Leo is one of our sweetest pups. He's an excellent student of the Canines Teaching Compassion Program with our partner @livingunchained_mb and will be graduating soon!
Leo is a 4-year-old mix of what we think is rottweiler and Labrador or Shepard. Due to circumstances of capacity, Leo needs a new foster home. Of course, a permanent forever home is ideal! While he completes his training and reaches his full potential, Leo needs a home where he can continue to practice the training he is getting. If that's you, please DM us for more information and fill out our Foster Volunteer application form on our website.

🐾 Happy International Cat Day! 🐾
Our TNR team celebrated this week by trapping 13 community cats so they could be fixed, vaccinated, and returned. They even got some surprise guests! Momma & babies are doing amazing! Once ready, momma will be fixed so this will be her last litter of kittens. Thank you to Animal Friends Rescue Project for the incredible work they do!
Please consider volunteering, fostering, or donating! With your help we can continue our efforts to help these animals! Check out www.scar.pet
✨Introducing River✨
This girl came to us from King City after someone had discovered her in their driveway. They noticed she looked sick and had an injury to her back leg.
Our TNR team was able pick her up & have her checked out with our good friends at Animal Friends Rescue Project. With their help we found out she was dehydrated, covered in fleas, had an upper respiratory infection, and x-rays revealed a fractured/dislocated pelvis. One of the main concerns is her pelvic canal narrowing & her ability to urinate and express her bowels on her own. After spending a few days under the care of AFRP staff, she showed wonderful improvements; vocal, attempting to move on her own, making biscuits, grooming herself, and eventually urinating & expressing bowel movements without assistance.
With these injuries surgery was estimated to be $12,000 to $15,000. It’s a difficult decision to make with a surgery of this magnitude. Luckily with the guidance of Dr. B & the improvements River has shown, we decided that the most feasible option was to have River crate rested. River will be monitored to ensure her injury heals as best as possible and she will begin water therapy to ensure she regains strength.
At all times throughout our journey with River she has shown how much of a fighter she is. She is yet another example of how resilient animals are. River is a very special kitty and will most likely require special care but we are determined to give her a life she deserves.
River is about 2-3 months old so she contains the energy and excitement just like any average kitten. This means she pushes herself to move around on her own even if it’s to receive pets from her foster mom. To ensure her healing process continues to improve we’d like to get her a wheelchair. Eventually as she grows she may require one tailored to her body but for the time being we’d like her to be able to safely get around.
Again, we’d like to thank Dr. B and the amazing team at AFRP f

When we tell about how amazing our Animal Champions are, we are not exaggerating!
Boo was adopted at our pop-up adoption event at Ace Hardware in King City last Saturday. We're so excited for his new home! Boo was rescued by our TNR Team. He was living a hard life, but with such a tender heart, we knew he just didn't belong in the streets. Our team got him into our care, and with lots of love and attention from Cass and her partner, Boo was ready for his furever home.
Judging by the tearful farewell, Cass wasn't quite ready to let go. Adoptions are always a bittersweet experience, yet we take joy in knowing Boo has found his happily ever after.

🐾 A day in the life of SCAR TNR 🐾
We were originally called to this location for a momma and her litter of kittens. When scouting the area we discovered there were 15+ other cats that would become our newest colony. Amongst the colony we found this boy limping and knew we had to get him checked out. We call him, Buddy.
With the help of our friends at Animal Friends Rescue Project we were able to see get Buddy fixed, vaccinated, clean his wounds, and get him medication for his recovery journey. Help us help Buddy & other community cats by making a donation today!

Ellie loves to play, jump, and climb. She's a pro at cuddles! Her active and happy energy will brighten anyone's day. It's clear that Ellie has come a long way.
We knew she had a longing for a home with loving people. Our TNR program generally returns feral cats to their colony. There are rare occasions when we meet a friendly and gentle kitty like Ellie. She was destined for life indoors. All she needed was a fighting chance.
Adopt Ellie, she's ready for you.

Happy Caturday! Let's talk about TNR 🐱 Trap, Neuter & Return
Our amazing SCAR Animal Champions have breathed new life into our TNR Team, and we couldn't be more proud!
The gradual comeback after a brief and significant scale back in 2023, the core team consisting of Shyann Mitchell of King City, Belen Alvarez of Greenfield and Natali Piña, also of King City is committed to getting all the stray, feral, community cats fixed. Knowing TNR is the most effective preventative method to addressing the root cause of the overpopulation crisis in our community, they've developed a solid program that will undoubtedly cover a lot of ground in South County.
Do you also feel deeply concerned about cats on the streets? Get involved! First, take action by submitting a request to have them TNR'd. We will help get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
Another way to get involved is to join the team! No experience is required. Fill out our volunteer application. Let us know that you're interested in learning more about being part of the team, and we'll connect with you. There are many ways you can be part of the TNR Team: transport cats to and from the surgery appointments, help with laundry duty, or be a trapper!
Lastly and, quite importantly, support our TNR fundraisers! We have one coming up on June 15th. It's a coffee sale with a King City coffeemaker. Stay tuned for more details on that one. You can also get your ticket to Pinot for Paws happening on July 13th at Joyce Winery in Soledad (link in bio).
You'll find the TNR Request Form on the homepage of our website: WWW.SCAR.PET

If you listen closely, you'll hear Boo's soft little purrs.
Boo is one of our gentle community cats rescued through our TNR program.
Trap, Neuter, and Return is a prevention method addressing the cat overpopulation crisis. We trap cats, get them fixed, and return them to their colonies once they are recovered. On the rare occasion that a cat is young or friendly enough, we will intake them and help find a forever home.
Such is Boo's fortune, retired and ready for a good life in the lap of a living human. Adopt Boo!

Watch out, Ruthie! Piper has a new friend.
Welcome, Tobler! Tobler was found at Foods Co. in Salinas, where he waited patiently for days for his family to return for him 😔 Some kind citizens finally caught him and took him to Hitchcock Road Animal Services.
Tobler now has a spot in rescue with SCAR, and today marks a new beginning where he’ll never have to wait for his family in a parking lot (unlesss they’re traveling together). He’s an adorable boy and just the perfect size. Oh, and he LOVES to play!
Both Tobler and Piper will be adoptable soon. Ruthie is the dear foster sis who has been showing them the ropes of family life, and we're grateful for her too 💛

Nemo was found at a trailer park in King City through our TNR program. He was known to be friendly within the neighborhood. He was so friendly that he walked directly into a trap & was unbothered when it shut. He is a 6ish month old black manx.
That's exactly how calm, cool, and collected Nemo is. Give him the chance to brighten up your life, adopt Nemo!
