Birch
As you may know , the orphaned colt from the BLM’s round-up of the South Steens herd is in our care. After spending a night at @bendequine for a thorough evaluation and testing, he is now resting comfortably in quarantine at one of our facilities. We are monitoring slightly elevated SAA’s, comprehensive nutrition and of course his emotional needs around the clock. While we are devastated by the near zeroing out of this herd and in disgust over the injured and killed, we carry on, holding the space with a full heart for this little angel, who deserves nothing but the best we can give in the name of his lost family. We do not know what has happened to his mother and we do not have the authority to do anything extensive search- we will do what we can within our bounds. Our team will be rehabbing and treating anything that comes up as side effects of the round-up and days without nutrition. 3S offers orphans in our herd the most comprehensive care- our orphan program is of the highest standard for their physical and emotional well-being. We are so sorry for what you and your herd has had to endure. Welcome to us, little Birch. Birch appears in Celtic tradition as a symbol of the awakening of new life and in old English means ‘bright’ and ‘shining. Here is a video of the little colt leaving @bendequine and ready to see what life has in store for his magical little self. There will be more to come!
As many wild horse advocates are aware well over 800 wild horses have been round-up from the South Steens Herd Management Area in Eastern Oregon. This is a ransacking number for this treasured herd.
We are a horse rescue organization that does not support zeroing out herds, running horses with a helicopter until exhaustion, separating family bands, and the inhumane handing of all horses and particularly foals. We are proud to be qualified and at the ready to safely handle, provide lifesaving medical care, train and properly home wild horses.
Rest assured that the colt seen here scared to death and flipping out of the trailer, later to be deemed an orphan (cause unknown at this time) is now 100% safe and in the best care.
We can’t do this orphan work without our supporters so visit our website or message us to learn how you can help.
If you know 3S, you know this very sad situation will give way to a beautiful story. More to follow.

Cricket is looking G-double O-D, good! 10th ride on this girl and she slipped in a flying lead change!
Cricket is available for adoption. 4 year old Warm Springs Mustang, this gal is coming along so nicely. Stocky, but on the shorter side- with tack her rider needs to be 160-175 lbs. Cricket likes kind boundaries and a partnership. Consistency is the key to her heart. This girl has personality and brains! She is confident around so many things, that she will make a great trail partner.
She is very green, so an experienced, forever home is a must.
Adoption fee applies. Yes she is in rescue, but she is not free. Detailed application applies and we are very picky about the placement of our horses.

Yesterday late afternoon we welcomed our 3rd orphan of the year! Her mother was tragically hit and killed by a car. She was alone for a day or two 💔❤️🩹💔
We picked her up from @harry histake and rushed her to Bend Equine Medical Center to be assessed.
She as you might imagine was dehydrated, exhausted and hungry. She has some muscle enzymes indicating she had ran around a bit and we could tell her legs hurt. Some scrapes but overall not bad.
She was started on IV fluids and glucose which brought her around rather quickly. Started on antibiotics and fed. She didn’t fight the bucket as she was starving. She’ll be hospitalized for a few days and we could sure use our community’s support.
We named her Cinder 🧡🧡🧡
