Reverse Sneezing - what’s with that? 🤧🐶
It sounds so scary and it looks like it stresses your dog out. I have tried the “hold your hand over your dog’s nose for 3 seconds and the “try to get your dog to drink”… neither of those have worked.
The one thing that has worked quickly and efficiently is getting Finny to lick a little yogurt or peanut butter, just a little bit and he stops right away!

Keep them cool
Keep your pets indoors with air conditioning or fans on hot days, and draw shades or curtains to keep sunlight out. You can also provide a cool, shaded area for them to relax in, like a kiddie pool filled with water.

Limit outdoor time
Avoid taking your pets outside during the hottest parts of the day, usually between 10 AM and 4 PM. If you do go outside, keep walks and playtime to the cooler mornings or evenings, and take frequent breaks for bathroom breaks.

Provide water
Make sure your pets have access to fresh, clean water at all times. You can try adding ice cubes to their bowl to keep it cooler, or encourage them to drink more by using a fountain.

Use cooling products
Consider using cooling mats, vests, or body wraps that you can soak in cool water to keep your pets from overheating. You can also brush your pets, but avoid shaving them, as excess fur can trap heat.

Watch for signs
Some signs of heatstroke include heavy panting, glazed eyes, rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, lack of coordination, profuse salivation, vomiting, a deep red or purple tongue, seizure, and unconsciousness. If you see any of these signs, immediately remove your pet from the hot environment and take them to the nearest veterinarian. A vet can safely cool your pet, provide hydration, and prescribe medication if needed.

Here are a few more:
If you have to go somewhere you can’t take your dog, leave your dog safe at home in the a/c.
If you own Siberian Husky or double coated dog, do not ever shave them unless it’s for medical reasons.
If you see a dog left in a car that isn’t running, even if the windows are cracked, call 911.
Keep walks short. Before 8am and after 8pm.

MyaJune, Meeko and Finny are all rescued dogs. MyaJune was our first back in 2009. She started it all and gave us a heart for rescuing and volunteering to help a challenging breed. She started my quest for improving canine nutrition in our home and helping others. She was the reason we have met so many life long friends who are like-minded and have a passion for rescue. It’s the beginning of tick season and poor Finny was attacked on our walk. He must have stepped near a nest. I pulled 7 American Dog Ticks off of him right after he walked near some tall grass. He didn’t even step in it so keep your eyes open and always “tick check” your dogs. Even with our dogs on preventative, there is a chance they can still contract lime disease.
