We are going to do things a little different this year with our nuc orders. We won’t be doing the traditional order list to avoid some past complications and stresses.

This year we will be tying out a “will call” list. This means if you’re interested in a nuc from us I will call names in the order they ask to be put on this list when the nucs are ready.

So if you would like a call when nucs are ready send me your contact info.

We are going on hiatus until further notice for personal reasons. Retail honey sales will be paused and nuc sales this year will be on a first come first serve basis.

This has been a difficult decision for us but necessary. We are hopeful to have a new business model in the upcoming year.

With all the wet weather I've not had a lot of opportunities for videos. To be honest I haven't had much going on that I thought would make a good video. I've just been getting equipment together and things built in preparation for spring.

I don't know about you guys, but this last part of winter seems to drag on and fly by at the same time. I can hardly wait for spring, but still so much to do 😄

This 60 degree day with sunshine is wonderful after the past weeks weather!

The maples at home are starting to open up, which is a little earlier than typical for these trees.

I use the maples here at the house as indicator trees for the maple bloom. I can be reasonably certain if those are blooming that there’s plenty more out there farther along.

Agriculture can be unpredictable, so we don’t take more pre-orders than we can handle. Most years we do have extras available though.

You may have heard me mention previously about wanting a lift gate or a boom to take some of the workload pulling honey. A boom wasn't a good fit for me right now with the truck I have so I decided to look for a lift gate.

I visited with another beekeeper who had been using a liftgate exactly how I wanted, which really sold me on the idea. So, I picked up a used non-working lift gate, and with a little finagling and a great friend with welding skills the lift gate is on and working great.

At the hive life 2023 conference I had a couple mentions about this video. It didn’t get a lot of attention when I first posted it but it was suggested to me to bring it back up by some viewers.

My collection has grown a little since but there’s still some great book suggestions there.

With winter here and it still being the off season for most beekeepers, I hope some of you find a new(old) book to read from it.

Wicwas Press will be at the Memphis area beekeepers shortcourse later this month, they have most of the books I shared as well as many more. If you’re local to Memphis and want a particular title let Wicwas Press know, I’m sure they’ll bring it if they can!

Wintertime is proving to be a tough time to make content for me. I made this video twice, and never did get it to come off the way I wanted.

Nevertheless this is what I have going on this time of year. It’s pretty specific info for my area, but I still hope most of you can find some useful information in it. I plan to revisit this topic.

With that said, this is an excellent time of year to scout for new outyards. In this video I'm showing some land features that i look for when scouting, and what I look for before setting up a new apiary site.

These cards are what I've came up with to hopefully help me be a better beekeeper and Queen breeder.

I have all the best intentions when it comes to record keeping, but I always seem to slack off and not keep it up to standards. Ian Steppler uses a card system and his definitely inspired me to make these.

Now we just need to see how they weather and what else I want to change. I'm looking forward to next year!
