Building a reliable recall.
1. Reward your puppy for "checking in". There's no command for this. You will walk your puppy around the yard and when your puppy comes back and randomly checks in with you, you will reward them. This teaches your puppy to check in and see where you are.
2. Restrained recalls (With people your puppy is familiar with). Have someone hold your puppy while someone else shows him/her the food. The person who shows the food should show it, run away, and call him/her. When the first person hears the word "come" they should release him/her so he/she can run to the second person. The food builds excitement and the person holding your puppy builds frustration so they will try much harder to get to the person who's calling.
3. Paper Plate Recall: Placing a treat on a paper plate a few feet away from your dog, releasing them to eat, and then calling them back to you when they're done. The goal is to get your dog to reach the plate and eat the treat, and then come back to you for a reward, without trying to prevent them from getting the food. You can do this inside and once they get it move outdoors!
4. 10 treat game: Have 10 treats with you and practice 10 recalls in a new place. Reward every single time your dog comes back.
5. Backwards recall: Cue your dog "come", run away from them, and once they get to you jackpot (reward) multiple times for them hurrying to you.
Grade school level:
Preschool: At home, in your hard, and with minimal to low distraction.
Middle school: A new place with low distraction. A park away from people and dogs.
High-school: Near a walking path, a hiking trail, and places with people/dogs.
Graduate in one environment before exceeding.. You can go back a grade if your dog is struggling. Regression in recall is common during adolescent stages.
*Use high-value treats!
Bland chicken, string cheese, or something your puppy really likes. Save good treats for recall

Foot targeting with Storm.
Storm has learned to signal his owner when he has to go outside. 💓
Storm is working on being neutral with other dogs. We're working on basic commands while a tiny distraction is added. He's a puppy, he's learning, and this is a new dog he's never met. He's also in a new environment, and that's we're not adding any pressure.. Building consistency in his commands.

My lovely foster dog is going to a new home soon. Who said 4yr old dogs who lived outside can't learn?
Matter of fact you can teach an "old" dog new tricks. 💓💓💓
Adopt me! I have obedience training 💓
Hey there! My official name is Rogan, but my foster mom calls me 'bud' and 'goofball.' I don't care what you call me as long as you have lots of energy to play with me - especially with my growing ball collection in the yard. Although full of energy and a bit goofy at times, I'm a smart boy too. I've learned 'sit' and I am working on 'wait' around my mealtimes (it's just hard cause food is sooo yummy!) I do have a foster sister who I get along great with (a 30lb pup) and I even do great when I get boarded for the day. I still get so excited around people, but my foster mom is working with me around my jumping habit, and remember - I'm a smart boy, so I'm confident I'll figure it out soon. A few of my favorite things are balls, car rides, balls, belly rubs, balls, my human foster sibling (a 13 year old), and, oh! let's not forget balls!
