While @carlosprophoto was taking photos by the lake, we were finding tree stumps, logs and rocks to play #traininggames and do #caninefitness work with. Had so much fun with Kempie being creative with what was out there. Here she stepped up onto a small stump and we were practicing keeping front paws up while moving back legs in a circle around the stump. @seattlettouch

Working on #husbandryonhikes with Kempie. Work with the #minidonkey at #theranchkpct and @ken_ramirez_kpct helped us get stronger with her #stationingbehavior. She stays in place as I’m able to touch her, she offers her hind leg for inspection and as I walk all the way around her. Yay kempie! Coaching from @laura.monaco.torelli has been great too to help us prep for #adequaninjections. #forcefreetraining #positivereinforcementtraining #cooperativecare #kpcttrainingchallenge
I taught one of my clients the “Vito game” from @bobbie.lyons #kpa webinar and they did such a great job in just a week of practice! Look at mr Teddy go! The people and the dog love the game. Teddy reacts on leash neighborhood walks to other dogs so it’s great for them to have some games to play at home to exercise Teddy’s body and mind. #kpcttrainingchallenge #kpactp #traininggames #canineenrichment
I posted this a few weeks ago as a reel but it got cut off & the last part was a key piece of what I was practicing, which was my own skill of tenting and poking the needle into a towel & injecting the fluid. It was kind of cute because Kempie came and gave a #chinrest onto the stool while I practiced injecting the towel. #cooperativecaretraining #forcefree #positivereinforcementdogtraining #adequan #kpactp #kpcttrainingchallenge
Practicing a short session of #cooperativecare at the beach, preparing Kempie for #adequanshots down the line. Here We do a few #chinrest while she’s #stationing next to me, and I tent her skin in the area I’ll be tenting it for the shots. Under guidance from the amazing @laura.monaco.torelli I’m working to build fluency with different aspects of the procedure in a variety of environments & different body positions (hers and mine).

#accessibility Tan female dog wearing a purple #balanceharness and brown leather #pacocollar and Asian woman with dark hair stand on the beach with water visible in the background. Woman moves her right hand under dog’s head and says “chin”. The dog rests her chin in the woman’s hand for a second. Woman reaches her right hand into her treat pouch at her waist and feeds dog a treat to her mouth. In the second repetition, dog places chin into woman’s right hand and woman touches the nape of dog’s neck between her harness and collar briefly and squeezes the skin lightly, then reaches into treat pouch and feeds dog again. In the third repetition, dog places chin into woman’s right hand and woman squats down next to dog and uses left hand to touch the nape of dog’s neck between her harness and collar briefly and squeezes the skin lightly, then reaches into treat pouch with her right hand and feeds dog again. Woman reaches into treat pouch again and feeds a few treats with both hands to the dog’s mouth, then brushes off her hands and shows the dog her empty hands and says “all done”.
Here I’m working with Kempie on training to prep for getting Adequan shots - I’m still working out some details in the best way to setup, but I’m practicing a #chinrest and tenting her skin, picking up the syringe (no needle) & pretending to stick her, then she gets her breakfast. Trying to #condition good feelings associated with the procedure because breakfast is a well established very happy ritual for her. Sarah Owings’ #trustcode course informed some of my planning on this along with things I’ve learned by following @laura.monaco.torelli amazing #cooperativecare work. #positivereinforcementdogtraining #forcefreetraining #kpactp #kpcttrainingchallenge
Working with Katsu on scratching the scratch board. He got a bit frustrated on the 2nd rep where he barked at me once! It took a lot to get us to this step- at first he used to not offer any behaviors with his paws, mostly his nose. He doesn’t like having his paws handled at all, so as we are slowly working on that, we’re trying to keep his nails a little shorter using the scratch board. #positivereinforcementdogtraining #forcefreetraining #kpcttrainingchallenge #kpactp #cooperativecare
My client @uglycupcakes practicing #muzzletraining with Katsu starting to put his nose into the muzzle while @verdinmq tends to Akina in the crate! #positivereinforcementdogtraining #forcefreedogtraining #kpactp #kpcttrainingchallenge
Practicing some #muzzletraining on our morning #hike. We do a few repetitions of putting her head into the #muzzle, toss a treat away to reset, then strap it on and feed through muzzle with a squeeze tube with #goatyogurt - she loves yogurt. Trying to build #duration and doing some #foundationbehaviors like #recall and #nosetarget with the muzzle on. #kpactp #kpcttrainingchallenge #forcefreetraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining
A little taste of a hike with Ms Curious Georgie. I adore this lil pup- she is so fun, wiggly, and full of energy. She loves looking for birds, and loves zooming around off trail. I reinforce her check-ins with food or play and practice #recall followed by sending her back to zoom away. I love her zippy happy returns to me. today she got hundreds of little burrs tangled in her beautiful long hair, especially her ears! I literally spent an hour getting them out with the aid of scissors and a brush. She was very patient but I threaten to shave her next time! @marlzzzzzzz @pblandori your naughty lil girl! #positivereinforcementtraining #forcefreedogtrainer #sniffari #cockerspanielsofinstagram #englishcockerspaniel
Haven’t posted many client vids lately but finally doing it. Here we’re working with lil duck on #capturingattention and #whiplashturn from Leslie McDevitt’s #controlunleashed #patterngames. Duck was in a new environment and did great with her mom. #kpactp #positivereinforcementdogtraining #kpcttrainingchallenge #foundationtraining #forcefreetraining
Tonight was a night to #spoilmydog My girl got some homemade strawberry ice cream. I haven’t made ice cream in years because it’s a royal pain in the ass but I decided to make this because the farmers market strawberries have been so good, and this is pretty delicious! I wanted to share with Kempie because we’ve been through a lot lately. Our dogs don’t live long, it’s hard not to want to spoil them every second.
Fun to see Katsu and Akina’s people working with their pups at the same time - practicing going to their bed/mat with the appropriate target shape and then releasing, while the other dog is working on the same thing. Eventually it would be nice to work up to one person being able to do this, building duration on the mat with the dog who isn’t released, mats closer together etc. but I think this is a nice start! Plus there were distractions as we were in a public place. #shibainu #positivereinforcementtraining #forcefreedogtrainer #kpactp #kpcttrainingchallenge
@nilliebanana got some freedom today on the trail- we had a nice outing! @catieeliza your girl was great! #canineenrichment #decompressionwalk #decompressionhike #enrichmentouting #forcefreetraining
#foxtailmasktraining with @outfoxfordogs mask. I posted some videos a few weeks ago from later steps in the training process and realized I never posted the earlier steps! This is an earlier training session (not the first one) & I repeated this step for at least 8-10 short training sessions. This was our third session introducing the mask.
- for a dog suspicious of items that you might use to groom, put on their body, etc you might even start with “neutral” objects such as a rolled down pillowcase or napkin and just form a “bowl” in your hand to put the food into, then progress to this step.
- you might add a step in of using a small container or cup with the food inside to have them stick their head into that to eat.
- I gradually roll the mask up so she has to stick her snout in a bit more and get used to the feel.

Adding distractions to the #mattraining for Katsu. His sis Akina was anxious for her turn training and let out a few yelps, but he did a good job staying on the mat while I twirled around in the office chair and went to reinforce Akina in the crate! #positivereinforcement #positivereinforcementdogtraining for the win! #shibainu #shibainupuppy #forcefreetraining
Using a @hightailhikes hands free leash in the park while working on #leaveit training with Katsu. The park was quiet and the other end is secured around a tree for safety. Katsu was very interested in these French fries on the ground when we got to the park so I picked some up to use in working on leave it using #positivereinforcement. The line was long enough that he could have gotten the French fries if he wanted to but we’ve worked on this in easier environments with easier things and I felt he was set up for success. #hthphotocontest @uglycupcakes
#foxtailmasktraining for Georgie. This is probably about 25 -30 short training sessions in.
- I started with getting her excited to eat from the mask then gradually rolling it up so she had to stick her head in further. (See previous videos).
- I’m trying to build duration here while assessing her body language and not pushing her to the point where she tries to pull it off herself (which she did once near the end - my mistake).
- I’m also trying to get her used to moving around with it on and the feel of it tightening up around her neck.
- Georgie is normally wiggly and moves around a lot when she’s feeling good so that’s the ideal body language I’m aiming for though there were a few moments where she got still and stiffer which were my training errors.

Working with Katsu on putting his head in the #comeofshame. Small approximations, starting with the cone open then gradually closing it, resetting treats away so he could choose if he wanted to come back. #cooperativecare #forcefreedogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining #shibainu #shibainupuppy #kpcttrainingchallenge @uglycupcakes @ken_ramirez_kpct
#foxtails are coming folks. I’m building the behavior of Georgie putting her head into the #foxtailmask - this is a number of training sessions after my last post. She’s still wiggly and loose and running to stick her head in. I’m working on getting her used to me putting my hand into the mask and adding food to build a little duration and get her used to a hand coming into the mask. Preview for next sessions- I started working on this behavior in other locations outside as well. With this girl the hardest part will be building duration once the food is eaten. @ken_ramirez_kpct #kpcttrainingchallenge #coopertivecare #cockerspaniel #positivereinforcementdogtraining #forcefreetraining #forcefreetrainer
