🖤NOW we have a newly diagnosed FIP kitty.....STALLONE. Stallone recently returned to our rescue after we learned he had been exhibitting very concerning symptoms for some time, which began shortly after his adoption. We and the adopters decided it was in his best interest to return him to the rescue.....so we arranged for him to come back to us and immediately took him to the vet for assessment to try to find the cause of his issues. His bloodwork pointed to the dreaded FIP.
He is almost 1 year old, but only weighs 4.8 lbs. He should be about double that. He had experienced muscle mass deterioration particularly in his back end. Difficulty maintaining his balance, which makes walking, eating and pottying difficult. Decreased appetite. After testing and ruling out Feline leukemia/FIV....we ran additional bloodwork and it pointed to a condition known as Feline Infectious Peritonitis or FIP. His particular form is considered "Neuro".
🩵Until only a few years ago, this disease was uncurable and always fatal. THAT HAS ALL CHANGED!! There is a very successful cure, and has been widely treated now in the U.K. and Australia for several years. Here in the U.S., due in part to a very bloated and slow FDA process, it is more difficult to obtain, but not impossible. We successfully treated and CURED our first FIP case last year....BRUCE. And we hope to always be able to treat any of our rescue cats who may need this life-saving cure now and in the future. Fortunately it is relatively rare.
It's a very intensive, and expensive treatment. It involves giving the kitty a specific injection every single day for 84 days, at the exact time. That is no small commitment for any foster or owner. It takes planning, training and also the help of a backup team who can give
Here is 7 mins of FOSTERing bliss ❤️
Thank you Theresa M. and Tessa for fostering this pregnant Mama for the last 3-4 weeks, and her eventual kittens until their transport could arrive.
Fostering has many moments.....Happy, sad, fun, frustrating, scary, immense relief, highs, lows, hard work, heartbreak....and oftentimes sheer joy and laughter.
Here is a moment of joy, with a tad of bittersweetness.....simply because Mama BLONDI and her nuggets are getting ready to leave their foster Mom and go on to their next rescue, who will find them the best families. We were only a temporary rest stop for them until their rescue transport could arrive. And we are so glad that we could be that for them. To get them out of the overcrowded city and county shelters, where some never make it back out, and get them into a safe foster home so she didn't have her babies in a small, steel cage, late at night when no one was around to help her if something went wrong.
BLONDI and her trio are heading for much brighter futures than where we first met them, when a shelter called us about an extremely pregnant cat who had been surrendered.
**They are not available for local adoption so please do not inquire. They are heading to their receiving rescue in FL in a few hours.

DARLA, another of our longtimers is beautiful, people-sweet and seems to be doing ok with these pooches at her foster home at close range. This is a good way to do introductions.....kitty stays safe and still has a dog-free zone to retreat to but can get accustomed to the sounds, smells & sight of the dogs. She has not been fond of other cats so this is good to see she might instead adapt to cat-friendly dogs.
Please ⚠️TEXT⚠️ (not call) 678-776-5409 if you'd like to meet her. She is being fostered only 15 mins from Oxford Petsmart.

My 4 "construction site" bottle babies who tried multiple times to die on me since we took the first one in on Mothers Day weekend. One even had a seizure soon after intake and we thought we would lose her that night. By miracle and staying up with her to do overnight critical care, she came through it. They went to FL with me and back and are now all doing so much better, and all but one stubborn Momma's Boy are now on canned food. Workers at the construction site kept finding kittens throughout that first week....one was in a mud puddle, 2 were in an engine covered in hydraulic fluid, and another was in the treads of a big track loader. A construction site is a terribly dangerous place for cats & kittens.
This is how we use donated Pack N Plays (see previous post for info on donating these)...they are great for the younger age groups. We secure a blanket to the top using large binder clips and clamps. This won't hold them forever, mine will outgrow it soon. But it's great for now. I line the bottom with a washable mattress pad made just the right size for these pens and swap it out for a clean one if they soil or wet it. They are all finally using their starter litterbox pretty well now so mostly every morning it's just cleaning up the mess they make kicking up litter or spilling food/water during tiny kitten wrestling matches lol.
I transfer them to a cheap, tall moving box from Home Depot while I clean their baby pen each morning and prepare their breakfast. Those boxes also make good emergency pens when you don't have an alternative for a few days, you can put a soft blanket & heating pad in it and disposable potty pad on top that can be easily tossed & replaced if they tinkle or poo. Helps your blanket last longer between washes and the babies stay cleaner. Just fold the box flaps straight up and tape them together at the corners to make it as tall as it can be so they can't jump out when they're little.

Injured dog in Heflin, I-20 exit 205 Chevron. Late Friday afternoon 10/14. Cleburne Co. and the city of Heflin effectively no longer have any animal control to help this dog.
If anyone knows owner please notify them immediately the dog needs medical attention and will likely get hit so close to highway 46 and also right next to an interstate. That may be how his leg became injured in the first place.
If anyone has a dog-sized trap we can attempt to use to catch him please COMMENT BELOW. He is roughly the size of a Border Collie. I don't know how long he will remain there, but I only live about 6 mins away.
Thank You
