Meet Franklin!

This little guy is a social butterfly with other dogs. He loves to play, wrestle, and snuggle up with his furry friends in Bloomington, IL. Franklin sometimes struggles to pick up on social cues from dogs who aren’t as interested in playing, but he’s learning! He’s even met a cat and did great—curious but polite. With a dog-savvy cat, he could do well in a home that includes feline friends.

When it comes to humans, Franklin is more selective. Small children under five terrify him, and he will run and hide. Older, calm, and quiet kids are okay, though his jumpy excitement might make him better suited for homes without toddlers.

Franklin loves going on walks and exploring the world on a leash, sniffing everything in sight. At home, he’s made huge progress when left alone. While he used to cry and scream, he now sits quietly in his crate and waits patiently for his people to return. That said, his excitement upon reuniting can sometimes lead to some vocal enthusiasm and playful mouthing.

Potty-trained and food-motivated, he’s goofy, affectionate, and loves playing fetch with toys or tennis balls in a securely fenced yard. Because Franklin is a door-bolter, his forever family will need to be experienced in preventing escapes and keeping him safe. Belly rubs are always welcome, and he adores snuggling with humans and other dogs alike. His playful personality includes evening zoomies and a heartwarming nightly routine: around 7:30, he’ll curl up with anyone—human or dog—for a cuddle session before settling in his kennel for bed.

Franklin does have some special considerations due to a ventricular septal defect (VSD). Despite his grade 4 heart murmur diagnosis, cardiologists say he can live a normal life with yearly monitoring. He should avoid overheating but otherwise can enjoy regular activity like any healthy dog.

If you’re ready to give Franklin the loving, patient home he deserves, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply and start the process of meeting this sweet, silly boy. Franklin is eager to find his forever family—maybe it’s you!

Kita is a beautiful 8-year-old Shiba Inu who has a difficult past. Because of this, she's distrustful of humans. Honestly we can't blame her.
Kita is a smart girl & a polite house guest. She loves her pack members & ignores the kitties in the home. Her favorite thing to do is sunbathe in the yard & play with the other dogs (when she thinks the humans can't see her). She is a sucker for cheese & enjoys calmer walks with the other dogs around for guidance.
Her ideal home looks something like this:
✅ ️Patient people who understand that she's likely not going to be a lapdog, but that's okay!
✅️ Relatively calm/predictable home (no young kids - they scare her)
✅️ Another dog or two
✅️ Fenced yard
She wouldn't be compatible with:
🚫 Young kids (sudden loud noises/movements are frightening)
🚫 Someone who doesn't understand puppy mill survivor behavior

If you're interested in Kita, you can learn more about her & fill out an application at www.savingshibas.com

My name is Hikari and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 7 y.o. and weigh 27 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Chicago after my family could no longer care for me. I’m a friendly and confident girl, who makes friends with everyone. Once I get to know you, my goofy side comes out! I’ll give airplane ears when I'm excited to see you, and toss my head when it’s time to eat or go for a walk. I love walks and have good leash manners. I keep a steady pace with no pulling. I do slow down to say hi to everyone. I’m a good girl indoors and hang out in my bed or crate when home alone. I’m not loud or destructive. I’m smart and love learning new skills – especially for treats! I figure out food puzzles in no time! (Well, I get impatient if they’re super hard). I like attention and will sit on your feet when I want pets or lay with my back against you for companionship. I like playing with other dogs. I don’t have much experience with cats. There is an elderly cat here who really want to play with. Unfortunately, the cat doesn’t feel the same way about me, so foster mom keeps us apart. She thinks I might do well with a dog-savvy cat. I try to chase squirrels and rabbits outside, so I shouldn't live with small pets. I haven’t lived with children, but I let them pet me, so I’d probably do fine with nice kids. I’d love a securely fenced yard to play in or a family who likes going for walks as much as I do. A dog friend would be nice, but if my family likes to play, that would be fine. I’m healthy – spayed and vaccinated. I have skin allergies and I take a daily Apoquel pill and foster mom cleans my paws with medicated shampoo twice a week. I used to have a small hole in my heart (a Ventricular Septal Defect/VSD), but I just got the all-clear from a cardiologist that it closed on its own. I won’t need medication or special care, just routine vet check-ups to make sure it sounds normal. If you live in the Midwest and want a social butterfly like me as your bff, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’d be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Hi there! I’m Akika, a 4-year-old, 20 lb. bundle of fun, and I’m on the hunt for my forever home! I may be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up, I’m the sweetest, silliest girl around. I came to my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, from a commercial breeding facility, and now that my pups are grown, I’m ready for my own family!

I’ve got the typical Shiba spirit—full of opinions and not afraid to share them. I can be cautious with new people, but once I trust you, I’ll be running up for all the love and attention! I love playing with toys and other dogs, and though I sometimes try to chase the cat here, I mostly leave him alone. I’ve even lived with kids and did great!

I’m learning to walk on a leash, though I can be a bit stubborn (hey, it’s a Shiba thing!). I’m also potty-trained and do well in my kennel when my foster family isn’t home. The vet says that I have a luxating patella (loose kneecap) in one of my knees, but it doesn’t bother me and it’s not serious enough (grade 2) to need surgery at this time. But it’s something to watch as I get older.

My ideal forever home would have another dog for me to play with and patient humans who understand it might take me some time to trust. A house with no shared walls would be best since I can be vocal. I have a mild luxating patella, but it doesn’t slow me down!

If you live in the Midwest and want a fun, happy companion, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Let’s meet soon!

Hi! I'm Jewel, a sweet 6-year-old girl looking for my forever home. I came from a commercial breeding facility, and while my foster home in Jonesburg, MO is a big change, I’m so happy that life is behind me.

I’m a quiet, well-behaved dog, and my favorite thing is being around other dogs—they make me feel safe. I’m shy and not too sure about humans yet, but I’ve started to relax and play when they’re not looking! Cats don’t bother me, and I’m fine when left alone, but I prefer when people give me space.

I’m 28 lbs, spayed, vaccinated, and in good health, though I did have a bad reaction to anesthesia during my spay surgery, so no future anesthesia for me if possible.

My perfect home will need to be patient and understanding, with another dog to help me feel comfortable. A quiet, adults-only home with a securely fenced yard (and no shared walls) is best. No children, please—they scare me. If you have experience with shy dogs, that’s a plus!

If you live in the Midwest and can offer me a peaceful place to call home, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Let’s meet soon!

I'm Foxie Girl, a 7-year-old, 32-pound sweetheart looking for my forever home. I spent my early years in a commercial breeding facility, where humans were scary. Now, I'm in a loving foster home in Jonesburg, MO, learning to trust and enjoy life.

I'm shy, but with the kindness and patience of my foster parents, I'm starting to relax and show my true self. I love exploring the fenced yard and playing with the other dogs here—they make me feel safe. I'm even okay with the resident cats and learning to walk on a leash!

I'm looking for a forever home with a securely fenced yard and a resident dog to help me adjust. Cats are fine, but no small kids, please—they're a bit too much for me. Health-wise, I'm spayed, vaccinated, and have a grade 2 heart murmur, which doesn’t need treatment.

If you're in the Midwest and want a pretty, sweet, shy girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application helps SIRA ensure we'll be a perfect match. Once approved, you'll get to meet my foster mom and me!

Meet Penny: A Sweet and Shy Soul Looking for Her Forever Home. Currently fostered in Davenport, IA

Penny is a 7-year-old, 18-pound Shiba Inu who’s as unique as she is adorable! While she’s still learning to embrace the world around her, Penny has a gentle heart and loves being part of the pack—especially if it includes other dogs.

🌧️ Rain Lover Extraordinaire 🌧️
Penny isn’t your typical dog who loves lounging in the backyard. She’s all business when it comes to potty breaks, heading back inside quickly—unless it’s raining! For reasons only she knows, Penny enjoys the rain and will happily linger outside longer than usual. While baths aren’t her favorite, she seems to find something magical about those rainy days.

🐾 Walking Buddy in the Making 🐾
Penny enjoys quiet walks at parks or on trails but can get a little nervous near busy streets. With patience and positive experiences, she’s sure to grow more confident on her leash adventures.

🏡 House Manners 🏡
This girl is fully house-trained and has excellent indoor manners. Whether she’s enjoying free run of the house or curling up in bed with her humans, Penny sleeps peacefully through the night. She’s also comfortable in her kennel when needed.

👶 Shy Around Little Ones 👶
Penny can be skittish around children, especially younger ones. A calm and quiet home without young kids would be ideal for her as she builds trust with her forever family.

🐕 Dog-Loving Sweetheart 🐕
Penny adores other dogs and lights up when she’s around them. She’d do wonderfully in a home with a confident resident dog to help her feel at ease. She hasn’t been tested with cats, her cautious nature around small animals like squirrels suggests she’d likely prefer a home without feline friends.

Penny is a healthy, spayed, and vaccinated girl who’s ready to find a patient, loving home that will give her the time and understanding she needs to blossom. If you’re looking for a gentle soul to share your life with—and don’t mind a little rain—you just might be Penny’s perfect match!

Ready to meet Penny? Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to learn more and apply to adopt her. Let’s make this sweet girl’s dreams come true!

Hello,

My name is Ranger, and I'm on the lookout for my forever home! Allow me to share a bit about myself and what I'm looking for in my perfect family.

At 2 years old and weighing 20 lbs, I've had quite the journey to find a loving home. Unfortunately, my past was rough, as I was abandoned by a commercial breeder and left with some painful injuries. However, thanks to the caring folks at SIRA and my wonderful foster family, life has taken a turn for the better.

Since arriving at my foster home, I've experienced nothing but kindness and care. I was cautious at first, understandably so, but gradually, I've started to reveal my silly and playful side. I adore playing with toys, wrestling with other dogs, and indulging in delicious treats – especially those beef liver treats, they're the best!

Despite my past challenges, I'm a smart and good boy in my foster home. Leash training has been a bit tough for me due to my sensitivity, but my foster parents are helping me adjust to a step-in harness, which feels more comfortable. Thus, a securely fenced yard will be essential for me to explore, play, and do my business comfortably.

For my forever home, I'm seeking a family who understands shy and fearful dogs, as I continue to build trust and confidence. While I enjoy the company of other dogs and thrive in their presence, I'm not suited for a home with small children, as they can be overwhelming for me.

I'm a healthy boy with immense potential, and I'm currently being fostered in Jonesboro, MO. If you reside in the Midwest and are seeking a handsome, loving companion like me, please consider visiting www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process.

Your understanding and patience are key as I continue to blossom and adjust to a life filled with love and kindness. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom, and hopefully, we can meet and start our journey together.

Thank you for considering me as a part of your family.

Warm regards,
Ranger 🐾

Hi, I’m Dixie!

I’m a 4-year-old, 17-pound little lady looking for my forever home. Life started out a bit rough for me, but thanks to my foster family in Jonesburg, MO, I’m learning what it means to feel safe and loved. I might be shy and scared at first, but here’s a tip—freeze-dried beef liver treats are the way to my heart!

I’m a curious and clever girl who loves playing keep-away in the yard. Back when I first arrived, foster mom couldn’t catch me, even with a drag leash! But now, I’ve learned that it’s okay to let her approach and pick me up—it even feels kind of nice. Exploring the fenced yard is one of my favorite things, and I’ve even had fun bonding with another Shiba here. She found her forever home, and foster mom says I’m next in line!

I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated—ready to start this exciting new chapter with a family who understands me. My perfect home will have patient humans experienced with shy, fearful dogs and another friendly resident dog to help me feel safe and confident. A securely fenced yard is a must for me to explore and play while I continue building trust.

I’m still working on leash skills, so I’ll need someone willing to help me gain confidence there. I’m good with cats but would do best in a calm home without little kids—they’re just a bit too overwhelming for me.

If you’re in the Midwest and ready to help a shy, sweet girl blossom, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet. Don’t forget those liver treats!

Wags and love,
Dixie 🐾

Hi there, I’m Diesel!

I’m a 5-year-old, 33-pound bundle of love looking for my forever home! Life has been a big adventure lately—I’ve traded my past in a commercial breeding facility for a fresh start with my foster family in Fenton, MO. It’s all new to me, and I’m still getting used to home life. Loud noises and sudden movements can spook me, but I’m making progress every day.

At heart, I’m a total loverboy. I adore couch snuggles and soaking up affection from my foster family. But my absolute favorite thing? Playing outdoors! A securely fenced yard where I can run and leap freely is a must—I’m happiest when I can stretch my legs and feel the wind in my fur.

Indoors, I’m quiet, house-trained, and well-behaved. I even sleep peacefully through the night in my crate! I’m still learning the ropes of leash walking, so I’ll need a patient family to help me master this new skill.

I haven’t spent time around kids yet, but I’d do best in a calm, quiet home without small children. I get along well with other dogs and even cats, though I mostly just keep to myself. While I’d love a doggy friend, I’d also thrive as the only pet in a home where my humans have time to give me lots of love and playtime.

I’m neutered, vaccinated, and healthy, ready to start this next chapter of my life with a family who understands my need for patience and safety.

If you live in the Midwest and think we could be a great match, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply and start the process. Once approved, you’ll get to meet me through my foster mom—I can’t wait!

My name is Otis and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 1 y.o. and a lover boy! I weigh 15 lbs - okay, I’m small, but I pack a lot of personality into my little self! I came to my foster home here in Kansas City from a commercial breeding facility. I like living in a home with a family! I am shy at first – and will bark and run away from strangers. But once I get used to you, I’ll give you tail wags and airplane ears and lots of kisses and snuggles! Foster mom says I’m goofy. I think it’s because of all the funny sounds I make when I want attention. If one of the other dogs is getting petted, I will make my case that it should be MEEEE instead! Or maybe it's the way I prance around the room with a toy in my mouth whenever she comes in. I get along with dogs that are my size. But big dogs? Well, let’s just say that I get very territorial. I’m good with cats - pretty much just leave them alone. I’m vaccinated and I’m going to be neutered. I’m a healthy boy except I’ve got bad knees. My knee caps are loose – I was born with something called luxating patella. It doesn’t stop me from running really fast. The vet says I don’t need surgery yet, but I might in the future. I’m a smart boy – learning commands and new routines. Like when foster mom calls me over for bedtime. As soon as she says “come here!” I roll over for belly rubs! It’s our favorite game. I get belly rubs and then she picks me up and puts me in my kennel. I’m learning to walk on a leash, but it’s a work in progress. Foster mom promises we’ll keep practicing. I’m not the outdoorsy type anyway. My perfect forever family will have a securely fenced yard and be very careful around open doors, since I’m fast and Shibas are escape artists. It will help if they understand shy dogs. My forever family should be patient, since I’m still a puppy, and continue my training so I'll be a well-behaved adult. If you live in the Midwest and want a snuggly boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to be an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Meet Tina – Tiny, Sassy, and Full of Love!

I’m Tina, a 7-year-old, 14-pound firecracker looking for my forever home! Life started rough in a commercial breeding facility, so when I first arrived at my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, I acted tough. But with patience and love, I realized—I’m SAFE! One day, it just clicked, and I ran straight to my foster mom for love. Now, my silly, playful side is here to stay!

I’m potty trained, keep myself busy “murdering” squeaky toys, and always demand attention before heading outside. I get along with most dogs but sometimes play too hard and don’t take a hint when my friends are done. And there’s one dog, Dixie—yeah, we don’t see eye to eye. Cats? I don’t mind them!

I’m healthy, spayed, and vaccinated. My ideal home? Adults only, with a securely fenced yard where I can zoom around. My new family should be mindful of open doors—Shibas are sneaky escape artists! I’m still learning leash skills, but I’ll get the hang of it with practice.

If you're in the Midwest and want a tiny pup with a BIG personality, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Let’s meet—I promise to keep you entertained!

Love, Tina 🐾

Hi there, I’m Carlee!

I’m a 7-year-old Shiba Inu with a big smile and an even bigger heart, ready to find my forever home! I’m currently living my best foster life in Jonesburg, MO, where I’ve discovered the pure joy of a big, fenced yard. It’s my personal racetrack—I’m the queen of zoomies!

While I’m still learning to fully trust humans, I’m making great progress every day. Couch cuddles? Yes, please! I’m warming up to the good life, but I’d thrive in a patient, quiet home where I can settle in at my own pace.

I’d love to have another dog in my forever home—other pups make me feel safe and help me adjust. Cats are cool, but no small kiddos for me, please—they’re just a bit too overwhelming for my style.

I’m spayed, vaccinated, healthy, and ready for my Midwest adventure! If you’ve got a cozy home with a yard to explore and room in your heart for a sweet Shiba girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com to learn more and apply.

Can’t wait to meet you!

Tail wags and smiles,

Hi there! My name is Fido, and I’m on the lookout for my forever home. I’m a sweet 6-year-old girl, weighing 25 lbs. I came to my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, after the commercial breeding facility I lived in closed down. Life there was hard, and I was really scared of humans at first, but my foster family is kind, and I’m starting to feel braver.

At first, I’d hide in the corner, but now I don’t run away when my foster family comes near. I’m still a bit skittish, especially with loud noises and sudden movements, and I’m not too comfortable going outside on my own, so my foster family carries me. I’ve tried leash walking, but it’s not for me. Still, I’m a good girl—potty trained, spayed, and vaccinated. I’m quiet, and when I’m inside, I hang out in my kennel on my own. I get along with all the dogs and don’t bother the cats.

My perfect forever home would be with a patient family who has experience with shy dogs. I’ll need a securely fenced yard and another nice dog to help me feel safe. My family should be careful with doors because I might bolt if I’m spooked. I’d thrive in a quiet, adults-only home with no shared walls, as I’m easily startled.

Can I share a little dream of mine? I’d love to be adopted with my son Morty—that would be a dream come true!

If you live in the Midwest and want to open your heart to a sweet, shy girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!
