Hi, I’m Dixie!

I’m a 4-year-old, 17-pound little lady looking for my forever home. Life started out a bit rough for me, but thanks to my foster family in Jonesburg, MO, I’m learning what it means to feel safe and loved. I might be shy and scared at first, but here’s a tip—freeze-dried beef liver treats are the way to my heart!

I’m a curious and clever girl who loves playing keep-away in the yard. Back when I first arrived, foster mom couldn’t catch me, even with a drag leash! But now, I’ve learned that it’s okay to let her approach and pick me up—it even feels kind of nice. Exploring the fenced yard is one of my favorite things, and I’ve even had fun bonding with another Shiba here. She found her forever home, and foster mom says I’m next in line!

I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated—ready to start this exciting new chapter with a family who understands me. My perfect home will have patient humans experienced with shy, fearful dogs and another friendly resident dog to help me feel safe and confident. A securely fenced yard is a must for me to explore and play while I continue building trust.

I’m still working on leash skills, so I’ll need someone willing to help me gain confidence there. I’m good with cats but would do best in a calm home without little kids—they’re just a bit too overwhelming for me.

If you’re in the Midwest and ready to help a shy, sweet girl blossom, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet. Don’t forget those liver treats!

Wags and love,

Meet Tina – Tiny, Sassy, and Full of Love!

I’m Tina, a 7-year-old, 14-pound firecracker looking for my forever home! Life started rough in a commercial breeding facility, so when I first arrived at my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, I acted tough. But with patience and love, I realized—I’m SAFE! One day, it just clicked, and I ran straight to my foster mom for love. Now, my silly, playful side is here to stay!

I’m potty trained, keep myself busy “murdering” squeaky toys, and always demand attention before heading outside. I get along with most dogs but sometimes play too hard and don’t take a hint when my friends are done. And there’s one dog, Dixie—yeah, we don’t see eye to eye. Cats? I don’t mind them!

I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated. My ideal home? Adults only, with a securely fenced yard where I can zoom around. My new family should be mindful of open doors—Shibas are sneaky escape artists! I’m still learning leash skills, but I’ll get the hang of it with practice.

If you're in the Midwest and want a tiny pup with a BIG personality, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Let’s meet—I promise to keep you entertained!

My name is Venus and I'm looking for my forever home! If you follow SIRA, you've met some of my brothers. Our mama is a Shiba rescued by SIRA as a stray with us in her belly! SIRA learned that our father was a Beagle/Coonhound mix. We were born in October and I came to my foster home here in Sussex, WI, once I was weaned. I'm a healthy, happy, fun-loving girl - spayed, vaccinated and almost house trained. I weigh 19.5 lbs and will likely get a bit bigger. I have a soft, silky coat. I love other dogs and I'm good with cats and small pets. I like little kids, but I'm still learning manners, so supervision is good. Meeting new people makes me nervous, but I warm up quickly. I might forget being shy after a few treats. And when I play I'm fearless! I love going for walks and being outside. I am very curious and love to sniff or grab leaves or sticks and run around - or chasing robins! My favorite toys are my stuffed lambs. I will carry them around in my mouth and wimper. I'm a good girl when my foster family leaves the house. It helps that there are other animals here to keep me company. I might whine at first when I go into my crate, but I settle quickly. I have a polite bark - unless you have peanut butter or whipped cream, and then I speak up!!! I love affection - especially snuggling with the humans under the covers. Like most puppies, I'm active and energetic and get the zoomies sometimes. I'm smart and already know some commands. I have some typical Shiba traints - I screamed very first Shiba scream when foster mom trimmed my nails (so traumatic!) My perfect forever home would spend time with me, on walks and playing. I'd love another nice dog to play with. My forever family should be careful around open doors or gates, so I don't zoom out chasing a robin. I'd love a window to watch out of and a soft bed to lie in. If you live in the Midwest and want a smart, affectionate, curious girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more info and to apply to become an approved adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Hi there, I’m Diesel!

I’m a 5-year-old, 33-pound bundle of love looking for my forever home! Life has been a big adventure lately—I’ve traded my past in a commercial breeding facility for a fresh start with my foster family in Fenton, MO. It’s all new to me, and I’m still getting used to home life. Loud noises and sudden movements can spook me, but I’m making progress every day.

At heart, I’m a total loverboy. I adore couch snuggles and soaking up affection from my foster family. But my absolute favorite thing? Playing outdoors! A securely fenced yard where I can run and leap freely is a must—I’m happiest when I can stretch my legs and feel the wind in my fur.

Indoors, I’m quiet, house-trained, and well-behaved. I even sleep peacefully through the night in my crate! I’m still learning the ropes of leash walking, so I’ll need a patient family to help me master this new skill.

I haven’t spent time around kids yet, but I’d do best in a calm, quiet home without small children. I get along well with other dogs and even cats, though I mostly just keep to myself. While I’d love a doggy friend, I’d also thrive as the only pet in a home where my humans have time to give me lots of love and playtime.

I’m neutered, vaccinated, and healthy, ready to start this next chapter of my life with a family who understands my need for patience and safety.

If you live in the Midwest and think we could be a great match, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply and start the process. Once approved, you’ll get to meet me through my foster mom—I can’t wait!

Wags and cuddles,
Diesel 🐾

Hi there, I’m Carlee!

I’m a 7-year-old Shiba Inu with a big smile and an even bigger heart, ready to find my forever home! I’m currently living my best foster life in Jonesburg, MO, where I’ve discovered the pure joy of a big, fenced yard. It’s my personal racetrack—I’m the queen of zoomies!

While I’m still learning to fully trust humans, I’m making great progress every day. Couch cuddles? Yes, please! I’m warming up to the good life, but I’d thrive in a patient, quiet home where I can settle in at my own pace.

I’d love to have another dog in my forever home—other pups make me feel safe and help me adjust. Cats are cool, but no small kiddos for me, please—they’re just a bit too overwhelming for my style.

I’m spayed, vaccinated, healthy, and ready for my Midwest adventure! If you’ve got a cozy home with a yard to explore and room in your heart for a sweet Shiba girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com to learn more and apply.

Meet Otis – The Snuggly, Silly, Lover Boy!
Hi, I’m Otis! I’m 1 year old, 15 pounds, and full of love! I may be small, but my personality is BIG. I came to my foster home in O'Fallon, Missouri from a commercial breeding facility, and I’m loving life in a real home. I can be shy at first—I'll bark and run from strangers—but once I warm up, get ready for tail wags, airplane ears, kisses, and snuggles!

Foster mom calls me goofy—maybe it’s the funny noises I make when I want attention or the way I prance around with a toy in my mouth. If another dog is getting pets, I’ll make my case that it should be MEEEE instead! I get along great with small dogs but can be territorial with big ones. Cats? I pretty much ignore them.

I’m a smart boy learning commands and routines. At bedtime, foster mom says, “come here!” and I roll over for belly rubs—it’s our favorite game! I’m still working on leash walking, but we’re practicing. Truthfully, I’m more of an indoor snuggle bug anyway.

I’m healthy, vaccinated, and soon to be neutered (this week eeek!). I do have luxating patella (loose kneecaps), which doesn’t slow me down now, but I might need surgery in the future. My ideal home has a securely fenced yard and a patient family who understands shy dogs and will continue my training.

If you live in the Midwest and want a sweet, snuggly pup like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply! Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet. I can’t wait!

Meet Ophelia – The Sweet & Sneaky Shiba! 🐾

Ophelia is a 2-year-old, 20-lb sweetheart who’s still learning what it means to be a family dog—and she’s loving it! 💕 She started life in a commercial breeding facility, so she can be a bit shy at first, but once she warms up, she’s all about cuddles, curiosity, and adventure in Smithville, MO.

🌟 Shy but affectionate – loves to snuggle with her foster sister
🌟 Great with kids – watches their antics with interest
🌟 Calm indoors, potty trained, and kennel trained
🌟 Loves to run in the yard... maybe too much! (Fence-climbing pro! 🧗‍♀️😂)

Ophelia’s perfect home will have experience with shy dogs and a secure fenced yard (no chain-link, please – she’s too smart!). A patient family willing to help her gain confidence on leash walks would be amazing. Another friendly dog to show her the ropes? Bonus points!

If you’re ready to help this clever, lovable girl blossom into her best self, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply! Once approved, SIRA will connect you with her foster mom so you can meet.

Hi there! My name is Fido, and I’m on the lookout for my forever home. I’m a sweet 6-year-old girl, weighing 25 lbs. I came to my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, after the commercial breeding facility I lived in closed down. Life there was hard, and I was really scared of humans at first, but my foster family is kind, and I’m starting to feel braver.

At first, I’d hide in the corner, but now I don’t run away when my foster family comes near. I’m still a bit skittish, especially with loud noises and sudden movements, and I’m not too comfortable going outside on my own, so my foster family carries me. I’ve tried leash walking, but it’s not for me. Still, I’m a good girl—potty trained, spayed, and vaccinated. I’m quiet, and when I’m inside, I hang out in my kennel on my own. I get along with all the dogs and don’t bother the cats.

My perfect forever home would be with a patient family who has experience with shy dogs. I’ll need a securely fenced yard and another nice dog to help me feel safe. My family should be careful with doors because I might bolt if I’m spooked. I’d thrive in a quiet, adults-only home with no shared walls, as I’m easily startled.

Can I share a little dream of mine? I’d love to be adopted with my son Morty—that would be a dream come true!

My name is Merc and I’m looking for my forever home! I came to my foster home here in Evansville, IN, as a stowaway! My mom is a Shiba Inu who was a stray with a belly full of puppies. After we were born in October, SIRA tested us and learned that our dad was a Beagle/Coonhound mix. I am 19 lbs of good boy! I am a calm, laid-back puppy who loves belly rubs and cuddles. I have my goofy side, but I’m mostly just sweet. I am house trained and know how to use a p*e pad if needed. When foster mom g, I am quiet in my crate or playpen. I don’t destroy anything. My favorite thing here is having other dogs to play with and keep me company. I’m gentle and never show aggression to them. There is a cat here and I’m friendly and respectful – I never pester. I like older kids – little kids scare me because I’m not used to them. I love car rides. Foster mom says I’m a smart boy because I have learned commands like “sit” and “lay.” I'm learning about leash walks too! Loud noises outside can scare me, but with practice and a familiar routine, I’ll get the hang of it. I am a healthy boy, neutered and vaccinated. I have a bump on my belly called a histiocytoma. It sounds scary, but it’s harmless and should clear up soon. I had a rough start to life – an infection, kidney problems, and anemia! But I’m healthy now! As a result, I’m calmer than most puppies my age. I’m also shy, like my Shiba mama. New environments and loud noises like thunder scare me. My perfect forever home will have time to spend with me and a securely fenced yard and a nice dog to keep me company. No small kids, please, but older ones are fine. I’ll do best in a home that doesn’t share walls with neighbors, since I can be vocal at mealtime. If you understand shy/skittish dogs, that would be awesome. If you live in the Midwest and want a sweet, snuggly boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet! I’d like that very much.

**Meet Hikari – Your New Best Friend!**

Hi, I’m Hikari! I’m 7 years old, 27 lbs, and on the hunt for my forever home! I came to my foster home in Chicago after my family could no longer care for me, but don’t worry—I’m ready to bring joy to a new family!

I’m a friendly, confident girl who makes friends with everyone. Once I know you, my goofy side comes out! I give *airplane ears* when I’m excited and toss my head when it’s time to eat or go for a walk. Speaking of walks—I *love* them! I have great leash manners, keeping a steady pace (no pulling!) and slowing down to greet my adoring fans.

At home, I’m a well-behaved girl. Whether hanging out in my bed or chilling in my crate, I’m quiet and non-destructive. I’m also super smart—I solve food puzzles in record time (unless they’re *too* tricky, then I just ask for treats instead!). I love attention and will either sit on your feet or lean against you when I’m in the mood for pets.

I enjoy playing with other dogs and *might* do well with a dog-savvy cat. There’s an elderly cat here I’d *love* to play with, but… the feeling isn’t mutual. I also get *very* excited about squirrels and rabbits, so no small pets for me! I haven’t lived with kids, but I let them pet me, so I’d probably do fine with gentle, respectful children.

A securely fenced yard would be amazing, but if my family enjoys walks and playtime, I’d be just as happy. A dog friend would be nice, but I’d also thrive as the only pet if my humans are playful and engaged!

I’m a healthy girl—spayed, vaccinated, and feeling great! I do have mild skin allergies, so I take a daily Apoquel pill and get my paws cleaned twice a week. I *used* to have a small heart defect (VSD), but my cardiologist says it closed on its own—no meds or special care needed, just regular vet checkups!

If you live in the Midwest and want a friendly, fun-loving girl like me in your life, visit [www.savingshibas.com/adopt](http://www.savingshibas.com/adopt) to apply! Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet. I can’t wait!

Hi there! I’m Akika, a 4-year-old, 20 lb. bundle of fun, and I’m on the hunt for my forever home! I may be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up, I’m the sweetest, silliest girl around. I came to my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, from a commercial breeding facility, and now that my pups are grown, I’m ready for my own family!

I’ve got the typical Shiba spirit—full of opinions and not afraid to share them. I can be cautious with new people, but once I trust you, I’ll be running up for all the love and attention! I love playing with toys and other dogs, and though I sometimes try to chase the cat here, I mostly leave him alone. I’ve even lived with kids and did great!

I’m learning to walk on a leash, though I can be a bit stubborn (hey, it’s a Shiba thing!). I’m also potty-trained and do well in my kennel when my foster family isn’t home. The vet says that I have a luxating patella (loose kneecap) in one of my knees, but it doesn’t bother me and it’s not serious enough (grade 2) to need surgery at this time. But it’s something to watch as I get older.

My ideal forever home would have another dog for me to play with and patient humans who understand it might take me some time to trust. A house with no shared walls would be best since I can be vocal. I have a mild luxating patella, but it doesn’t slow me down!

28/03/2025

My name is Mars and I’m looking for my forever home. I was born in October, so I’m still a puppy. I weigh 21 lbs and am a bundle of energy! Yeah, I'm cute, aren't I? I’m a Shiba mix and I live in my foster home in Columbus, OH. My mother was a Shiba who was found as a stray with a belly full of puppies! SIRA did a DNA test and learned that our dad was a Beagle mix. I’m great with other dogs, especially if they love to run and jump and play like I do. I’ve never met a cat, but I bet I’d be curious and would want to play. I’ve met human kids – little and big - and I love playing with them too! My favorite things to do (besides playing) are getting held, belly rubs, or when I can snuggle up next to foster dad for a nap. Foster dad says I’m really smart! I’m learning how to walk on a leash. I’m not a huge fan of wearing a harness and I’m in that awkward puppy phase, so I’m kind of uncoordinated and distracted by every interesting smell or movement or noise. When foster dad leaves the house, he puts me in my kennel or in a puppy-proof room just so I don’t get into things I’m not supposed to. I’m treat-motivated and will sit and go into my kennel for a treat at bedtime. I’m good in my kennel as long as there is another dog nearby. If I’m by myself, I may sing the song of my people before settling down. So if your home shares walls with neighbors, I may not be the best fit. I’m working on potty training. I can be inconsistent, so I do best when I’m on a very regular schedule. I’m a healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated. I’m not at all skittish. I LOVE food and will over-indulge if given the chance. I am very curious about new things and can solve a new treat puzzle in no time! So far, I like sticking close to my foster dad and the other dogs here – I haven’t shown the typical Shiba urge to escape on an adventure. If you live in the Midwest and want a happy-go-lucky love-bug like me to be your bff, visit //www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster dad so we can meet! Hooray!

Hi! I'm Jewel, a sweet 6-year-old girl looking for my forever home. I came from a commercial breeding facility, and while my foster home in Jonesburg, MO is a big change, I’m so happy that life is behind me.

I’m a quiet, well-behaved dog, and my favorite thing is being around other dogs—they make me feel safe. I’m shy and not too sure about humans yet, but I’ve started to relax and play when they’re not looking! Cats don’t bother me, and I’m fine when left alone, but I prefer when people give me space.

I’m 28 lbs, spayed, vaccinated, and in good health, though I did have a bad reaction to anesthesia during my spay surgery, so no future anesthesia for me if possible.

My perfect home will need to be patient and understanding, with another dog to help me feel comfortable. A quiet, adults-only home with a securely fenced yard (and no shared walls) is best. No children, please—they scare me. If you have experience with shy dogs, that’s a plus!

If you live in the Midwest and can offer me a peaceful place to call home, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Let’s meet soon!

27/03/2025

Kita is a beautiful 8-year-old Shiba Inu who has a difficult past. Because of this, she's distrustful of humans. Honestly we can't blame her.
Kita is a smart girl & a polite house guest. She loves her pack members & ignores the kitties in the home. Her favorite thing to do is sunbathe in the yard & play with the other dogs (when she thinks the humans can't see her). She is a sucker for cheese & enjoys calmer walks with the other dogs around for guidance.
Her ideal home looks something like this:
✅ ️Patient people who understand that she's likely not going to be a lapdog, but that's okay!
✅️ Relatively calm/predictable home (no young kids - they scare her)
✅️ Another dog or two
✅️ Fenced yard
She wouldn't be compatible with:
🚫 Young kids (sudden loud noises/movements are frightening)
🚫 Someone who doesn't understand puppy mill survivor behavior

If you're interested in Kita, you can learn more about her & fill out an application at www.savingshibas.com

I'm Foxie Girl, a 7-year-old, 32-pound sweetheart looking for my forever home. I spent my early years in a commercial breeding facility, where humans were scary. Now, I'm in a loving foster home in Jonesburg, MO, learning to trust and enjoy life.

I'm shy, but with the kindness and patience of my foster parents, I'm starting to relax and show my true self. I love exploring the fenced yard and playing with the other dogs here—they make me feel safe. I'm even okay with the resident cats and learning to walk on a leash!

I'm looking for a forever home with a securely fenced yard and a resident dog to help me adjust. Cats are fine, but no small kids, please—they're a bit too much for me. Health-wise, I'm spayed, vaccinated, and have a grade 2 heart murmur, which doesn’t need treatment.

25/03/2025

My name is Milly and I’m looking for my forever home! I will be 13 in July, so I’ve been around the block a time or two, but I’ve stillgot lots of s***k and love and life and opinions left! What I’m looking for is simple: someone to love and take me for walks and rub my belly. I’d love a soft place to snooze and a window to sunbathe in and watch the world go by. I’m a lovebug and well-behaved in the house. I’m fully potty trained and not destructive. I may be small – only 15 lbs - but I’m not afraid to express my opinion (if you want to see my Drama Queen mode, try to trim my nails!). I came from a home where everything was fine until a tiny little human came along. This little human needed lots of attention from my people. The squealy, screamy noises and sudden movements and grabby hands freaked me out! My family tried to keep us separated, but they realized that I was sad. It wasn’t fair to me or to the little human, since we both needed love and attention. So that’s how I came to my foster home here in Chicago. I was scared at first of all the new things. There are other dogs here and I let them know right away that I wasn’t a push-over. While there were a few spats at first, things settled down once I got to know and trust them. I still get growly when I worry that they might take my food. But I like it here – I love going for walks in the neighborhood and curling up in bed at night with my foster mom. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small children (older, calm, respectful kids are fine). I haven’t lived with cats or small pets, but I like to chase squirrels and bunnies outside, so they might not be the best fit. Loud noises and lots of activity can make me nervous. If there are other dogs in the house, gradual supervised introductions would be best. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet and snuggly companion like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!
