Funny thing happened last night. I left a video game running on the Xbox while I had to attend to Ruby's dire need to be combed with the glove. Suddenly there was a wolf howl from the game! Ruby got very concerned where that came from. Abby, meanwhile, was sitting by the gate and didn't seem to care. The wolf howled again and Ruby started to think it was Abby doing it, but she was just sitting there. Not sure if Ruby still thinks Abby was howling like a wolf. :)

Funny thing happened recently. One night I noticed Ruby coming up the stairs a bit awkwardly. I discovered she somehow managed to get a kick stick stuck on her thumb claw. She couldn't get it off so I guess she just succumbed to living with it. She looked quite funny walking around with the attached kick stick. Linda and I were trying to help, but of course, she didn't trust us and went under the bed. After making it much harder to help, we did manage to free her from the kick stick.

The latest in kitty cat technology! They don't so much play with it, but they keep a close eye on it.

Every day when it is time for Abby's evening shift Ruby sends a glare towards the closed door Abby is behind, on her way up from playing with me in the basement to get treats before being locked up in the other bedroom. (Sorry about the picture quality but I only have a few seconds to catch her glare while we're walking upstairs)

The cats both have a day shift and an evening shift while we're awake. It's fairly equal.

Abby when being released usually makes a run out of her bedroom to take a quick look and reassure herself that Ruby's door is closed, signaling that Ruby isn't hiding anywhere else in the house, before heading down to the basement where she loves to play.

The system works most of the time. Every once in a while one of the cats will have a day when they get restless and wants out before schedule. Especially Abby tends to get restless and tries meowing to get out ahead of schedule while Ruby who is older can nap longer unless something happening outside disturbs her sleep.

But mostly they both accept that this is how things are and obediently leads the way to their separate bedrooms to get rewarded with the delivery of food (Abby) or treats (Ruby) as they are locked up.

It never seems to occur to either of them that if they would just stop hissing, growling at and attacking each other they could both run around the house freely all the time. We're not asking them to be best friends and snuggle. We just want them to at least be somewhat polite to each other.
