~ ORDERS CLOSED ~

Hey everyone, apologies for this sudden announcement but with an influx of orders and my plate overloaded I’ve made the decision to close orders now.

I will be completing the current orders I’ve got in the promised turn around time (3 weeks) and then I am taking some time off to focus on family and other personal things for the remainder of my parental leave.

~ REDUCE REPAIR REUSE RECYCLE ~

Dodge got this Wool Coat almost 3 years ago and aside from a large rip in the front it still had plenty of life left in it!

His mum asked if I could repair the rip so she sent it back for a refurb! I totally replaced all of the fleece from the front and neck and widened it a bit while I was there. The strap needed to be lengthened too so he got a new strap and velcro, and I added a new label as his younger brother had chewed the old label off too 😅

All for around half the price of a new coat!

We love it when you choose to keep your dog coat going longer. It's all part of our passion for sustainability and slow fashion. The Wool was in such great condition still which shows what a great quality material it is, and that's why we choose to upcycle vintage NZ blankets and give them a new purpose! I can make several coats from one blanket which can last many years when well looked after and repaired if needed.

Firstly, I've just done something I never do but done is better than perfect... excuse the new fabrics being photographed AS IS - I do not have time to make up samples of these but I've added the coordinating fleece so you can visualise how it will look! 😍

Secondly - this is a soft head's up that we will be closing our order book for this Winter around the end of June/early July.

Hubby is overseas for the next 7 weeks so I am now even slower than normal while I work and solo parent, and I will also be joining him next month for a couple of weeks. After that I will be stepping back to enjoy some more family time before my "official" maternity leave ends and I go back to my "normal" job 😅

The end date will depend on how many orders I have so there will be a further update in another couple of weeks. I won't be making loads of reminders as I don't want to be swamped, but just know there won't be anymore new colours this year. There is a huge selection of colours now, and as usual if you want something else it's worth asking as I do have another wee stash of odds and ends 🤩

(Side note: if you have a voucher I encourage you to use it now, but you can still contact me and I can make something for you even once we are Closed, that's no problem 🥰)

Benefits of Dog Coats:

While we love to create stylish threads for your dog, at Ruffles Petwear our designs focus on function first. We have tested and tweaked our designs with fit as the number one priority.

Our coats have full coverage over the large muscle groups in the shoulders, back and hind legs, including when your dog lays down to sleep. Our main design also has an extended neck warmer for extra coverage, and for better fit.

These features should be something you look for for any dog, but especially for older dogs who lose their muscle mass and may find it harder to stay warm.

Not all dogs need a warm coat! But breeds with short coats, lean muscle and toy breeds definitely benefit from a warm layer in the cold winter weather. We want them to enjoy their outdoor activities, and they won’t if they are feeling cold!

Wearing a coat at night or for rest periods can also benefit our furry friends. When a dog is warm they are more likely to rest in a more relaxed position rather than tightly curled up trying to keep warm. Tensed muscles, shivering or cold and creaky arthritic joints can lead to unnecessary discomfort.

I'm Olivia, and I am the main brains and woman-power behind the business, with the support of my husband Jacob (and mum Neroli too!). We have a 7 month old son Finn, and two ex-pound pups Aero and Jet.

Ruffles Petwear is a small family owned business based in the Waikato, New Zealand. We specialise in crafting unique and custom coats for dogs. Our goal is to produce practical and functional dog apparel which looks stylish and has a minimal impact on the environment through reusing high quality materials where possible. Our signature wool coats are made using upcycled, 100% wool blankets.
