Lazy geldings that just lag and enjoy the views vs dominant mares that charge the front🤣
You never know who’s gonna visit the rehab barn! Thankfully this big, sweet girl didn’t mind letting the little guy get a much needed drink☺️
It’s HOT!🥵 let us keep your horses cool and fit this summer☀️
Just a good girl enjoying her first trip through the treadmill😁
Afternoon workout session!
Increased stride. Stronger, more flexible shoulders.💪🏼
I think it’s safe to say Jag loves his stretches😁
We love to see when these horse’s really lean into their stretches and get the most out of them.
A happy girl getting her workout on😁
The happiest horse in the treadmill! So relaxed. So at peace with herself just walking along🤗
Happy Monday☀️ who else is loving these cooler fall temps in southern AZ🙋🏽♀️
✨Lower water levels✨
my personal favorite water level to work horses at, if the patient’s condition will allow of course.
We really like to utilize the lower water levels to engage the core. Horses naturally want to pick their feet up over the water, which raises the back and puts the abdominal muscles to work holding the back up. I try to encourage horses to keep their heads level or lower when doing so to also strengthen the back. You can see in this video this mare had only been in the treadmill a couple of times. She was really wanting to hollow her back out due to her lack of muscling over the thoracic/lumbar regions. As she gets stronger and we build the core and back muscles her desire to hollow her back out will be come less. This is our go to water level when rehabbing kissing spine horses.
I will also use lower water levels to loosen the shoulders and encourage a lengthened stride. This particular patient however, that was not the goal.

Impulsion. Collection. Flexion.
We’re watching the head horse here ladies and gentlemen! We got the pleasure to get Sam ready for the Spring Cowpunchers roping and he sure showed up. Jack Urbanek and Sam won the Incentive Team Tying and took second in the Open Team Tying. Sam was conditioned for 3 weeks prior to the rodeo and got a full body workout each day with an emphasis on core strength and lung capacity so he could take the hits, pull the steers and keep the rope right for multiple runs without getting weak and tired. This video is the short round run and Sam is still firing hard and staying strong after running 5 previous steers within just 2 hours. It pays to get your horse feeling right and fit at Avra Equine!
