A good friend and very accomplished breeder once told me, "Every year, there is triumph and tragedy." This one is a bit of both. Not the result I was hoping for, but still better than previous years.
If you've been following this page for a while, you may recall my struggles producing boas. If there's one thing I have been consistent with, it's producing stillborn and slugs. I don't have many adults, so I've basically had one crack per year over the last few, and last year, I finally produced a live baby boa..one Pearl Island. I was confident the tweak I made this year would yield a healthy litter. I'm not sure if it has to do with the age of the animals, something else with this particular pair, my strategy/husbandry, or maybe just how things go sometimes. The female Hog Island Boa who dropped this litter, and the sire also, are now 14 years old and it's her 3rd reproductive event. I'm definitely very happy to have some baby Hog Island Boas for the first time, and it's the best boa litter I've had so far, but still lots of room to improve. Another step, albeit smaller than I wanted to see. Keep 'er movin..

This is a long-term project and a clutch I'm absolutely over the moon about. One I've never shared and purely sentimental in value. Weld Co. CO milksnakes (gentilis)! I've learned a lot from these animals..their unique feeding habits, extreme seasonality, and how to manage that first in CO and now in FL for the past few years. I wasn't sure I'd ever get them to go, and I was worried that if I didn't, I might never have the opportunity to restart this project. It's also special because it's the 2nd micro locality colubrid project from a state I've lived in. FL first and now CO. The male is a unique high black and white, and the female is the higher orange. Both are very nice examples. These small milks start out more red and go orange with age. 😍

Yearling ivory heading to her new home tonight. I remember being introduced to bloods in person at Pro Exotics. That was the first time I saw an adult, and I can recall very clearly being totally amazed at an adult ivory. That was one of the animals that really got me interested in bloods.

I have always admired Kevin Marter and Kara Norris for the years and work they put into selectively breeding for fire engine, heavily-saturated red bloods. It takes real commitment and patience to do what they've done.

This isn't at their level, but this is the result of my first selectively bred red pairing. The sire is a 75% Bangka Island blood redhead and the dam is a 2015 first timer from Nick Bottini. I'm pleased with the reds and yellows right out of the egg. It will be fun watching how these color up.

I've been seeing a lot of morelia clutch posts. It's a very exciting time of year! Nothing here..yet. I'm hoping to have some start dropping next month. In the meantime, I have a clutch of bloods hatching I'm very excited about. A red/no morph project. The first few out are looking very nice. More to come..

It's been awhile since I showed one of these guys..Crawl Cay Boa. For those who aren't familiar, this is a relatively rare, dwarf race of boas hailing from Crawl Cay, a small island off the coast of Belize.

I've been staring at my green tree pythons, carpets and other species for a long time but had never seen caudal luring until last night. Right when the pink hit the floor, he could tell there was food present but didn't locate it and luckily was still doing it after I ran and grabbed my phone to record. Not the greatest video work but this was overhead on my tippy toes.
