What they said 🐾👉🏽 Whether you’re traveling in a car or on a plane, here are a few tips I’ve found to be helpful. (Feel free to add your tips in the comments below.)

- Walk your dog before leaving, so he’s had the opportunity to potty and also be in rest mode.
- Be packed and prepared the day before, so you aren’t rushed the morning of travel.
- If your dog is an anxious traveler, you can consider a sedative but I prefer to prepare them with short car rides in advance to get them used to going places. (If needed, look up “safe or natural pet sedatives for travel”)
- It’s really helpful if you make their pet carrier a positive place to go, BEFORE your travel day. Train with treats!
- I don’t encourage a big meal the morning of travel.
- Just before travel, line the pet carrier cushion with a potty pad in case your dog vomits.
- Bring extra potty pads (wipies too) and have them handy.
- Pack and have accessible, bottle for water, collapsible bowl, treats, food, leash, harness, favorite snuggle toy.

Airplane:
- Check with your airline before travel (ideally 48 hrs. before)
- Although not likely needed if you aren’t traveling outside your country, your airline may ask for a vaccine or health record. Check with your airline for their pet regulations & requirements.
- Give yourself extra time at the airport so your dog isn’t feeling rushed or getting jostled around at the airport.
- Be sure your pet carrier is airline approved to fit under the seat in front of you for small dogs. (Or pet cargo for big dogs) For the carriers we use, go to

Do everything you can in advance so you’re feeling relaxed. Hiccups happen, and when they do keep your reactions calm - if not for yourself, do it for your dog. 🐶
