens Transport, works with DC PAWS to save as many dogs and cats as possible, and they have established a successful spay/neuter clinic in the community to decrease the number of homeless and unwanted animals over the long term. We are a rescue committed to positive-reinforcement, force-free training. We put into practice the most current science and understanding of animal behavior and how dogs and cats think and learn. Any of the resources or trainers suggested by our behavior coordinator reflect our values and mission as a positive organization. We do not allow the use of inhumane tools on the animals in our care. No choke chains, shock collars or pinch collars allowed. You can help us as a short-term volunteer or with a more long-term commitment. Foster homes in the DC-Baltimore region are always needed, but we can find a way for most any interested adult to contribute and help.
