Tinkerbell the Three-Legged Chihuahua My name is Tinkerbell the Three-Legged Chihuahua. This is my story! Birthday: Jan 31
4.3 pounds, white w/ orange-ish stripe on my back.

Missing my rear left leg and much of my hair.

So, my story according to my mommy:
Abandoned as a puppy on a snowy mountain side road in Valencia County, New Mexico, Tinkerbell was initially mistaken as a patch of snow. It was not until a curious woman decided to double check this patch of snow that she discovered that, in fact, it was a little white chihuahua barely alive, covered in fleas, and a broken rear left leg. She was rushed to a shelter, where she was going to be euthanized. Lucky for her, the woman that found her contacted a local Albuquerque chihuahua rescue, called Enchantment Chihuahuas, who quickly took action to get her and tend to her. Her leg (which was thought to have been broken since she was 6 months old; she was 2 at her rescue) was far too damaged to be saved, thus had to be amputated. The fleas did so much damage to her skin that she is almost permanently bald (except for her head, back, and legs), and many of her teeth had to be removed due to infections. MAY BE GRAPHIC FOR SOME:

After all this, she was fostered back to health by a member of the chihuahua group until a permanent home could be found for her. In August of 2011, Tinker was adopted into her current home through Enchantment Chihuahuas and PetSmart Charities. With the help of all those involved, she now lives a happy and fulfilling life. Only she knows the truth of the events to led up to her rescue, but has since put that life behind her in order to face the constant and exciting adventures of the future. She now lives with 4 humans, 2 chihuahua/pug mixed dogs and 3 cats in Tucson, Arizona. Tinkerbell is a tribute to the efforts made by people everyday to ensure animals (big, small, wild, domesticated) have fulfilling lives, are treated with love and respect, and allow their voices and stories to be heard. Animals cannot speak for themselves, so it is up to us to speak for them. Featured in High Desert Dog magazine.
