AWA was founded in 1948 by a small group of community activists who wanted to address and help the issue of unwanted pets in our community. In our adoption program, we have dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. We also have a pet clinic that allows us to further our mission to provide affordable, high-quality healthcare to pets in our community. You can

Join AWA’s Animal Academy for hands-on lessons that bring the science of animals to life. Our upcoming Animal Behavior sessions will teach students how animals communicate, why they act the way they do, and how behavior helps them stay safe, socialize, and thrive.

This MLK Day, we honor a legacy of service with hands-on kindness.
On Sunday, 1/19 from 12–4 pm, volunteers will fill AWA with creativity and care, crafting enrichment toys, treats, snuffle mats, braided dog toys, and more to brighten the days of our shelter animals.

Dr. King reminded us that life’s most persistent question is, “What are you doing for others?”
