Welcome to Callie's Place! A 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Callie’s Place is a very active animal rescue at present.

We currently house many dogs and cats that are up for adoption as well we provide lifelong sanctuary for many others who for various reasons are not available for adoption. We speak at churches, schools, civic clubs and other events on the benefits and necessity of spay and neuter. We are a no-kill rescue, which means once an animal makes it to us it is safe. Goals:
1. To improve the lives of pet

s and people in West Alabama with an emphasis on our communities by giving unnurtured, unloved animals a second, real chance.
2. Teaching children and adults about the proper care of pets and domestic animals
3. And teaching about the benefits of spay and neuter thru
a. Mobile spay neuter clinic
b. Partnerships with local vet offices and universities
4. Establishment of a Callie’s Place Shelter

Happy Sunday !

We have a plan in place for Harriet.

Tomorrow is surgery day.

Harriet seems to be feeling better, little baby Tinsel has brought life to her momma’s heart even though they are on separate sides of our bedroom they can see each other. I always suspected Harriet had probably had puppies before but seeing how she responds to Tinsel I know for sure. Every little noise and Harriet is looking her way. Maybe Tinsel will motivate Harriet to forge through some tough recovery days.

Also wanted you all to see the hand sewn sweater that Susan sent to her (along with several others as well). It’s too warm for her to wear outside today but tomorrow morning she will wear it to Tidmore Vet along with her coat that was sent to her. And when she gets home she will change into more clothes that were sent to her. Harriet has been shown so much love and support. And I don’t know who it was but for those who donated directly to the vet we are blown away.

I have total faith in Dr. White tomorrow as he will remove two tumors. The plan is to remove the large one and if she’s steady he will remove the second one. He feels good about the surgery and like us knows that large one is causing more and more problems. Harriet is older so there are risks and he said that she may lose significant blood as he removes the big tumor. But it has to be done as it’s literally sucking the life out of her.

Please pray for Harriet and Dr White and his staff and we could use an extra prayer too.

The two big guys that give the others not only protection and direction when outside but they give them freedom. And they give us freedom to enjoy all that we do with them.

Both rescues. Two dogs that need a job and responsibilities to keep them fit and healthy.

Forge is much older, pulled from Tuscaloosa Metro off of the euthanasia list and Timmy born to a stray dog and found his purpose at Callie’s Place. Timmy has learned from Forge and he is an excellent student.

Wakes up happy in spite of her troubles… Harriet goes back to see Dr. White for a recheck later today.

Prayers that she is improving and on track for surgery soon.

No words to explain how much she is loved. Little sleepy head seemed to know that I wasn’t feeling well this morning and she didn’t budge except to give me a few kisses. I wouldn’t think it’s comfortable for her to sleep on my arm but it’s where she chooses.

Without further delay ….. good news to share.

Tinsel somehow someway made the nice list and got toys and treats which she doesn’t want to share. The favorite thing that Tinsel liked about her toys was me playing with her. I love being her playmate so that worked out perfectly.

Tinsel is super excited and has a plan going into 2026 of 363 naughty days….yea us i just hope that we can keep up until her forever family comes along.

We have had a very busy day as every day is when you live the rescue life but it’s been a great day.

Thank you all for your amazing support and for putting up with our nonsense! I mean Tinsel’s nonsense as she is the ring leader.

Merry Christmas everyone from Harriet and the Callie’s Place family!

We are moving slow this morning but that’s okay, memory making in progress.

And I was only going to post these “good” holiday pics of Harriet but then I thought I have to post the “true” Harriet pics because they are the best of all. Harriet didn’t care about the snuggly Christmas blanket or her toys she placed herself as close to me as she could get. That’s all that Harriet has wanted from day 1 and that is to be loved. So Harriet’s Christmas wish has come true. Now we pray our Christmas wish for her comes true as soon as she’s physically strong enough.

Harriet has Christmas figured out, it’s not the presents, the Christmas props or the perfect picture, it’s about being close to those you love whether that’s physically or in your heart. Actually Harriet has life in general figured out.

I was just telling baby Tinsel about Santa Claus and how he is definitely going to need Rudolph guiding him tonight with all of the fog. She was all ears then we got to the naughty versus nice list and she started to squirm as she can be a little sassy.

Like Banki she has to get that last word in and she said that Santa dude is welcome here as long as it doesn’t interfere with her 11pm feeding and the reindeer best not get all of the dogs stirred up as we need our sleep. I am not sure what the man in red is going to think about that.

I told her I would ask you all which list you think she will be on ? So tell me how do you all think the little sq**rt is going to fair…..

I am thinking nice as we have already had one Christmas miracle in that I was able to stand up after sitting flat on the hard floor playing with her for an hour. 🙋‍♀️

I found the most beautiful spot of leaves and the most beautiful little Tink ….

Tink lives every minute of every day in this state of mind. With four bad legs which makes mobility challenging it would be easy to just stay behind. Not Tink. She rushes to the area where she swims every day with this wonderful optimistic attitude, so much respect for her.

Happy and Merry Christmas Eve!

Nothing to see here as we hang out with the air conditioning running, Christmas in the south. 🙃

So I wanted you all to see the two new guineas enjoying a Christmas snack, a little slice of fresh raw pumpkin (limited treat only to avoid stomach upset). Was feeding the torts and Lollie Bea and shared with them. They were very unsure but interested. This is their third fresh treat, turnip greens, winter grass and now pumpkin.

All animals deserve a little “extra” when possible, certainly two that were left without a care, thank goodness for family that stepped in.

Now they will be waiting on Santa Claus at Callie’s Place and no worries, I got their address changed at the North Pole before the elves finished loading the sleigh. 😄🎄

Will show others getting Christmas treats as day goes.

Alice is amazing, adorable and available! This is one of the puppies that is turning me into a puppy person.

Alice is approx 10 months old so she’s mostly grown at less than 20 lbs. She is believed to be a beagle/lab shepherd other mix (high on the other)!

Alice is the sweetest most loving pup as is her mother. She is dog and cat friendly and has the most chill personality. She is energetic but not over the top, loves going for a short walk or a long hike. Very attentive and obedient on the walks.

Loving, smart, small and so friendly there is just really no downside to Alice.

Give her a chance as I did and you will see…

Oh and did I mention she’s incredibly beautiful.

Happy Tuesday everyone !

So today is going to be puppy day I suppose since it’s getting close to Christmas even Rescue Grinch the self proclaimed not a puppy person ( talking about me!) has fallen for three puppies and I don’t know what has gotten into me. I will blame baby Tinsel who is our foster by accident since her “supposed to be” foster ended up in the hospital. I love her so much and celebrate more every day as she moves outside the parvo window.

The first featured puppy is Bodhi. From his happy little smiling face to his playful antics, I’m wrapped. You will be too once you meet him. He is literally growing up with us and we don’t want that! We want him to have a forever family of his own. Bodhi doesn’t mind sharing the attention but he would prefer to be the center of attention. That’s what he deserves.

Bodhi is approximately 6 months old and weighs approx 15 pounds so he should be a smaller medium sized adult. He is fully vetted and ready to go!

Bodhi would be happy as an only child or happy with canine siblings! He is super smart, loyal and will be your best friend in no time.

Their happy place.

Bryce and Beasley spent 4 or more years trapped inside a filthy room. No exercise, no interaction with others, their life was limited by what must have been mental health problems of their owner. Making matters go from bad to worse somehow Beasley’s leg got broken and he got no vet care.

Imagine your life being four walls, layer after layer of your excrement that you couldn’t do anything about. Then you deal with a broken then as it healed then a deformed leg. I literally get choked up and angry thinking about it.

But one day help came and your hero animal control officer walked you out of there.

Now you live at Callie’s Place where your mom is always stumbling around saying this needs this, we need to do that, always wanting to do better for us and the others and all you can think is that you are loved, cared for and your world is so big now that you must explore it and the little details can wait. Then you see her cry about your bad leg because she says it still hurts her heart and all you can think is let’s go to the woods and I will show you that I can run and then your heart won’t hurt. Mom and Dad couldn’t fix my leg but they fixed our minds and our hearts and that’s more than good enough.

When will these humans learn that all we have is now? (And dinner time but that’s after the walk. )
