Hiking With Bodhi and Ziggy

Ran into 3 coyotes on our morning walk. They ran away pretty quick and headed back through the property. Love seeing the wildlife that are frequent visitors here.

Walked down to fill up the water and missed three coyotes by about two minutes this morning. I knew something was ahead of us, the peacocks alerted and Bodhi had his nose to the ground :-)

Bodhi and Lacy hanging out together :-) When Lacy was a baby and was adopted she wasn’t around other goats so she played with dogs and people. Then I brought her to this property and she met four goats for the first time. It took quite a while, but they all became her family. Last month, the last of her goat family passed away. She has been doing great as the only goat here and quickly became friendly with Bodhi again :-) She used to head butt him when she was with her pack :-P

Walking Bodhi (no leash or vest on) a few minutes ago and I hear a peacock honk, so I stop Bodhi thinking that a coyote is about to come through. It did, but it came from the front yard and MUCH closer to us than expected. Bodhi wanted to chase it, but that’s a NO lol

This morning Bodhi and I walked down the lower path on the property to grab a media card from one of the wildlife cameras. I found a possum on it from 1am this morning, but that was it. About 10 minutes later I was walking the lower path again to put the media card back in the camera when I heard crows making a lot of noise and heard a couple of honks from the peacocks. I pulled out my phone and started the video just as this white female peacock encountered a bobcat and took flight towards us! She ended up high in a tree above me. I turned around to give the bobcat space (it ran off), then I came back about 5 minutes later from the upper driveway (so I was above the path). I put the card back in the camera and checked the other two cameras. They both failed to trigger. So disappointing since the bobcat was sitting right in front of the cameras. Time to replace them with better quality cameras.

Can you guess what my favorite time of year is around here? It's Springtime! With babies hatching all around, it gets a bit chaotic, but I love every moment of it! Lots of little peachicks learning about life from day one! And Bodhi is right in the middle of it all, trying to protect them :-) So you can probably guess what my second children's book about the Wild Peacock Ranch is about :-P It was just published this morning!

My daughters mini Jersey (cow) had a calf last weekend and Bodhi is obsessed with it. Nothing but kisses :-) Gypsy (mom) is very protective but she knows Bodhi won’t hurt the baby :-)

We were just getting ready to walk through the field when I looked up and there were two coyotes directly in front of us and so I stopped and we turned to go back home and saw that there were three coyotes and they came out ahead of us. We haven’t seen too many coyotes coming through the property lately, maybe because it’s mating season and there are pups to be taken care of. So it was nice to run into these three.

Just some of their birthdays over the years, including a photo at Arches that I took on the day they were born. I had no idea at that moment that a dog would be coming into my life six weeks later.

Landing gear down, flaps engaged 🙂 Every morning the peacocks fly back down to the ground from the perches high up in the pine trees. Can peacocks fly? Yes! But flying takes a lot of effort, especially with a long and heavy tail. They prefer to glide :-) Trying to get a photo of them mid-flight in the early morning without a lot of light is a little challenging :-P

Sorry about the blurry video (shot thru the windshield) but I was just getting ready to leave the property when I saw a coyote run right past the goats. So I stopped and waited knowing that there was probably more coming through. And sure enough two more came across the front yard right next to the goats, and just ignored them :-P

Bodhi and I just walked down to check the mail and then decided to go for a quick walk in the field, Bodhi always runs up the hill ahead of m, but this time I saw a rattlesnake just in time to pull him back from it! This video was a few minutes after I moved him farther back.
