RUA is off to Doug Ray's North Dakota Summer Camp.
Hall of Fame trainer Harold Ray led her to her temporary GA kennel. Aimee then gave me a tour of the Smith Setter Plantation Lodge, wall-papered with John Donaldson art depicting Hall of fame and legendary Smith-line Setters, trophies, and photos.
I left gob-smacked with seven hours of windshield time to reflect on other Smith-line setters that were dear to me - especially those Dave Pomfret handled during our Blandfied Plantation guiding days.
There's an unfair advantage for dogs who summer on the northern prairie. If all things were fair, RUA would be at Dave's Camp and I'd be there to help out.
I am beyond grateful she will be introduced to the summer prairie by Doug's most capable hands.

Another Virginia woodcock season has passed. We have taken our fair share and are grateful. Still we question the . woodcock season. It starts too early and stops at a split season at it’s most productive. The latter season dwindles. I have a decade in it and a few miffed dogs happy to show the biologists around their thickets.

LUNA prefers wild coveys over water breaks. We stumbled into a 20+ covey rise while conditioning today. I didn’t document the first rise. This is the largest gang of wild birds we’ve ever seen on the farm.
