I have begun to work on a series of paintings of animals found within Scotland's landscape and patterns inspired by the tartans of Clans and other entities in those areas they're commonly found in.

This is the first of the series, entitled "Guga". The tartan-inspired pattern is reminiscent of that of Clan MacLeod of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

The term "Guga" refers to the dish consisting of salted gannet. The Guga Hunters of Ness were given special dispensation by the UK government in 1954 to be the only people allowed to hunt this protected sea bird. No more than 10 men may go out to the island of Sula Sgier for two weeks to catch these birds, and their quota is to catch no more than 2000 per year.

The Guga Hunt is unique to the Isle of Lewis and is deeply woven into the culture of their island way of life. Due to the recent outbreaks of bird flu across the British Isles, it is possible we have seen the last of the hunt as the bird population struggles to recover.

Hello everyone. I hope that you're all well and enjoying the autumn colours.

I am here today to let you know that I am currently open for my winter commissions! If you use the code 'HAPPYPAWS' you can get 10% off of my pet portrait commissions. In this time of economic difficulty I have also frozen my prices. So there is no better time to commission a portrait for yourself or a loved one for Christmas, a birthday, or for any occasion really!

If you aren't currently in a position where you will want to commission a painting, there is still a lot you can do to help support me as a small business owner. Liking my posts, commenting and sharing all does so much to help my work to be noticed and to reach a wider audience. So thank you for being here and supporting me!

Please message me if you have any questions at all.

Yours, Christina!
