Lowe’s run with Virginia and Zip to pick up parts to repair outdoor runs and make them safer and more useful. My sidekicks were very helpful ! They were fascinated by the cut Christmas trees, possibly the strong smell, not sure but we had to make two slow passes for them to be satisfied.

Rescue gratitude 11/23 from our friend Mrs. Frances who adopted sweet girl Riley. Riley was adopted from a shelter by university students. When the new wore off about 24 hours in they were going to dump her when another responsible student stepped in and then asked us to help. I contacted the shelter and they were fine with us taking her and that is how Riley ended up with the Summerville family living the great life.

Let’s see how things are going…

Where do I begin with this mischievous little girl. After losing our 16 year old little dog a couple of years ago, I was finally ready to get another dog. I don't think Riley, now Piper, had been mistreated, but she had been in a couple of different homes and returned. That may have been because she wasn't the innocent little puppy that she looked like!😁 After having her a couple of weeks, I thought, what have I gotten myself into! Her name was changed to Hyper Piper! But, I know you have to give them time to adjust. Fast forward six months, she has absolutely won our hearts. She keeps us laughing and is so mischievous. I thought she was going to be a small dog, but now she has reached 30 lbs! I mention this to say she loves to snuggle and she will get in our laps and curl up into a little ball. I think she is possibly my husband's favorite dog ever. He has always liked dogs, but not like I do. Well, let me just tell you, Piper has turned him into a mushy old man!😂😅 We are both so happy with her and thankful for Callie's Place and all they do in caring for these precious babies. May God bless y'all.

Traced edit: more proof that patience and love wins! Makes me so happy. Adopt a rescue pup or kitty !

Happy Sunday !

Wanted to give everyone an update on Harriet. After a very rough week battling a nasty upper respiratory infection she’s finally feeling better. Harriet stopped eating and that was scary but she is feeling better.

But one of her issues is not better and that’s this huge mammary tumor primarily due to her not being spayed. This may or may not be operable. During her shelter vet visit this was not fully addressed due to her poor physical condition. But we are working on that and Dr. White will examine her and make that decision.

The reality is this tumor may end Harriet’s life. These tumors tend to be invasive and are not easy surgeries especially when they are so large they impair movement. If only her owners had addressed the tumor early or better yet spayed her but it is too late for that.

So if you are debating whether or not to spay your companion animals stop debating and make the call to schedule the vet appoitment for their surgery. It’s not worth the risk. Neuter the males as well as being intact carries its own set of problems (literally).

Once we know if Harriet is a surgical candidate for spay and /or tumor removal we will fund raise for her. If you would like to send her a sweater or treats I’m sure that she would like that a lot. We are going to spoil her and pray that surgery is an option.

Spay/neuter. Help them, help others and save yourself heartache.

Wanted to take a minute and brag on our sweet girls who have made so much progress. I think back to their sad sickly eyes that I first saw at the shelter to now bright shiny happy healthy loving eyes. They did it. They broke the chains of fear, neglect and survival mode to living and loving. That is not easy for people or for dogs but they did it.

That deserves recognition for our adoptable girls Trinity and Heela.

Much love and respect,

Mom and Dad (who we will happily remain until their forever comes along)

Let’s see how this lucky kitty story goes …

On November 22 we are grateful for Yeti, formerly Potter. After our Great Dane passed away, we came up with the crazy idea to adopt a kitty to keep our dog Bo company. We saw Potter on Callie’s Place page. He was found in a box in a parking lot during a thunderstorm. He had some s***k and we decided he was the one for us. Since adopting him, he has been the glue to hold our pet family together. He bonded with Bo, and later, the two other kitties that joined our family. Unfortunately, now it’s just the kitties. After Bo lost his battle with cancer, Yeti has become quite the lap kitty for Cliff, and the referee for the two girl kitties. We don’t regret for a moment adopting this precious fellow from Callie’s Place ❤️

Tracey edit : I love seeing Yeti all grown up and acting like a big boy because when he was with us he was a tiny little sprite and very wild. Love getting to be a stop on their journey and appreciate our rescue loving friends.

Rescue gratitude 11/21…. The perfect day for our sweet friend Abbie to share her rescue journey ….so many stars fell out of the sky and lined up perfectly to make this happen.

Now for their story …..

I wasn’t looking for another pet.
My sweet Cosmo passed away of very old age in July, and I was completely heartbroken. I couldn’t sleep, and honestly, I didn’t think my heart had space for another animal yet.

I had followed Callie’s Place on Facebook because a friend had done Serve Day projects there. One afternoon in September, I was sitting at my desk in Birmingham when a post popped up asking if anyone could transport a cat from surgery in Hoover to Tuscaloosa.

I don’t know why, but I said yes immediately. I’m not usually that spontaneous! I exchanged info with Tracey, left work, and headed to Hoover to pick up the cat. The ride was easy — the cat was quiet and comfy in the carrier — and when I got to the meetup spot in Tuscaloosa, I finally met Tracy in person.

She mentioned the cat was available for adoption, but I explained that after losing Cosmo, I wasn’t sure I was ready… and some of my closest friends are very allergic to cats, so that door was pretty much closed. She said, “Well, we have dogs too — I can send you some pictures.” Again, not sure why I said yes, but I did.

For the next couple of weeks, we texted back and forth and she sent photos of different dogs. Then one picture came through that made my heart beat a little faster. She asked if I’d like to meet a couple of them, and I said yes — picked my two, completed the adoption paperwork, and got approved.

When we met, I’d been told that one of the dogs wasn’t very social and didn’t really like anyone but Barry. But from the moment I saw him — Percy, now named Biff — it was game over. He was mine, and I was his.

And just like that… I slept soundly for the first time since July.

Biff is now my furbaby, my shadow, my smart little cuddle bunny, and truly the most handsome good boy. I love spoiling him, and I’m so grateful he found his way to me — in the most unexpected way possible. 🐾

Tracey edit : Sometimes okay often times we don’t understand that we are actually taking steps on a journey to something that is really wonderful. It may just feel like well, steps. But it’s not, steps lead to paths which lead somewhere and sometimes it is magical. This adoption was just that, magical. Adopt a rescue pet !

Had some top notch helpers this afternoon ..

Super happy to see Penny the red dachshund so active. She’s really been struggling with heart, kidney and congestion issues all likely attributed to being heartworm positive. Don’t skip the preventative it’s truly life or death for them!

Rescue gratitude 11/20…..from our sweet friend Ryan who adopted Mounds (now Woody) and turned a country pup into a city boy! She was dedicated and determined and we waited and watched so concerned only for Ryan and Mounds to make it happen!

So here is their story ….

I got Woody (who was named Mounds at the time) in July of 2024 from Callie’s Place and he’s the best dog ever!! My roommates had all gone home for the summer while I was still in Tuscaloosa, and I had no intention of getting a dog until I saw him pop up on my facebook. I went to meet him and immediately knew I wanted to adopt him❤️ When I first got him he was terrified of being on a leash, going in the car, using the elevators in my apartment building, and more. I spent the rest of my summer break working with him on these things, and it paid off🥰 Now, he loves to go on walks/hikes, he’s an expert on elevators, he loves meeting new dogs and people, and he’s even driven across the country with me twice! I was nervous at first he wouldn’t be able to do these things because of how scared he was initially, but it just took a lot of patience and love❤️ My friends and family love him, and adopting him was the best decision ever!!!💕🐶

Tracey edit : This adoption was one for the ages as Mounds was a puppy, a shy puppy who lived a very laid back life in the country with us. So elevators were new and scary, high rise apartments with lots of walkways and strangers was scary and even car traffic on the UA strip was scary but he did it thanks to an owner who never gave up. Barry and I even said that this transition would have been hard on the two of us so to see Mounds do it — respect ! The fact that he loved other dogs definitely was a plus in his transition so that was a building block but Ryan put in the real work and we are forever grateful. To go from the euthanasia list as a tiny 6ish week old puppy to living big ! Happy tears.

Hatter is available for adoption !

Yesterday’s rescue gratitude post featured Sunny who just happens to have a brother named Hatter who just happens to be as awesome as she is and he is available for adoption!

Hatter is approximately 10.5/11 months old so he is mostly grown and he is a great size. Hatter is a little guy in the 25 lb range and he has a great personality. Hatter is loving, attentive and great with the other dogs and doesn’t bother the cats which is always a plus !

He is neutered, dewormed, vaccinated and on monthly preventatives so all the medical boxes are marked done ! Now he is ready for his next chapter which is a forever home where he is loved and treated like the little gentleman that he is. Hatter is smart like his mom and his every level is moderate so he is no couch potato but he doesn’t require marathon length runs to stay happy.

Let’s get this little guy in a home for Thanksgiving !

Please share.

Rescue gratitude 11/19 from our sweet friend Rita ….she and Sunny had a little rough go of it in the beginning as they both adjusted but she stuck it out and I so appreciate the commitment.

Let’s go….

“Get a dog!” They all said…I was going through a rough time, my husband died in December, 2019. Then Covid hit. Covid and grief is a hard combination. So, I got a dog, Josie Faye Ray, a shorkie who was being rehomed. There were still days I didn’t want to get out of bed, but Josie Faye whined enough to get me up. Eventually, it wasn’t so hard to get up…..Josie rescued me. She made my house a home again. About a year ago, I felt I needed to rescue another dog, to pay it forward…I started watching rescue ministries, and found Callie’s Place. Barry and Tracey had just rescued a mom and 5 puppies. I fell in love with a little golden puppy. I talked to my friend Mary Calhoun and she highly recommended Callie’s Place and suggested I get a “box full of puppies. “ I made an appointment and went to visit the little golden girl I saw on Facebook. She came over and laid her head on my arm. I told Tracey “this is the one.” She chose me, and I am so thankful. Her name is now Sunny Day Ray, truly my ray of sunshine. She is the best, her whole body wags with her tail! We had some rough nights but with encouragement from Callie’s Place, and Mary Calhoun, I learned about rescues and how to help them adapt. We are doing great, and everyone who meets Sunny loves her. Sunny goes to daycare at Barks & Bubbles, and has the best time. (Thank you to the crew there who loves my Sunny!) Sunny is a funny dog, sleeps in the oddest positions, has the longest legs, jumps really high, and makes me smile every day!

On this week of Thanksgiving, THANK YOU to Callie’s Place. My life has been blessed by Sunny. And you!! Y’all are doing God’s work on Earth. I am so thankful for rescuers! Y’all are amazing! God bless you!

And to Mary Calhoun, I didn’t get a box full, but I wish I could.

My babies take up a huge part of my life (and bed!), but even a bigger part of my heart. They are the best. When you add a dog to your life, it changes your story. 🐾

Tracey edit: adopt a rescue pet. Whatever the challenges, in the end it will be worth it.

Good morning everyone! Happy Wednesday !

Here’s hoping we all have as great of a hair day as Evelyn is. She decided to hide in the greenhouse this morning and our hair was similar to hers as she gave us a scare.

Evelyn has blood sugar issues and we admittedly panic the minute she is off her routine. But we are learning that the greenhouse is irresistible to them these days.

Evelyn wears clothes year round due to having basically no fur on her body and she can sunburn quickly during warmer months and she is very cold natured. Her clothes upset some people (why I don’t know ) so I wanted to explain why she is always clothed instead of going naked. Plus she said she’s getting in the holiday spirit with her “wed” shirt.
