Rambo's Journey To educate on the importance of advocating for animals in rescues to prevent them from being in shelters! Stop 'breeding' when thousands are Euthanized!

I was a Stray, emaciated, full of parasites and HW +, suffered a major head injury and was not expected to LIVE! I was hit by a car on July 4th 2013 and suffered a major head trauma that caused my skull to be exposed; along with many other wounds. On July 5th, I was taken into the vets office after a 'rescue' monitored me overnight. There; I underwent surgery for my exposed skull. I also tested po

sitive for Heartworms and was full of parasites. In the 48 hours after my surgery, my prognosis was not good. I had brain swelling, a 'floating' eye in which the vet indicated she had 'never seen anything like it'. All indications were I would lose permanent vision from that eye. Next, my liver enzymes were off the chart and I was extremely anemic. Within 96 hours and lots of prayers; this boy was walking on a leash, brain swelling coming down and passed a vision test!! I was at the hospital for just over a week prior to entering my foster home. Upon arrival, I was anorexic, still anemic, on 2 antibiotics, a liver pill and pain meds. I also required cleaning wounds and application of 'cream' to the affected areas; including an exposed skull; that has been ongoing for 9 months now. Since, my wounds are healing nicely, liver enzyme and anemia labs have checked out "perfect" and I have gained MANY pounds!! ;) I still has a long road ahead...my head wound is granulating, but surgery to close the wound is around the corner. I still feel afraid that I will miss a meal and am 'piggy'; even with a 'slow feeder bowl.' HEARTWORMS!! I made it through this too and it was not fun! 2 months of crate and little activity! This was another major physical and mental adjustment for me. I did it; I have surpassed ALL odds! I hope I can continue to do so!! I am a Fighter, a Survivor and a LOVER! :) Rambo was hit by a car on July 4th 2013. As you can see from his initial pictures, he suffered a major head trauma that caused his skull to be exposed; along with many other wounds to his body. The lady that hit Rambo helped get him in another good Samaritan's van who took him to her home and contacted a Rescue Group! Rambo was taken to an Animal Hospital first thing in the am on July 5th. He underwent surgery and lots of medical treatments. Rambo also tested positive for Heartworms and was full of parasites. In the 24 hours after his surgery, his prognosis was very "touch and go!" He had brain swelling, the vet indicated that his left eye was rolling around in his head like she had never seen before and he may never have vision from it. Next, Rambo's liver enzymes were off the chart and was extremely anemic. Within 48 hours, this boy was walking on a leash, brain swelling coming down and passed a vision test!! He was at the hospital for a week prior to entering his foster home. Upon arrival, he was anorexic, still anemic, on 2 antibiotics, a liver pill and pain meds. He also required cleaning wounds and application of 'cream' to the affected areas; including his 'skull.' Since that time, his wound is healing nicely, his liver enzyme and anemia labs checked out "perfect" at his last vet check, he has gained 10 pounds and is adjusting well to the "home life!" Rambo still has had a LONG journey! Rambo has participated in many rescue group opportunities and been featured in American Dog Magazine!
