Helping Homeless Felines was contacted by a rural rescuer about a badly injured white cat at a recycling center. Of course we offered to help because we try to help the sick, injured and special needs.

Cotton was splinted for 3 weeks with the hope of saving her leg. Unfortunately her leg was shattered and not repairable . Cotton’s back leg had to be amputated.

Every penny we get for donations goes to cats like Cotton. She has had such a rough start in life living with fleas, ear mites , parasites and having to give birth to at least one litter. After we get her spayed Cotton will be up for adoption

Thank you all for the wonderful birthday messages. It was a rough birthday month being that I contracted COVID and had a rough go of it and then my elderly mother caught it...the guilt is eating me up that she probably caught if from me despite my precautions.
My Helping Homeless Felines birthday fundraiser raised enough to be able to sponsor Gretel with the Shenandoah Valley Humane Society. Melissa Miller reached out to us about a little black kitten seen hit by a car and left for dead on a rural road. Thank goodness a rescue volunteer saw the kitten being hit and immediately rescued her. Gretel was badly hurt but from the instant she was rescued off the street she showed her fighting spirit. Thank you for Patty C for arranging emergency surgery at Pender Vet in Fairfax with Dr Hyatt.
Gretel had a front arm amputation and a back hip/leg pinning. Under Melissa's care sweet Gretel has flourished and enjoying 3 hots and a cot.
Thank you for your generous donations for my birthday to Helping Homeless Felines. We were able to help Gretel with her surgeries and hopefully a full pain-free life....

It has been a year since I have done a fundraiser for my rescue Helping Homeless Felines. For my birthday I would like to ask for donations so that we can keep sponsoring and helping the sick, injured, disabled and special needs cats. We are different than other small rescues in that we seek out the special needs. HHF is an all volunteer organization.
Our veterinary bills this past year have been astronomical due to FIP cases and just the high cost of veterinary care for the special needs. It is worth every cent to be able to help cats like Odin who is now cured from FIP and 3 legged Bailey who now lives with tripod Milo at the Silverado and 3 legged Goldie who waited almost a year for her forever home as well as one-eyed Mercy, blind Galaxy and on and on.....
In order for HHF to continue helping special needs, sick, ferals and disabled we need to raise money.
Thank you to all of our supporters.... means a lot to hear updates and thanks....
Please feel free to donate via PayPal [email protected] (Family and Friends) or send check to HHF 10125 Spring Lake Ter Fairfax, VA 22030

ODIN is cured of FIP !!!!

A week after Odin, a black young adult from a very rural shelter, went to his new foster to adopt home he was unfortunately diagnosed with FIP. FIP or Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a deadly disease afflicting more and more cats worldwide.

Thank god his foster mom Diana Serres researched FIP and found the Facebook group FIP WARRIORS 5.0.
FIP WARRIORS 5.0 is the most amazing volunteer organization of owners, rescuers and veterinary staff who one way or another have had to deal with this god awful FIP. With their guidance along with Dr Kathy Werden Odin was immediately started on the FIP protocol to hopefully save his life. The Serres family opted to not return Odin to Helping Homeless Felines but to go the route whatever it took to try and save Odin’s life . It was a rough road that included routine bloodwork and testing, painful daily injections of serum antibodies, skin sores, and immense stress for all concerned….. Odin had 84 days of daily injections and then 84 days of the “observation” period to see if the treatment was effective.

The cost of the medication is very expensive but it is truly a lifesaver for cats afflicted with FIP. Helping Homeless Felines was on board to sponsor Odin's medical costs since Diana and Todd were 100% committed to saving this wonderful cat’s life. They knew this was going to be a very long haul with ups and downs and no certainty that Odin would be cured.

A very special shout-out to Dr Kathy Werden and her extraordinary staff at Harmony Hill AH in Sterling, VA for their expertise and attention to Odin as well as the FIP WARRIORS 5.0 group for their support and guidance through this 6 plus month journey to save Odin’s life.

It needs to be also mentioned Helping Homeless Felines was able to sponsor most of Odin’s medical/veterinary care through the amazing grant awarded us by Community Foundation for Loudoun County’s Ursula Landsrath Animal Fund. This grant is going to continue “pawing forward” by allowing Helping Homeless Felines to help other FIP rescue cats through sponsorship and/or providing resources and supplies for newly diagnosed FIP cats.

The word has to get out to veterinarians all over that FIP can be cured….this treatment is not for every FIP cat or family of a sick FIP feline due to many factors but hopefully over time the cost of the medication will go down and more and more resources become available so NO cat has to die of FIP….

We are so proud of Odin…. He is now cured and healthy. GO ODIN SERRES!!! And thank you to Diana Serres for “paying forward” by being a volunteer administrator on the FIP Warriors 5.0 group.

I am so proud of Bailey. Who would have thought this big boy who showed up at a feral site in rural VA with a mangled leg would end up being the mascot at the amazing Silverado. He is a star amongst the residents and staff strutting along with his 3 legs. Thank you to Julia and staff at Silverado for accepting Bailey. Helping Homeless Felines loves the special needs and disabled. They deserve a great life too.

Helping Homeless Felines has been very busy. JudyAnn, my foster extraordinaire, is managing some gorgeous abandoned cats from the streets overseas. Three new rescues include a one-eyed girl, a long haired older Persian, Beiji, left in the street hungry and terribly matted. Beiji is in an amazing foster home and then up for adoption after grooming and rest.
Polly is an older kitty who was rescued after being hit by a car. This poor cat suffered an eye removal, broken jaw and horrendous pain. The rescuer in Kuwait was desperate to get her into a rescue because Polly has been mostly confined to a crate for almost 2 years due to no chances of adoption or rescue. Helping Homeless Felines offered to take these amazing cats. All Polly wants to do is sit in a lap 24/7. She would make an amazing companion to a home where she can just lounge on a lap.....

HHF loves to help the special needs and give them a chance to be pain-free and a new lease on life..

Updates forthcoming...

HELPING HOMELESS FELINES is pleased to be able to help another special needs kitty. Bailey showed up at a feral colony while the feral feeder happened to be feeding the cats. She immediately noticed his badly injured back leg that was bleeding and raw. This kind lady promptly took him to a vet for urgent care. Because his injuries were life threatening due to the massive infection on his mangled leg Bailey would either need painful grafts or back leg amputation.

HHF was contacted to sponsor Bailey's surgery and medical care. He is now in our care recovering very well. Bailey goes to vet for follow up and dental soon. He is FIV + which is unfortunate but with his spectacular purrsonality we hope to find him a forever home once he is completely healed.

Please keep your eyes open for a wonderful home for Bailey. He is so gentle and loves to be petted and to nap on a lap. Tolerates other cats.

Updates will be forthcoming on Bailey's recovery. We are very happy to help this very sweet cat who obviously was never cared for properly and most likely abandoned at the feral site.

Thumper fell down 6 flights of stairs in Kuwait. Thank god a lady scooped him up and found a rescuer in the city to help Thumper. He is paralyzed and unable to use back legs. He needs to be expressed and wears a diaper. Helping Homeless Felines offered to take Thumper and find him a home. He flew to Dulles where we met up with him.

Thumper and I will be flying to CO on Tuesday to his new home where Stevie lives. He lives in CO now so we will be seeing Stevie again and introducing him to Thumper, his new friend.

Thank you all for your amazing donations for my birthday fundraiser. We have been very busy helping a few sick cats and sponsoring surgeries. If I have not personally thanked you please know I am very grateful.

For my 60th birthday I would like to raise money for Helping Homeless Felines. I set this rescue up 7 years ago after being run over by a car and badly injured which has affected every aspect of my life. Having a severely handicapped brother has drawn me to the special needs of the world. One is not asked to be born with a debilitating condition or illness; thus, my focus all along has been to rescue special needs, abandoned, sick and injured strays, ferals and abused cats. These that are the least to be rescued.

Please know Helping Homeless Felines is a very small organization with 2 main foster homes. We do an incredible amount of work and help for so many badly needed cats with a handful of loyal volunteers. We are "all volunteer" and do not receive a cent for our work. It is my belief donations go to helping the cats not paying the volunteers. We have kept it this way.

A special thank you to JudyAnn Gray for her fostering many of the abandoned cats and/or kittens all along working a full-time job as a high school teacher. Patty Cake is always there to help raise money for a big surgery or vet visit with sole purpose of getting a cat out of pain and reviewing adoption applications......

I am shooting high for my fundraiser this year because we have committed to sponsor major surgeries ( 2 leg removals, 3 eye removals and as many dentals as we can afford for stray cats having difficulty eating). Since the pandemic the veterinary costs have sky-rocketed affecting every rescue group.

In lieu of donating this year for my birthday I ask that you make a point of saying a kind word to another fellow animal rescuer. The public has no idea how difficult and discouraging animal rescue can be so a kind supportive word does go a long way.

This pandemic not only hugely impacted people but also cats and the two shown here are victims of Covid in their own way. Both of their humans lost their jobs and subsequently lost their home. These 2 7-year old super loving and beautiful kitties also suffered the consequences but have now been taken in by our rescue. They are fully vetted. Both love being with people and the black boy is hoping for some lap time. They do not have to be adopted together so please pass the word if anyone is looking for a wonderful companion (or 2).

UPDATE on CLARK: Been awhile since a status report on Clark. This poor abandoned cat was finally diagnosed with entropian in his eyes. This is a very painful and irritating condition whereby the eyelids and lashes invert scratching the cornea. Eye drops and ointments were not helping.

Thank you to Dr. Amber Burton of Wolftrap Animal Rescue in Merrifield, VA who fit him in her packed schedule after she saw the photos of his eyes and read my pleas for help to get his surgery done before mid August which was first available elsewhere. She and her team operated on both eyes and believe Clark will feel so much better...finally.

Clark had a good night and is already showing signs of relief from pain. He never would be in front of crate or let me rub all over him.
He tolerated me giving him eyedrops and a pain pill.

More updates to follow...... an example of what Helping Homeless Felines specializes in....getting stray and abandoned cats out of pain.

A special shout-out to Lisa W for sending a generous donation in to help off-set his surgery bill.

Congratulations to Elsa Barzilai on her Bat Mitzvah a few weeks ago. We are so touched that Elsa asked her friends and family in lieu of gifts to make a donation to Helping Homeless Felines. Elsa and her family adopted two special cats from us two years ago...Kit and Dodi. Kit had his tail removed due to an injury and Dodi brought over from Afghanistan by the Washington Post bureau chief in Kabul. Dodi is a handful but Elsa and the Barzilai family have hung in there with all of Dodi's antics.

Elsa solely designed our 2020 end of year collage which we send out once a year for donations. She did such a great job all on her own.

Elsa is so selfless, generous and kind. What young person today do you know that would ask her family and friends to donate to charity in lieu of gifts on her very special day......... not many!

Congratulations Elsa..... A fabulous celebration at your home with the Alpaca's and ice cream truck was terrific!!!

Thank you again to Elsa Barzilai on behalf of Helping Homeless Felines....

HELPING HOMELESS FELINES is very happy to add to our little family of special needs cats which will be up for adoption after the medical care is provided and fully vetted. Welcome Anna who is completely blind. Found on a street in Kuwait City all by herself. Mare was found in a barn. Most likely stepped on by a horse. One leg completely paralyzed and other has obvious trauma. She runs around like a gazelle. We will be taking both cats for veterinary care. Sweet Mare will probably need amputation.

Shame on the family who felt it ok to move away 4 years ago and leave their pet cat to fend for himself in a transient townhouse community. It took 2 rescuers ( thank you Lisa W and Marsha) to happen upon him and reach out to Helping Homeless Felines for help with trapping and providing him medical care. He was subjected to sticks and stones by nasty children. One of the neighbors sneaks out at night to feed by the sewer but she has now been ordered to cease any feeding. This poor flame point cat's eyes are infected and his mats are covering his body. He is filthy. He sat in the rain by the sewer watching me set the traps up.

This innocent cat will be going to the vet for a complete exam and shave and any other medical care he needs.

Another example of lack of responsibility when owning a pet.

Helping Homeless Felines is very grateful to Mary C for giving Cooper a wonderful home. It was love at first sight for her when she laid eyes on handsome Cooper now Willoughby. This amazing kitty had a long journey but finally is in a forever home with his new canine buddy Angus. Willoughby's mom is a very successful professional with an amazing career. She believes in Helping Homeless Feline's mission to help the sick, injured and abandoned cats which says a lot about her. We love her!! As you can see Willoughby's new mom has great tastes in cats and guitar cases...

Another successful rescue... A special shout-out to JudyAnn, Missy and Anfal for helping Cooper and many others like him get rescued, cared for and off to their new lives......
