Australia's Greatest Horsewoman 2024 here we come! Follow our journey of getting Oakie from paddock condition to the big event in 10 weeks! Were going to share ALL of it from training program, show prep, feeding regime, trying to get sponsors (something we have never done before), 3000km travelling with horses, DIY obstacle building and the many ups/ downs and challenges along the way. Like the most obvious of not having an arena to train on or cattle to practice with! We’re all just doing our best, with what we've got, for the love of the Horse.
Wooo thanks Krystal for this beautiful footage and edit 🤩❤️🐴
Clips of Oakie from the ARCHA Nationals 2022.
I love this sport. And this pony. I still can’t believe how well oakie did considering we never work cattle. Pretty much our main focus has been practicing and improving his lead changes. Along with the basic reining manoeuvres (minus the sliding stops as no good surface or shoes). Which did seem to pay off since the last comp. Our changes definitely improved, our spins however went out the door 😅, and our stops were average which was to be expected. It was a mixed bag of things that were better and some that needs some more polish. But our cattle work was the pleasant surprise. It wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but oakie listened even though he was feeling a little overzealous with the beast 😂 and he got the job done. Can’t wait for the next one, going to go practice those spins and stops.. and the rest 😅🐄🐴
This is Ozzie. Ozzie started out like a lot of stock horses I’ve interacted with as very distracted, reactive, sensitive, stiff in the rib age. He also struggled with understanding giving to the reins without leaning on them and stopping was not in his vocabulary 😄. He was a little stuck on auto pilot and wasn’t looking to us for reassurance at all.
After a few good sessions he has come leaps and bounds. His ribs are soft, his hindquarters are stretching, he has learnt to release his poll and continually learning to unlock resistance and tension in his body. His focus has improved out of sight, he is looking to us now for answers and guidance. He is more confident and relaxed. He is quickly learning what the reins mean and that stopping is a good thing.
It is so rewarding being able to help horses learn, grow, connect, relax is such a pleasure. And I’m so excited to see how far Ozzie will go🐴 💕
Tinkering about with Oakies half brother. Can’t wait till he is finished 🥰🐴
The goal at LVH is to reach as many horses & their humans and share essential tools, exercises, techniques & knowledge in order to bridge the gap between horse and human interactions & relations. Ultimately creating more soft, supple, calm, willing, fun, easy horse human partnerships.
Mac cat finally starting to figure this deal out 🥰
Such a cool little pony
It’s been hard not letting deadlines, like aged events, stress me out with this horse. The pressure to feel like you have to keep up with everyone else’s progress can get pretty intense. You feel like you need to be at a certain level by a certain timeframe. And maybe you’re letting the horse or people down if you don’t get there. The thing is though, sometimes the horse just isn’t ready. Sometimes you’re not ready. Sometimes life decides it’s not time.
I finally was able to let go of that pressure when I realised what my goal actually was. And that was to build an epic cow horse team. Learning to let go of that expectation has made us progress faster than when I was worrying about not progressing fast enough, go figure 🤦♀️😅
I can’t wait to see how this little horse evolves over however long it takes! 😉
Trade stalling and competing this weekend at Tropicana Classic 2022. 🌟
If you’re about come and say hi and don’t miss the Cowhorse feature tonight!
Oakie and will be having a run down the fence. ❤️
Miles miles miles
(Or kilometres kilometres kilometres)
This little horse has taken a lot longer to progress than his half brother Oakie.
Bucking, injuries, moving house, covid, floods, there have been so many bumps in the road and hurdles that have slowed us down along the way.
But things happen and it is usually challenging at the beginning of a journey, but each mile (or centimetre rather) we clock up, the easier is gets and soon enough we’re going to reach that goal if we can just keep collecting those kms around the chaos.
Until then, we will press on and enjoy the moody afternoon rides and hanging out with these f#cking cool animals. 🤩🐴😍

Australia’s greatest horsewoman competition practice with diy obstacles 🤦♀️😂
Not entirely sure what the obstacle phase of AGH will have in store for oakie and I this week, so exposure to anything and everything has been in the agenda for oakie. Including navigating our way around our very messy (will it ever stop raining so we can clean up) property 😅
ARCHA national Finals 2021
Cats little Oakie’s Open Two Rein Cow Horse reserve champion run 🐄🐴
Hanging out with my mate 🐴🏝🥰
So I figured out all you need to train a cutting/cowhorse is…
- A 40m x 11,000m sand pit with cars, bikes, dogs, people in it and no fencing 😳
- No saddle, bridle, spurs 😬
- A cow dingo 🥴
- A turd horse on the sideline spooking at sh*t 💩🐴
- An epic little scraggy horse that no one wanted 😇
Ok maybe not 😂 but it’s so much fun and a pleasure to be at a stage with your horse where he trusts, listens, tries no matter what you throw his way.
I like to ride Bridleless from time to time in order to test out our training and find the holes and rough/sloppy edges.
Oak and I had a few main ones that came to light in this little sesh. Oak was short on the cowdingo and was anticipating manoeuvres and I was inconsistent cues/cueing.
While it’s near impossible to make corrections while bridleless (even though I carry the rope to swing around his neck if things go pear shaped), this gives us an opportunity just like we would have in a show situation to test out all the components we need to have a cohesive partnership (brain control, body control, speed control, direction control). With distractions!
And also have a bit of fun in the process 😛
We may not have all the facilities & trimmings, but there’s no complaints here.
Just a beautiful day, an stunning place to ride and an epic little horse. 🐴🏝🥰
