Right now, more than 1,000 animals are in the care of Animal Care Centers (ACC), NYC’s open-intake shelter. Dogs are being stacked in crates. Hallways are full. They are currently caring for more than 500 cats. Resources are stretched impossibly thin.

We’ve always focused on finding homes for the animals in our care — but when another shelter is in a crisis of this magnitude, we can’t turn away.

As the weather continues to heat up, remember: NEVER leave your pets in a parked car! Even with cracked windows, temperatures can soar to deadly levels within minutes. Your furry friends can suffer from heatstroke, brain damage, or worse.

Facts to remember:
🚨 On a 75°F day, a car's temperature can reach 100°F in just 10 minutes.
🚨 On a 90°F day, it can hit 160°F in less than 10 minutes.

What to do:
🐾 Leave pets at home if you can't take them with you.
🐾 If you see a pet in distress in a hot car, call local authorities immediately.
🐾 Spread the word to friends and family – let's keep our pets safe!
🐾 Stay vigilant, stay cool, and keep your pets cool too!
