My story starts with my nan and the chocolate and white and the red and white border collies they had as working dogs for sheep and cattle up in the high country. I spent long periods of time on the hills with these dogs and this fostered my love and admiration for them. My pop and I could send them over the hills and watch from the paddock gate as they carefully and efficiently herded the sheep or cows down through the gate and down the road to the yards. I learnt to train, care, love and respect my dogs from my nan and pop. Which I carried with me to my parents family farm where I would train the kelpies and border collies there.
The Australian cattle dog has always been a feature on our back doorstep; even as a baby my parents had a “Red Heeler” - Dusty. She always followed us kids around the farm, protected us from strangers and the milk truck driver😂, guarded the farm carefully, put up with the antic of us kids and photo bombed at every opportunity. After Dusty, my brother got our first “papered“ show bitch “Bangerri Aussie Jewel” who was a stunner and had personality to boot. She loved the farm work and loved coming along for horse rides. Even though she was trained by me , she had eyes for her master. Always sleeping on his clothes and admiring him in every way.
I began my love of showing with my first dog “Sascha”, that I saved half the money for and did all my own training and grooming. The Japanese Spitz became a personal love and respect for such a loyal, protective, smart and hardworking dog for something that was white and fluffy. I respect my mentor Sue Templeton for her guidance and support with showing “Itoshi Kori Yakumi” in the late 90’s. After many years away from the ring (since I was a kid) I have now returned and are slowly getting my own stud up and running. Setting up takes time and money, but I have plans! 😉
I’m looking forward to see what the future holds, and to continue my passion for as long as I can. I owe a lot to my parents for supporting me in my goals, they have supported me to do as I dream and now they look after my kids if I’m away showing. I’ve done one season of showing and looking forward to many more!
