Our beautiful welsh pony Daisy is officially going to retire this fall. She has been the most fabulous partner to teach so many young pony riders on the start of their riding journey. A perfect mixture of patience & moxie! Her show name is "on Cloud Nine" because she always made her kids feel that way! This was her last show in May. If you have any special Daisy memories or even better pictures! Please post them below!

15/07/2024

In terms of jumping equitation, a stable lower leg creates the base that allows a rider to remain in a balanced posture during the phases of the jump.
In so many instances we see that riders have lower legs that swing all over the place, especially back toward the hips of the horse, and this weakness in fundamental position tends to topple the rider forward and down toward—or onto---the neck of the horse.
But once the rider has learned how to keep those lower legs “right there” just behind the girth, then the rider can close the angles, hips back, arms forward, and be able to stay centered.
Shorten the stirrups perhaps, learn how it feels to NOT pinch with the knees, but instead to create a contact lower down on the leg, actually quite low near the Achilles tendon, that you can rely upon to stay put while the rest of your body opens, closes, reopens, through the various phases of the jump.
TAME those lower legs to “sit—stay” and so many of your jumping woes will vanish. Leave them free to wander, though, and don’t be surprised if the rest of your body gets flailed around by the torque and activity of the horse’s jumping effort.
I used to have incorrect and unstable lower legs, but I watched better riders whose legs remained in place, copied them as best I could, and figured it out, and so can you if you care enough to work it out.
It's not an accident or a coincidence that these photos show a uniform lower leg position. I made it habit through tons of practice until it became the new normal.

They are never just RIDING SCHOOL PONIES❤️🐴

One day you may move onto bigger, fancier horses, but never forget the school horse who made you, as without them, you wouldn’t be able to ride anything at all.

The patient soul that tolerated your bouncing while you figured out how to sit the trot.

The kind mare that didn’t walk off when you stumbled up the mounting block, trying to get your foot in the stirrup.

The sweet gelding that picked up the trot even though your body was telling him to do the exact opposite.

The saintly angel that never spooked, which was a dam good thing because your balance was precarious at best.

Too often we forget where we came from. We move on to the next chapter in our lives and say, “Oh my gosh, I’m learning so much! I’m going so far! I could never do this kind of thing on that old school horse!”

But infact you could, you were just not ready to do all these things back then.

But that school horse gave you the confidence to move forward. That school horse took care of you in all respects and allowed you to take the time you needed to find your way. You couldn’t have become the rider you are today without that riding school horse, always remember to love them unconditionally for our riding school horses are what help start your dream, make dreams come true and get you ready for those bigger dreams 🐴
