🌸🌸 Hector’s heart surgery was over three weeks ago. As you can see he’s doing very well. He’s put on weight and his back legs are much stronger.
I don’t like him or Olive standing or walking on the settee backs, but it’s hard to keep him calm. He’s not allowed to run around much or play for three months.
We are so happy we can look forward to another few years with him. 🌸🌸

🌸🌸 Hector update: Hi everyone, Hector came home yesterday after nine days in Hospital. He seems to be very well, just subdued, thin and a bit wobbly on his back legs.
The difficult part will be to keep him very quite for three months and quite for a further couple of months! 🌸🌸

🌸🌸 HECTOR UPDATE: Ian went to see Hector today as I am on midwifery duties.
He hadn’t been eating much but ate a bowl of chicken and rice with Ian. Then Ian was able to take him for a short walk.
He is still on anticoagulants and is doing well. 🌸🌸

🌸🌸 Hi everyone, it’s Hector here. Thank you for all of your good wishes.
My mummy is here for a little while. I was moved out of ICU this morning and all of my my needles came out. I’m d***y from my strong painkillers but my scan was good and showed no clots.
I just ate a crumb of cheese from my mummy because I hadn’t eaten since before my surgery.

HECTOR in hospital update:
Hector’s surgery yesterday went well technically. His heart was put on by- pass, to enable them to work on it, but it started again nicely. Eventually, he was then taken to ICU.
They are going to start taking monitoring equipment off him and try to get him to move about a bit.
He’s not out of the woods yet but so far so very good!
I cannot believe how brave he is, we are so proud of him. What a wee trooper!

Hector ( left) is a bit miffed and knows something is going on.
He’ll have a bath this afternoon before we head off to the Queen Mother RVC hospital for his major open heart surgery tomorrow morning.
His poorly heart will be put on by pass while they repair his mitral heart valve.

Huge day for Hector ( left) . We are just setting off for the Queen Mother Hospital for his pre op check. He will be admitted this Monday with his major surgery on Tuesday. Good luck our darling boy.

🌸🌸Hector update. Hector is going ahead with his Mitral Heart Valve replacement surgery on the 8th April.
It has been a hard decision but after talking to the cardiologists at both his referral centre and the Queen Mother hospital a few days ago, it was decided that he may not live much longer without surgery. He is considered youngish and a good candidate for the surgery. 🌸🌸

On a serious but happy note. After over five weeks of the cone of shame, four different eye drops, l**e, painkillers and antibiotics. Not to mention weekly visits to the eye hospital!

Hector on the right, has had his eye ulcer for some weeks now. At his eye hospital review on Thursday it was, as suspected, a bit worse. It is too bad to do another burr and we are trying to avoid a general anaesthetic because of his bad heart.
Poor boy is now on four different eye drops several times daily.
Then of course he has two different heart meds too!
We are just hoping and praying that this pesky ulcer goes so that we can go back to worrying only about his heart.

Olive on the left and Hector on the right.
Poor Hector has been in the wars again and has an ulcer in his right eye. We are hoping it goes with the eye drops the vet prescribed yesterday and I’ve added in lubricant drops.
This is the last thing he needed as he has a very bad heart murmur and enlarged heart chamber. He was seen by a cardiologist last year and again this year.
We have decided to get him on the list for a mitral heart valve replacement as the success rates are very high. Particularly as, at eight years old he’s not old and isn’t in heart failure. I dare not say « yet ».
The team at The Queen Mother Hospital For Small Animals will have discussed his suitability for surgery a couple of days ago and I hope to hear from them soon.
If he were to have surgery it may not be until next spring!
