AWA was founded in 1948 by a small group of community activists who wanted to address and help the issue of unwanted pets in our community. In our adoption program, we have dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. We also have a pet clinic that allows us to further our mission to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare to pets in our community. You can

Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡

Today and always, we are incredibly grateful for our amazing community — our volunteers, adopters, fosters, donors, and everyone who supports the animals in our care. Your kindness changes lives.

Our shelter and clinic will be closed today for the holiday, but we’ll reopen tomorrow with full hearts (and hopefully full bellies!).

This week, our biggest wish is for homes for our Length of Stay animals — the pets who have been waiting far longer than they deserve.

They greet us with wagging tails and gentle purrs every day, even after months of watching others get adopted before them.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, please consider one of our long-stay animals. They have so much love to give and are so ready for a home of their own.
