Why we can’t ask for donations ahead of time. Things happen so fast……. We need your help!!!

Rooster is a very happy puppy that takes it as it comes. We want to be sure he has the life he deserves.

He is a 9 month old Shiba that came into SIRA’s care on March 1st from a puppy mill. Rooster has 2 heart conditions. He has a VSD and a DCRV (double chamber right ventricle) The DCRV is extremely rare. On August 14th he was taken to emergency because he woke up his foster mom breathing weird. He had a fever and was diagnosed with pneumonia. His x-rays showed a foreign body in his lung. He was released to go home on the evening of August 15th on antibiotics.

On August 20th, Rooster was rushed back to the emergency because his breathing was worse again and he was back to not eating. The antibiotics weren’t working and he went back on oxygen. Rooster received a chest tube because there was pus in his chest. Lots of puss came out. On August 22nd he got an echo and he was cleared for a CT scan and surgery. There were 2 lobes of his lung affected so they were both removed. He was released on August 26th.

We are still waiting to see if Rooster will become a candidate for surgery on his heart. He will remain in foster care until we know for sure. This is a very rare surgery but he’s still important to SIRA so we will make it happen if we can.

So far Rooster’s emergency vet bills have added up to $10,669.61

Eevee update! Our Wonder Woman has been liberated from her cone and is loving some new found freedom!! Tuesday, she had her sutures removed. Healing is looking amazing!! She needed to wear her cone for a few extra days so her surgical cuts healed properly. She’s started using her "new" leg, slowly yet surely.
At the end of the month, she'll start back up with physical therapy! We're just so thrilled at Eevee's progress. We knew this would be a long and expensive road, but we knew we had to try. SIRA is endlessly grateful to Eevee's amazing foster family, who has nursed her through two surgeries and recoveries while also caring for other foster dogs. SIRA could not have given Eevee this chance without them and we could not do what we do without committed foster homes.

🐾 Meet Bea – Your New Favorite Walking Buddy 🧡

Hi there! I’m Bea, a 6-year-old, 27-lb Shiba girl living the good life in my foster home in Green Bay, WI after leaving a commercial breeding facility behind. I’m slowly discovering just how wonderful it feels to be part of a real home — and I’m loving it.

🦴 I’m still learning to trust, but I already have a few favorites:

Walks? LOVE them. Foster mom says I’m a total pro on leash.

Backyard time? Yes please. I enjoy stretching my legs and exploring.

Scratches and gentle cuddles? I’m learning they feel really nice — I might be a future snugglebug!

🧡 I’m a curious but cautious girl. Sudden sounds and unfamiliar movements still spook me sometimes. If I get overwhelmed, I pace or search — there’s just so much to figure out! But when foster mom gently guides me or lets me settle in my kennel, I calm down and relax.

🏡 I’m potty trained, not destructive, and spayed, vaccinated, and healthy.

🐕 I’d love a calm, quiet forever home — no young kids, please — and I’d be happy to have a friendly resident dog to show me the ropes. I haven’t met any cats, but I do get a little chasey with critters outside, so a no-cat household is probably best.

🚪 My forever family will need to be careful with open doors and gates. I’m sneaky and might try to scale a baby gate or nudge open a crate if it’s not secure.

If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a gentle, shy sweetheart to join your pack — especially if you enjoy daily walks and soft cuddles — I’d love to meet you!

Learn more and apply to adopt at www.savingshibas.com/adopt. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can get to know each other.

Let’s take the next step — together. 💛

Meet Anne – A Shy Sweetheart Ready to Wiggle Her Way Into Your Heart 💕

Hi, I’m Anne, and I’m on the lookout for a forever home where I can blossom! I’m still a puppy—just under a year old—and weigh a petite 18 lbs. I came from a commercial breeding facility and now live with a wonderful foster family in Dorchester, IA, where I’m learning how amazing life can be when you’re loved.

I’m a little shy at first, especially with loud noises or quick movements, but once I trust you, I’ll greet you with tail wags, wiggly joy, and plenty of affection. I’m especially fond of following my foster mom around the house. I get along with other dogs after a slow introduction, and I love to play chase—I’ve got energy to spare and some typical puppy roughhousing to share!

Kids are a bit too much for me, though—their squeals and sudden movements scare me. I’m fine with the cats in my foster home and usually leave them alone.

Like any puppy, I’m still learning the ropes. I love to chew (grass, toys, furniture—you name it!), and I’m an expert at unstuffing toys. I’m doing well with potty training and kennel time, and I’m learning how to walk on a leash. I prefer to do my business in a securely fenced yard and could use help getting more comfortable with baths (not a fan yet!).

I’m spayed, vaccinated, and healthy, with just a mild heart murmur (grade 1–2) that doesn’t require treatment.

My ideal forever home? Patient humans, no young kids, and at least one confident resident dog to help show me the ropes. You'll need to be careful around doors, gates, and fences—I'm a clever girl and, like many Shibas, I have escape skills!

If you live in the Midwest and think we might be a match, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Once you're approved, you’ll be introduced to my foster mom—and hopefully, to me, too!

I’m sweet, curious, and oh-so-ready for a family to love. Could it be yours? 🐾

Meet Mae – The Chicken-Lovin’ Leash-Walkin’ Lady! 🍗💕

Hi, I’m Mae, a sweet and cautious 4-year-old Shiba girl looking for a forever home to call my own! I weigh 30 lbs, and I’m living with my foster family in New Berlin, WI after leaving my puppy-making days behind at a commercial breeding facility.

I may be shy at first, but I’ve discovered that life with humans has some serious perks—like CHICKEN. Did I mention the chicken? Because seriously, chicken might just be my love language.

🐾 Great with Dogs, Cool with Cats
I get along well with the other dogs here and don’t mind the cat (though he usually keeps his distance unless I’m safely in my kennel 😅).

👶 Kid-Friendly(ish)
I’ve met a tiny human and did okay, but those quick, unpredictable toddler moves still make me a little nervous. A home with older, respectful kiddos would be more my speed.

🚶‍♀️ Leash-Walking Pro!
Foster mom says I’m a dream to walk with. No pulling, no nonsense—just a laid-back stroll with a girl who’s learning to love the good life.

🏡 Housebroken & Home-Ready
I’m fully potty trained and a respectful houseguest. I like lounging around, going for walks, and slowly learning that human affection (and head scritches!) are actually really nice.

🎯 Ideal Forever Home

Loves walks AND CHICKEN

Has a securely fenced yard or knows how to prevent door dashes (I am a Shiba, after all)

Might have another friendly dog, but I’d also do just fine as your one-and-only

Calm, patient humans who understand shy dogs

🩺 I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated—ready to chicken-walk right into your heart.

If you live in the Midwest and want a chill walking buddy with a soft spot for snacks, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Once you’re approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Walks? Chicken? Love? I’m in. Let’s do this. 💛

Hi, I’m Dixie!

I’m a 4-year-old, 17-pound little lady looking for my forever home. Life started out a bit rough for me, but thanks to my foster family in Jonesburg, MO, I’m learning what it means to feel safe and loved. I might be shy and scared at first, but here’s a tip—freeze-dried beef liver treats are the way to my heart!

I’m a curious and clever girl who loves playing keep-away in the yard. Back when I first arrived, foster mom couldn’t catch me, even with a drag leash! But now, I’ve learned that it’s okay to let her approach and pick me up—it even feels kind of nice. Exploring the fenced yard is one of my favorite things, and I’ve even had fun bonding with another Shiba here. She found her forever home, and foster mom says I’m next in line!

I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated—ready to start this exciting new chapter with a family who understands me. My perfect home will have patient humans experienced with shy, fearful dogs and another friendly resident dog to help me feel safe and confident. A securely fenced yard is a must for me to explore and play while I continue building trust.

I’m still working on leash skills, so I’ll need someone willing to help me gain confidence there. I’m good with cats but would do best in a calm home without little kids—they’re just a bit too overwhelming for me.

If you’re in the Midwest and ready to help a shy, sweet girl blossom, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet. Don’t forget those liver treats!

Wags and love,
Dixie 🐾

Meet Billie – Big, Bashful, and Ready to Bloom 🌱

Billie is a 2-year-old, 41-pound Shiba mix with soulful eyes and a gentle spirit. He’s currently learning how to be a beloved family dog after spending his early years in a commercial breeding facility that recently shut down. Now safe in foster care in Jonesburg, MO, Billie is beginning to experience a world filled with kindness, tasty meals, and soft places to rest his head.

🐾 A Gentle Giant in Progress
Right now, Billie prefers to hang back and observe. Human affection is still new and a little scary, but the smell of dinner? Irresistible. Food is helping him forget his fear, one delicious bite at a time. He's shy, but he's also smart—he figured out how to escape his crate on day one! (Don’t worry, he’s now living the ex-pen life and doing just fine.)

🐶 Low-Key with Other Dogs
Billie coexists peacefully with the other dogs in his foster home—just don’t crowd him, and he’ll offer the same respect in return. He may warm up to gentle dog friends over time, but he’s more of a “roommate” than a “playmate” for now.

🚫 No Kids, Please
Loud noises and quick movements make Billie nervous, so a quiet, adults-only home is a must. He hasn’t met any cats, but his cautious nature suggests he’d rather not have any small critters in his space.

🏡 Looking for a Calm, Patient Home
Billie is looking for adopters who:

Have experience with shy or fearful dogs

Can provide a securely fenced yard (since leash walks are still a scary concept)

Will offer time, patience, and understanding as he learns that the world isn’t such a scary place

💉 Billie is neutered, vaccinated, and healthy—he’s just waiting for the right people to help him feel safe, loved, and at home.

If you live in the Midwest and have room in your heart and home for a shy sweetheart with tons of potential, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply and become an approved SIRA adopter. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with Billie’s foster mom to set up a meet-and-greet.

Help Billie learn that being loved feels really, really good. ❤️
