Here are a few livestock tips for the newer people and a reminder for all. Feel free to message with any questions!
As we enter this week of single digit temperatures, always make sure your livestock are drinking, hay 24/7, have deep, clean bedding and out of the wind. Make sure any drafty areas are covered. We bring warm water to our goats 2 x a day, they know it’s warm and come right over to drink it. If you can’t use warm water, fresh water, dumping buckets or scooping ice chunks out will be helpful as well. Licking ice off a bucket is not enough water intake. Remember livestock have a hide, thicker skin and more fur to keep them warm. Rabbits prefer the cold over heat and will do well if out of draft. Bringing them inside will only be harmful to them to adjust to the warm and cold so fast.
All livestock should be checked on a minimum of 2 x a day to make sure they are comfortable, have hay and fresh water.
