Today went as best as we could hope for! Mystertee’s labs are all stable and his xray of his chest showed significant improvements with almost no enlarged nodes seen and the lung tumor is almost gone already! He got the first IV infusion of vincristine, the first drug in the CHOP chemo regimen for canine lymphoma.

That’s week one. We go back next Wednesday for chemo # 2 and then every Wednesday for the next 4 weeks. If he is in remission after this first cycle then we do another 4 weeks. Then he gets a break and the last 2 cycles are every other week.

I can’t think too far ahead because there is still so much uncertainty, but for today I am one happy Mystertee mom and he is so happy to be home and hanging out in the sun this afternoon ❤️🐶💕

Mystertee Update ❤️

Tee came home from MedVet ICU last Thursday and has been diagnosed with stage 5 lymphoma. It is in his lymph nodes, liver, and his lungs which is why he was coughing blood. He started a drug called Elspar that attacks lymphoma cells quickly and can work within a week and I am hopeful it is working. Last night we both slept 8 hours and he only had a few coughing episodes and he seems to be coughing less this morning.

He is eating ALL his food, and getting extra snacks which is a really positive sign! He is pretty anemic, I think from the bleeding in his lungs, so I am watching the color of his gums and poops daily. Today, he is a bit pinker and his poo is much less black and less like tar (I know, this is gross, but it is giving a lot of insight as to what is going on in his body) so I think the bleeding is slowing!! His eyes are bright and he is following me everywhere in the house showing off his fave toys ❤️

He is on a TON of meds, both Rx and supplements and I have more supplements on the way. Tumeric and mushroom tinctures are supposed to be amazing for cancer in dogs, we have doubled his CBD intake, and I will be feeding him all organic, grass fed, and pasture raised meats and vegetables. We have all kinds of tools in our toolbox, and so much love coming in from around the country. For this I am so thankful and it fills us with hope ❤️

We go back for his first check up on Wednesday and if all looks good he starts his chemo protocol. As of now, our plan is to go with the full CHOP protocol which is weekly chemo orally and injection for 4 weeks, then repeat the cycle. Apparently dogs do really well on this regimen and most get their energy and happy lives back - so we are on board!

At any point, when he tells me he is tired and wants to stop, we will. This is really hard to think about but that is where we are. I am trying to shift my daily perspective to put the thoughts of his mortality away, and instead enjoy all my soft Tee snuggles with wet face kisses and the oodles of white hair on everything I own. I am trying to focus on how grateful I am to have this time with my heart and soul baby, Mystertee ❤️
