Although they may not express their emotions quite like humans, pets can feel it all!
The most tragic instance is when they absorb the emotions, especially grief, of their pet parents. Helping them through these stressful times first begins as a responsibility we must accept as part of the privilege of bringing an animal into our homes. Secondly, if we help balance our own emotional roller coasters, the animals will then benefit both emotionally and physically.

I love Staphysagria for kitty cats who have had just about ENOUGH of the OTHER cat, the DOG or being at the VET'S! They don't understand how you could be so inconsiderate or how the dog could be so insulting! HA!

It's not the remedy I use post-spaying (that's Bellis perenis), but is a remedy of choice for any surgery where an incision or a laceration is painful. The pain relief should be very, very quick.

Don't get me wrong, it's not just great for cats! Any human with this emotional stress or physical injury can experience great benefits from taking Staphysagria.

We've all been there, your dog ate something and how you need to decide if you need to rush to the vet, watch them to see what happens, or just fret!

Nux, as it is affectionately called, is a brilliant pet homeopathic remedy for all sorts of excesses, including over-eating, (like Trixie in my linked blog below); over-indulging the wrong foods; over-drugging (pharmaceuticals, recreational); over-stressing in high anxiety animals; over-working in training or working dogs; over, over, over...

You get it - it's the 'over-doing' remedy!

I have to say, I think Nux should be put in the water systems in the United States because we have a high percentage of our humans in the 'over-doing' state. Take out the lead and replace it with Nux!

Just kidding. But, seriously, who isn't over-stressed these days?

Canine Vaccine Hesitancy is the definition given by the authors of a recent study just made public in August of 2023. For me, it doesn’t only give information about the now coined syndrome, Canine Vaccine Hesitancy, but I worry it could be used as a fear-based angle to promote more vaccines for our dogs.

In a way it does make perfect sense there would be Canine Vaccine Hesitancy, since every dog I’ve ever polled absolutely has never given consent to be vaxxed! Unfortunately, however, their choices get overruled.

Sorry - I had to make fun of the new phrase!

This beautiful and delicate spring flower is perfect for the liver and pancreas.

Iris versicolor is very specific for the pancreas and pancreatitis. Even to the point that if you are sure your dog or cat is having another episode (you recognize their chronic symptoms) you can try this remedy a few times, say within about 3-4 hours to see if the symptoms subside.

On a long term basis you need to work with a homeopathic vet, but Iris can help the flow of bile throughout the liver, which always helps liver function, detoxification and digestion.

The first practitioner to conceptualize and synthesize the principals of homeopathy into a working system was German physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann.

Dr. Hahnemann established the preparation and use of the energetic medicine we use today, but the principals go as far back at least to Hippocrates in 400 B.C. In 1799, he was the first to identify the use of Belladonna to treat a young girl exhibiting the symptoms of what we would now refer to as scarlet fever. In the same household, he thought to treat another, asymptomatic child with Belladonna and it proved to prevent the spread the sibling’s scarlet fever.

As scarlet fever seemed to spread throughout Hahnemann’s home country of Germany, he found he could also treat his patients with Aconite. This remedy was an effective treatment between 1801 – 1808. He was flexible enough to see how the conditions changed and altered his remedy accordingly.

Today, we still use Belladonna and Aconite to treat fever.

Remember when your mom used to give you a horrible tasting tincture called Ipecac when you were starting to feel ill with very nondescript symptoms?

Okay, I'm dating myself, but back in the day the raw form of this syrup was used to help induce vomiting. Sort of the lay person's purgative to help get the bad juju out!

But, in homeopathic form it is such a wonderful remedy for acute nausea (think smacking lips, salivating, restlessness, lack of appetite) with vomiting.

And even more specific, it can be used for gastrointestinal symptoms ,as above, along with respiratory symptoms. Many flu symptoms fit into this category, as do many Parvo symptoms. And don't forget to try it for motion sickness!

Has homeopathy ever made a dent in an epidemic? YES, over and over again!

Remember polio?

Dr. Taylor Smith of Johannesburg, South Africa used a known homeopathic remedy, not a nosode, to prevent the spread of polio. He dosed 82 children and adults with the remedy Lathyrus sativus. His efforts resulted in ZERO polio contractions in the 82 people he treated. What is particularly remarkable is out of the 82, 12 came into direct contact with “polio” and still did not contract it.

In a similar case in the same era, Dr. A. H. Grimmer of Chicago, IL also used Lathyrus sativus as a polio preventative. He treated 5,000 young children and all of those children avoided contracting polio.

Dr. Francisco Eizayaga of Argentina dosed thousands of patients with Lathyrus sativus in 1957 to prevent polio. He used the same remedy to preventatively treat 40,000 patients in 1975. All of Dr. Eizayaga’s patients were spared contracting polio.

Non-descript and general feelings of malaise and early illness.

Ferrum phosphate is the one I grab when I am starting to get ill, have very diffuse symptoms, sore throat and fever.

Our animals can feel this state of affairs when they are fighting off a flu, cold, sore throat or any early illness.

You might not know what is hurting or going on, but if you're able to take their temperature, or can recognize a fever, and they aren't eating or seem to have pain on eating, it might be Ferrum phos.

The Ferrum remedies are made from iron and therefore are great for anemias of any sort including blood loss or parasites that attack the blood.

Whether they vocalize or hide quietly, fireworks and storms can be very stressful for many animals.

I have developed a deep aversion to fireworks. Not necessarily for my own sake, but for the anxiety it induces on our beloved pets, zoo animals, wildlife, and certain other small beings called children. Those booming sounds and dazzling lights aren’t in any way exciting, but instead are extremely stressful for our furry companions.

Some harmful effects from exposure to what must seem like a sonic boom to them can include hearing damage, PTSD, and toxicant exposures.

Ledum is the tried and true cure for tetanus, insect and snake bites, and any puncture wound.

Ledum palustre has been known for over 200 years to be part of a triad of remedies (with Arnica and Hypericum) to prevent tetanus. No tetanus injection needed! Just some soap, water and a few doses of homeopathy and tetanus is completely avoided!

And for those awful, but, all too common dog or cat fights, grab your Ledum, dose a few times and you'll see the healing occur before your eyes. No abscess ever shows!

For bee stings, grab the Ledum first. Only Apis mellifica if the wound looks like a swollen, red hive. Ledum is for the cause — the puncture.

To help clear any residual blood underneath the skin after an injury or blow (think "black eye"), Ledum will come to your rescue. Needless to say, it's a wonderful remedy to have on hand- and of course it's in my emergency kit!!

Called the Arnica of the Nerves!

Made from the same plant that is used in herbal preparation for depression, St. Johns wort, or Hypericum perforatum, if specific for nerve injures.

Any injury to a nerve and especially to the nerve ending of the tail bone, fingers, teeth.

Squashed toes, fingers and paws; whiplash or concussion after accidents; tooth extractions and puncture wounds (after Ledum) are just a few indications for this amazing remedy.

My personal use of Hypericum is for my herniated disc at L4-5 which if strained will quickly mend with this brilliant remedy. Think of it for dogs with the same condition, especially the long bodied dogs.

It's that time of year when outside temperatures are rising and the risk of heat stroke is high!

Swipe to see how rapidly the temperatures inside a parked car can rise. Even with the windows cracked open, the internal temperature can soar to dangerous levels within minutes, causing heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and even death.

Because dogs don't sweat (except on their feet), they can only pant to dissipate heat, which is not very efficient leaving them vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.

As much as they might want to be with you on your errands, the risk of harm is too great! Think about it - if you were wearing a parka, gloves, and a hat, sitting in a warming car in the summer, with little air to breathe......you do the math!
