This week I took put physical and mental distance between me and the screen. Most of you know I’ve been working hard to generate quality educational content on my IG/FB page Dr. Nell the Senior Pet Vet

It’s easy to let hours slip by when working online. I’ve found physically removing myself from the possibility of being digitally connected is the most effective restoration tactic for me.

My husband and I knocked out 11 miles and 4500 vertical feet to spend the night on the outskirts of an alpine meadow overlooking glacial valleys and looking up at remaining glaciers … we had it all to ourselves snd the only noise came from the waterfalls and rockslides we could see and hear cascading from Mt. Hood’s upper slopes.

What is your pet’s FAVORITE active thing to do ?... Gunner is licking his chops to go swimming once the water calms down and the level is right. In the “off” season his favorite thing is to chase the ball! And, he’s even good at giving it back! ❤️ Good boy Gunner! 🐾🐾🙌🙌

Hello Friends! I need YOUR HELP with a decision... I’m going to create a page specifically focused on senior pets and their parents. I love all animals of all ages, but these guys need extra attention. I want the page to have a positive slogan that let’s people know I’m here to help, that much can be done to help their senior pet, that I understand what it’s like to care for a senior pet, and that senior pets are really special, experience joy in their way, and have a lot left to live! (That is a little too much for a slogan, which is why I need your help). Here are my current ideas, please LET ME KNOW in the COMMENTS which one you like BEST or feel free to submit an idea...
1. “Let’s Make Your Senior Pet’s Years Their Best Years!”
2. “Helping Senior Pets Live Their Best Life Every Day!”

People are often surprised that most rabbits and cats do really well for acupuncture! 🐱🐰One of the common questions is, “how big are the needles?” Well, the ones I use are pretty tiny and very slender. They are also coated so that they slide in easier, making it more comfortable for the smaller pet. I have to credit much of my success with these species, and with needling small feisty dogs, to these needles.

The blue portion is called the “handle” and the needle portion is beneath it...it is shorter than the diameter of a penny (15 mm to be exact) and we (vet acupuncturists) don’t put the needle all the way in. It just needs to hit the point, which in small species, is quite close to the surface!

Needle size and type are important - it’s just another detail we consider when caring for our patients and working toward their best life! —Dr. Nell

Have you worried over your pet? Have they made you laugh and brought you joy? Have you made THEM eat their healthy food before they get their treats? Do you clean up after them? Have you been proud of your pet’s behavior in public...and other times embarrassed? Do you help them get along with others and teach them to share? Have you made a point and maybe even sacrifices to give them their best life? Do you hug them, nurture and care for them even when they drive you crazy? If so, then you’re a MOM!

I took the past 2 weeks off...really off...from everything...including social media...so that I could play in the warm sun, sand, and water on the Beautiful Big Island, Hawaii...and savor every moment.

❤️I spent time with loved ones - my husband, my mom and my mom-in-law.

🐬I swam with dolphins, sea turtles, and many other creatures in THEIR natural environment, respecting their space while enjoying their presence. (That is my tiny head amid a pod of dolphins!)

🌺I learned more about Hawaiian culture, embraced the “Aloha” spirit and brought it back with me.

Now, I’m refreshed and ready to to return to my regularly scheduled program and providing meaningful content for vets and pet parents around the world.

Looking forward to reconnecting this week! —🐾🤝😀Dr. Nell
