Viking Dog Park Community Welcome to the Viking Dog Park Community, where we humans can interact from the comfort of our homes See you at the park!

Feel free to use this page to post pics of your dog(s), the park, or our dogs' humans. We'll use this as a platform to plan social events, both at the park with dogs and away from the park, with or without dogs. And, of course, any park news will be posted as it comes as well.

Looking for new folks interested in leading the park efforts forward! A few of us were more active in the park when this Facebook group started, but over time our furry companions have passed and/or new companions aren't park-pups. This has created a lull in communications and activities at the park, but that doesn't need to be the case!

If you are interested in improving the park (trail maintenance, burdock removal, signage, helping update and manage this page etc), PLEASE let us know! Message us if you want to be added as an admin to this page (post some images, pass along park ideas to get a group to do the work together, fundraise, help answer questions, etc).

The Dane Co Parks Volunteer Coordinator is hoping to get a Friends group going again, and there is a small amount of seed money to assist in projects. Reach out to Claire if you'd like to be put on an email list to create a Friends group. It's very easy to do, and doesn't require a lot of work! The Parks have been excellent at getting us what we need in the past, and are just looking for new folks with a love of the park to help out!

For folks going to the park this morning (Sunday), there is a snapping turtle laying eggs near the 2nd beach, on the path closest to the beach. (Not the woods “path” but the regular walking path outside the tree line). Please keep a distance from her and make sure your dogs don’t interact. We’ll see if a rehab rescue can move the eggs to a safer location for the babies to hatch.

Rehoming Post: (Some of you may know Pepper from the dog park)

Pepper is a 3-y.o Swiss Mountain Dog/Standard Poodle mix, a medium/large dog of 45 lbs. She’s a wonderful girl, but another dog in the house has been starting fights with her, and they need to be separated.

Pepper is spayed, healthy, and slightly insecure, and looks to her person (or the other dogs in the house) often. She loves running and playing in the water. She’s a huge cuddler and has no sense of personal space. She typically is pretty quiet.

She has lived with a cat, but Pepper does have a higher prey drive and has caught multiple rabbits in her run so it's important to have her in a fenced area or keep her leashed when outside of a fence.
