Several weeks ago, I put an entry at the Point Pedro police station seeking justice for a puppy who was bought by someone in Colombo through a popular online trading site in Sri Lanka. The puppy was a young doberman pup bought from a breeding kennel in Jaffna whose ads indicated that transport can be arranged if needed.
The pup was put in a box in a lorry and sent to Colombo. The pup was dead on arrival. This is not surprising - how can a young pup or any living thing survive for over 7 hours in a closed box in 30- plus degree heat - even if the box has holes in it?
All the information we had, the breeders information, and the pictures were all given to the police station when I made the entry.
We now know the case will be put to courts, but we need more notice to be taken. Sri Lanka has NO regulations with regard to breeding, no licenses, and no policies. So many companion animals die simply because someone wants to make more profit.
If you have been following us for some time now and want to make a change, please help get this case noticed. We don't want it brushed under the rug "because it's just a dog." We will go to Point Pedro and make the statement and follow through, but we need your help.
If we can get the maximum possible penalty for this (Rs. 100/= or three months in jail or BOTH) maybe we can start bringing real change, and this pup will not have died in vain.
Please reach out if you can help by getting the word out or in any other way. Speak to people who know about this. Write about it.
That little puppy died alone in a cardboard box , in tremendous distress 😔 This is a thinking, feeling baby who couldn’t ask for help, who was sold by someone who didnt care - bought by people who didn’t go pick up her up or arrange proper transport.
She died because no one could be bothered to care enough.
Can you care enough to help change this?
