Arctic Rescue Southwest Arctic Rescue Southwest is a rescue for Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, and their mixes. We are located in Randleman NC

Arctic Rescue Southwest (ARSW) was launched with the goal of providing much needed support to the arctic breed community outside of Arctic Rescue's typical reach. ARSW is currently located in Randleman North Carolina. Arctic Rescue, based in Utah, frequently fields requests from other states to take huskies, malamutes and various mixes in need. Verifying the medical needs of these dogs, and arrang

ing transportation up to Utah can be difficult. Having an organization in place to foster and vet these dogs allows us to successfully place more into suitable homes. ARSW focuses primarily on pulling dogs from kill shelters, and educating owners to help dogs stay in homes. We can provide training and advice on dealing with numerous behavioral problems. Our goals are to find our dogs suitable forever homes, and minimize the number of dogs that end up in shelters. If anyone is searching for an important cause to donate to this holiday season, please consider donating to support Schumacher Veterinary Clinic's goal of providing care and services to the local community. This amazing business worked tirelessly with us for years to help provide medical care to our foster dogs. Even though we're not in NM anymore, this is an amazing business, supporting an important cause.

Day 12-12/12

“Be certain that you do not die without doing something wonderful for humanity.”—Maya Angelo

THIS sentiment has been the hardest for ME to balance this past year. If anyone had asked me 12 months ago if I would do something meaningful in the field of veterinary medicine [slash LIFE?!?] I would fantasize about inventing a new procedure or amazing surgical gadget, certainly not providing veterinary care to the homeless. The problems were obvious, to be sure-but a year ago, I knew next to nothing regarding the different approaches and challenges with affordable housing, I gave no thought to if our local domestic violence shelters allowed pets, I didn’t think much beyond my personal sphere. I was frustrated with the rash of burglaries and vandalism, but it hadn’t really hit home. Then, in February, Jonah Hernandez [who I had met a the clinic responding to a non-emergency call just a few days before] was brutally and tragically murdered. Over the rest of that spring and summer, SVC endured a string of batteries against staff members all whilst the property damage, aggressive solicitation, illegal encampments, and vandalism continued. I invested in self-defense seminars and pepper spray for all my employees, I was threatened personally on multiple occasions…in that moment, it would have been extremely easy to slam the door on this subject.

Instead, I’m so, so proud of SVC, The Schumacher Grant, and our clients and the local community [and beyond!] as we’ve all worked together to both offer support to the people and animals where we can, but also to advocate for Las Cruces and everyone involved. We ALL deserve better. I/We have been accused of being callus and uncaring, but I hope our efforts are PROOF that we can stand up for the safety of our community AND still retain our compassion and humanity. My story is not unique…so many businesses in our area and local citizens are amazing and caring and giving to those in need, but will continue to stand up and advocate for public safety and a better solution for all involved. City and State entities NEED to hear this story and MUST take the same course. If you have a moment, consider reaching out to your City and State Legislators to share your story and express your opinions.

Helping animals through ARF [via Dona Ana County] and SNAP is just a small step in the solution to a much, much larger problem. SVC has asked that those interested forgo the normal Christmas gifts/cards/cookies, and consider a donation [anything is appreciated!] to these efforts instead. Please designate all donations towards The Schumacher Grant specifically for these efforts.

Remember Nilla? She's been waiting patiently for 90 days to find her forever home singing the shelter blues. Nilla is approximately three years old and weighs forty-three pounds.

Nilla is a talented singer and serenades the staff with her musical skills and is looking for a partner to spread music with. Nilla is an eager spirit who is excited to go on any adventure you may embark on and will happily be by your side while you make new memories. While she may pull like a sled dog when she first comes out of her kennel, she calms down after she gets her zoomies out. She has also done a wonderful job learning some basic doggy manners and will typically sit if incentivized by a cookie!
Nilla is already spayed, she is up to date on her vaccines, and she tested negative for heartworms. Her adoption fee is $60.00. If you're interested in adding some fun and frolics to your life, please follow the link below to complete an adoption application or come by the shelter to visit sweet Nilla Monday-Friday from 9:00AM-5:30PM.

If you're looking for the perfect friend for movie time or evenings on the couch, Lexie is definitely your gal!

For many people, pets help to make us feel more fulfilled in our lives. They support us when we're down, and give us things to look forward to. We're often asked how we can let our foster dogs go to new homes, and the answer is, while it can be painful to say goodbye to them, we know that we can make a difference for pets and people alike!

When you can, please support your local shelters and rescues. They do their best to help you find that perfect fit for your family!
