🐾 Canine Body Language Certificate Laura's Paws is a family run business offering personal, caring and reliable dog walking and pet sitting services in Brightlingsea. We are here for your pets when you can't be - whether that's during the day whilst you work or when you head off on your holidays. We focus on pro

viding bespoke dog walking and pet sitting services based on the individual needs of your beloved pets. We offer individual dog walks, which can be tailored to suit your dog, and small group walks for canine socialisation and play. Our initial consultation with you enables us to get to know your pets so we can decide on the best services for your individual situation – and you can relax knowing that your dog is out having a great time with us. We can also care for your cats and small pets in your home whilst you are away. We also provide an overnight pet sitting service for dogs so that they can stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own home, enabling them to maintain their routine as closely as possible, giving you peace of mind that whilst you are away from your pets they are happy and safe. At Laura's Paws we are fully insured, DBS checked and hold a qualifications in Pet First Aid. I (Laura) started Laura’s Paws in 2018 after returning from a year of travelling New Zealand and Australia. I loved our time spent travelling but there was something missing – no pets! So we signed up to become pet sitters in New Zealand and were able to care for some amazing pets whilst continuing to explore the country. It was then that I decided I would like to make a career involving my love of animals when I returned home. Emma joined the Laura’s Paws team in September 2021 after spending almost three years pet sitting around Australia. During that time, she cared for lots of cats and dogs, as well as many different animals - even hermit crabs! She loved spending so much time caring for people’s pets, and couldn’t wait to continue when she returned home. Laura has a Level 2 City & Guilds qualification in Dog Walking, a Pet Sitting and Dog Walking diploma from New Skills Academy, and is currently studying Level 3 Canine Behaviour at British College of Canine Studies. She also has qualifications in Canine Body Language and Reactivity from the Dog Training College. Emma has also has a qualification in Canine Body Language from the Dog Training College.

As most of you now know, we had the lovely Tasmin join the team a little while ago 🫶

For any of you that haven’t yet had the pleasure of officially meeting Tasmin, and would like to do so, please just raise your hand here or drop me a little message to organise this. Sorry Auntie Emma, I don't think he'll be much help 😂💕

📢 Attention Laura's Paws Family! 📢

We are pawsitively busy here at Laura's Paws, and we wanted to give you a quick update! 🐾

🌟 Working Hours 🌟
With the start of the summer holidays, we're receiving lots of new enquiries. We appreciate your patience as we get back to everyone. We promise to reply to your messages within reasonable working hours. If your furry friend is in our care, we’ll do our best to get back to you ASAP. However, please remember we’re often in bed by 9 PM, snuggled up with our own fur babies and families 🛌💤

📞 Phone Calls 📞
We often can't answer phone calls as we're out dog walking, giving the dogs our full attention, so please leave a message or send us a text, WhatsApp, or email. Please provide as much detail as possible to help us respond to your enquiry quickly.

Also, as much as we love hearing from you, we kindly ask that you avoid calling us at 5 AM! We’ll be happy to chat once we’ve had our morning cuppa! ☕🐾

👶 Maternity Leave 👶
And a little update: Laura is still on her maternity leave, enjoying precious time with her new addition to the family. All calls and messages are still currently being handled by Emma, so it may take a little while longer to get back to you than usual.

Thanks for your understanding and support! You guys are pawsome! 🐶🐱

Much love,
The Laura's Paws Team 💕🐾

What a week! 😅💜

We’ve cried happy & sad tears, we’ve stacked it, we’ve belly laughed, we’ve been hit in the head by flying birds and we’ve absolutely lost the plot on some days! 🤪 And to top it off, we’ve had an absolute scorcher of a day today 🥵

We’ve also been busy booking in lots of meet & greets this week (and some for next week too!) so will soon have lots of new faces we can’t wait to show off! 😍🐾

☀️ HOT WEATHER & SMALL PETS 🐰

As the warm weather continues, our small pets may also be feeling the heat. Here is some advice on how you can help to keep your small pets, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, cooler during the summer months.

🐾 Provide plenty of shade – think carefully about the best place for your pet's enclosure. Keeping them in a shady area and out of direct sunlight will keep them happy and healthy.

🐾 Provide access to fresh, clean water at all times - small pets may need to drink more during the warmer weather so check of their water bowls/bottles throughout the day to ensure they have sufficient. You could also add extra bowls/bottles so they have more choice of places to drink from.

🐾 Check their nesting areas – to ensure your small pets are able to rest and sleep comfortably, their nesting areas need to remain cool during the warmer weather. Avoid using plastic houses, dens or tunnels as these can become very hot and humid.

🐾 Use cooling mats/ice pods/frozen water bottles/ceramic tiles – to give your pets a cool space to rest and relax in their enclosure you could provide a cool mat or ice pod for them to lay next to. If you don’t have one, you could freeze a ¾ full water bottle and wrap in a sock to give the same effect. Be careful not to let your pet lay directly on the frozen bottle as this can cause ice burns.

🐾 Providing fresh fruit and veg – keep your pets hydrated by feeding them foods with extra water in, such as apples, cucumber and celery. These could also be given from the fridge to make them extra cool. Soaking greens in water before feeding can also provide extra hydration.

🐾 Don’t give them a cool bath – whilst for us, a cool dip sounds appealing in the hot weather, do not be tempted to do the same for your small pets. It will be very stressful for them, and can even cause them to go into shock.

🐾 Grooming – keeping your pets well groomed will also help them to beat the heat as they shed their winter coats.

Our Lily & Floppy have their ice pod and ceramic tiles out to keep them cool, of course, they are choosing to ignore them but they are there if they need them!

Today we didn’t just lose a beloved pet, we lost a best friend, the most precious boy there is. It’s true what they say about leaving paw prints on your heart - Aero will forever be on ours.

14 wonderful years of the most beautiful, happy memories that I will treasure forever. You had the most amazing family who gave you the absolute best in every way, right until the end. You have already left such a big hole in our lives, and will be so greatly missed by all who knew you.

Sleep tight, Aero. We love you 🩵

🎆 FIREWORKS - SATURDAY 6TH JULY 🎆

As part of the Brightlingsea Regatta this weekend, there will be a fireworks display at the hard on Saturday evening.

According to the RSPCA, it is estimated around 45% of dogs show signs of fear when hearing fireworks!

There are many things we can do both before and during fireworks to help our pets find them less stressful. Here are some top tips:

🐾 Walk your dogs before it gets dark when fireworks are less likely to be set off.

🐾 Feed your pets before you expect any fireworks, as anxious pets are often less inclined to eat.

🐾 Ensure your property and gardens are secure, just incase your dog becomes frightened and tries to run.

🐾 Close doors, windows and curtains to muffle the noise of fireworks and block out flashes of light.

🐾 Create a den for your dog where they can feel safe. Fill it with their favourite toys and a blanket.

🐾 Consider keeping your cats inside as they may become more stressed if outside during fireworks.

🐾 Create some hiding spaces for your cats where they can feel safe.

🐾 Distract pets from the noise of fireworks by having the TV or radio on.

🐾 Consider bringing smaller pets, such as rabbits and guinea pigs, inside or partially covering their cages with a blanket.

🐾 Try to act normally, remain calm and cheerful to send positive messages to your pets, and reassure them if they need it.

More information and advice on keeping your pets safe during fireworks can be found on the RSPCA website.
