Last call for the AHC "Buzz Off" survey - we will be closing it out the end of this weekend!

Bug season is here! And we want to know, how do you make flies and ticks “buzz off”? 🪰

There are Federal Regulations in the works that may limit what products we can use to keep our horses and donkeys insect-free. So be the flea in our ear and make a beeline for this 1-minute survey to let us know how we can best advocate for your needs. The survey closes on July 31.

For those equestrians hitting the trails, please keep an eye out and report any ALB infestations.

“August is an ideal time of year to look for the beetle and the damage it causes,” said Josie Ryan, APHIS’ National Operations Manager for the ALB Eradication Program. “Adult beetles are emerging now. You can see them on trees and other nearby items. Finding and reporting infested trees early means we can save more trees.”

During the months of July and August, three AAEP-member veterinarians will be selected for recognition in a Win, Place and Show order. A grand prize winner will be honored during the 2024 AAEP Convention in Orlando, FL, Dec. 7-11.

Submit Equine Educational Resources for Updated Source Book Directory of Equine Educational Resources 👉🐎

The latest trend is to resurrect things that were once considered new. Considering that trend, two esteemed equine institutions are bringing back a vital piece of informative material to assist the equine industry.

The American Horse Council (AHC) and American Youth Horse Council (AYHC) have joined forces to recreate a directory of equine educational resources known as “The Source Book.”

Originally published in 1999, the AYHC’s Source Book included a list of brochures, CDs, publications, and other educational material focusing on the equine industry. Since then, technology has delivered a wider variety of resources that now include online learning platforms, podcasts, e-publications, and more. With so much information, that can honestly be a little mind-boggling, it was time to refresh and bring back “The Source Book.”

A new film coming soon about the miracles, mystery, and science of healing with horses. Rescued Hearts Film

"I once witnessed a miracle when a 7-year-old diagnosed with autism spoke his very first words while interacting with a horse, and it forever changed my life.

After hearing countless stories of people who have experienced miraculous transformations in the presence of horses, I began to wonder, "Why are horses so healing to humans and what are they here to teach us?"

My partner, Krisanna, and I are award-winning filmmakers, and together we are embarking on a journey to better understand the horse-human connection.

Our film will share powerful stories from those who have experienced incredible transformations and those who have dedicated their lives to equine-assisted work. We'll highlight researchers who can speak to why this connection is so powerful and share tools to help us access our healing power within.

Rescued Hearts isn't just the story of horses; it's the story of all of us and the power that lies within to create healing and transformation in our lives. - Dana Croschere, Producer

A Special Message on this July 4th from AHC President, Julie Broadway:

Birthdays, after a certain age, are less about the cake and candles and more about assessment and reflection. Accomplishments and disappointments are examined, hopefully pointing a path forward toward more of the former and less of the latter.

You might find this a rather somber open to an essay on the occasion of our common birthday – Independence Day. Be assured there is much to celebrate. There will be parades all across the nation. In many instances, the celebrations will be led and attended by a faithful, brave, and spirited four-legged partner: the horse. It is on this point that we would like to reflect upon this year.

Over the course of 248 birthdays, from George Washington’s horse Nelson riding fearlessly into Revolutionary war battles to providing honors to the fallen at Arlington Cemetery, horses have been woven into this country’s history.

Horses have tilled our land for food and provided transport from everything from postal services to operational partners in times of war. As the nation evolved so did the role of the horse. The transition from physical labor — using horsepower to leisure activities — marked a significant shift in our relationship with these magnificent creatures. Consequently, the discussion around them has shifted from what horses need to do to support the rider or the spectator to what we need to do to support the horse.

Want to have your say on how a government regulation is developed and implemented?

Sign up for public training sessions on how to participate in the federal rulemaking process. The trainings will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM ET and Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM ET.

These instructional briefings are offered by the Small Business Administration’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA)

The training will focus on how members of the public can meet with OIRA during OIRA’s review of draft proposed and final rules. At the training sessions, OIRA will describe how members of the public may request and schedule a meeting; the format of meetings; what type of information or input is most helpful; and what makes for an effective presentation.

Information to access the virtual training sessions will be provided upon registration. Members of the public may register by sending an email to [email protected], noting the session they would like to attend.

See the Office of Advocacy’s Regulatory Alert on this topic at OIRA Announces Public Training on Participating in the Rulemaking Process – SBA's Office of Advocacy.

On June 17, 2024, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) announced that it would be holding two public training sessions on how to be a part of the federal rulemaking process. The trainings will be held on July 9, 2024, from 3:00 PM

We need your Voice to be heard!📢📣

A provision to help seasonal businesses access additional legal, guest workers was removed from an appropriations bill. This provision had bipartisan support. It is intended to expedite the process of accessing supplemental visas and provide certainty to help seasonal businesses plan their workflow. It does NOT provide a pathway to citizenship.

Send a message to your Representative and Congressional leaders via “X” (formerly Twitter) or other social media:

"Set the record straight on H-2B! Stop the misinformation. The H-2B program benefits U.S. workers (each H-2B worker supports 4.64 US jobs), fights illegal migration, and fills seasonal jobs for the equine industry. The H-2B program contributes to a stronger U.S. economy and a better quality of life."

You can find their X handles at: https://pressgallery.house.gov/member-data/members-official-twitter-handles.

On your tweets you can also include:

Speaker Mike Johnson
Congressman Steve Scalise
Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, Majority Whip
Jim Jordan
Michael Burgess

If you prefer to call or use a different social platform, you can look up your Representative at www.house.gov. Type in your Zip Code and it will match you to your congressional district and link you to your Member’s Website and contact page.

Juneteenth honors their resilience and marks a pivotal moment in our nation's history towards equality. Let's commemorate this day with reflection, education, and a commitment to justice for all.

In the 1944 movie National Velvet, then-12-year-old Elizabeth Taylor played the character Velvet Brown, who won a horse in a raffle and went on to fulfill racing dreams. Classic books such as My Friend Flicka and Misty of Chincoteague — as well as multitudes of more recent ones — also portray the incredible bond between humans and the horses they love.

Not all horses go on to win races and bring fame to their owners. Many live their entire lives simply as beloved companions. And that’s what art director Derry Noyes wanted to capture in the new release of the Horses Forever® stamps.
