Bunkered down and ready for these potential tornadoes 🌪 😳
Those without finished paddock shelters have been tucked into yards in the indoor arena and everything that can be blown away has been locked down. Roy is happy to have his bestie, Pud; along with his emotional support cone, he is finding his time so far quite pleasant. Pud doesn't give a rats as long as a haybag is infront of him 🫣
Very grateful for have this big shed for bad weather!
Fingers crossed these storms are not anywhere near as nasty as predicted, stay safe out there everybody!

It held on far longer than expected, but its finally bit the dust. I seem to be able to answer calls at the moment, but not make them nor message anyone.
Sorry to anyone today who got spammed with random messages, random photos and spams of phone calls, it had a glitching fit for a few hours and i couldn't even turn it off to stop it :,)

Princess Gracie is back for her second prep at boarding school.
She had about 10(?) Ish rides in the summertime but those big knees of hers opened and up she went.
A few months of good feed saw her grow much taller and much wider than I remembered her 😂🌱 Looking forward to solidifying some more of her under saddle foundations before inviting her mum round for a steer 😌

Thankyou so much to everyone who enquired, it seems as though I could have filled the paddock tenfold 😅 I really do apologise to those who missed out.

I left myself a spot in August to work one of my own personal projects but he's decided to kick start a big old growth spurt 😅

If anyone is interested I'm happy to replace him with an outside horse for the month of August only. My next availability to book is February 2025.

About a year ago now I was contacted by a lovely lady who was looking to move on 2x young GRPx geldings. Excited at the opportunity, I jumped on it and rallied my bestie for the 7 hour round trip. By the time we got both little monkeys back to my place, my ownership of 2 quickly became 1 as she had fallen in love with the little ginger w**d named P***y. P***y by name, P***y by nature.

So, the journey of handling began and this timid, cheeky little bu**er started to really come out of his shell. He became a curious little guy and really quickly came around to the life of domestication.

He went home to Wangaratta in the early Spring, was renamed Puddy and grew himself big, brave and strong.
Puddy has been back here at Aunty Jess' place for the last 4/5 ? Ish weeks, and tonight the grown up boy had his very first sit.
It's so nice being a part of the long game with young horses and I look forward to spending time with my red headed god child 😂

Funnily enough his owner, Rosie, and my friendship initially blossomed over her other red headed child Peanut, who back when he was a wee baby got a few handling lessons and eventually being broken in by me also.

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling de ja vuuuuu....

⁉️ DID YOU KNOW ⁉️

When you book in a troubled horse (aka problem horse, has vices under saddle, etc) you will need to provide me evidence that this horse has seen a veterinarian and undergone basic checks.
Think of a pre purchase exam, but a "pre training" exam if you will.

For example -
"My horse is rearing and won't go forward, can I book my horse to come for training?"
My usual answer is along the lines of, what do the back and neck xrays say?

"My horse has a really bad attitude"
Has your vet scoped the stomach for any anomaly?

"My horse keeps napping out of the circle"
How do the legs look?

These are basic and off the cuff examples...but you get the idea.

If you are serious about your horse needing help, your first step is a veterinarian. And then your equine dentist, probably your body worker, saddle fitter, farrier...it doesn't end 😂

Why am I strict on this rule? Because I don't want your horse to be hurting, and guess what, I don't want to unnecessarily ride through dangerous vices, either.

For a *similar* cost of 6 weeks in training with me here, you can get scintigraphy done on your horse, which more often than not...reveals a problem hiding underneath.

Obviously vets aren't superhuman and cannot declare with absolute certainty that your horse is pain free...but they can get a pretty good idea.
I'm happy to buckle up and work through the behaviours when vets have said it is ethically okay to do so.
I have helped so many horses overcome their anxieties under saddle and become sane dancing partners with their human. But I cannot do that if they are in pain. Thanks to this rule I have in place, I've had far more "troubled" horses get their booking cancelled than gone ahead with as the vet checks more often than not find some sort of issue/s.

So the long and short of this?
Deep pockets are required if you want to send your troubled horse to me. Vet checks ARE mandatory to send a horse to me with under saddle vices. Despite what many think, training isn't actually often the the cheaper option.

I've been encouraged to start sharing more videos here so people can see the reality of what goes on in my life as a trainer. This horse here shows 2 weeks of progress, when he first came in he displayed serious aggression. He would charge at people with his mouth snapping like a parahna, come flying backwards double barrelling, strike out when patted etc. This horse has been handled in the past therefore this wasn't a case of him being wild/unhandled I am extremely proud of him for putting his trust into me and changing his ways. #horsetrainer #troubledhorses

Want to make your horse quiet? Don't pussyfoot around and allow them to see anything and everything. Casper today had to work behind, around, alongside and opposite the tractor slashing today. Did he like it at first ? No. But he got over it quickly when he realised he had more to concentrate on then some noise in the background 😂

A new concept I've been trying lately with horses who can be a little halter shy is target training. I'm not too perfect at it as I've only tried it with a few of my own personal horses but I'm enjoying learning the process and the results so far. Here's a mare, who isn't actually hard to catch, but at times pulls her nose away from the halter. Mixing up the reward with either a treat or a really good scratch in a nice spot to reduce them learning to be pushy or forming a nipping habit. First time trying it today with her and I'm pretty happy with this outcome already.

First wander on the mini track 😝 Plenty to see and be exposed too. Will be a great training tool for all horses that come in :)
