Always a fun day when kids come to play!

Big thanks to Rebekah and kiddos! Johnny, Junebug, and Charlie were groomed. Junebug went on a walk about w the kids. Paisley and Tank played with the kids, and ate most of the cookies. And Zuni and Bambi sat nearby to work on socializing.

Looking forward to next time! ❤️

PS. Johnny and Junebug are available for adoption! If you are interested, please PM the page.

Johnny and Junebug update!

It has been a busy and stress filled summer, but my teen is back from his summertime adventures. And we are getting back to work on getting our adoptable rescue horses and ponies into great homes.

First up, Johnny and Junebug!

For those new to the page, they were rescued 4 months ago, with their feet in terrible condition!

Since then, they have had 3 trims, and plenty of pasture time. This was missing in their past life, which allowed their feet to overgrow. Horses are meant to take a step and take a bite, take a step, take a bite. If that option isn’t available, it causes their feet to get out of shape really quick. Thus the need for regular farrier care, which they had not had.

{Side bar: As you look through the before and after photos, please refrain from making ugly comments, or judging the past owner. While we all know there is not a good excuse for neglect, sometimes life throws people some really tough curve balls. Instead of lashing out, look inward. Make sure you set yourself up for success. Have a plan for family emergencies. Keep a savings account. Have people you can call in your time of need. And make sure to keep yourself healthy, physically and mentally. And above all, don’t get in over your head!}

Johnny and Junebug have been hanging out with our mustang herd, and have latched on to KK, our recently returned Polk pony (more on her in a future post). In doing so, I have seen vast improvements in their mental and physical health. Along with trims, they have had plenty of room to roam, and use their body the way it was designed, which has led to better posture and improved conformation. Amazing what happens when animals are kept closer to the way God designed them to live.

While their toes are still a little long, the hard part is over. And we are starting to accept home offers. I would prefer they go together, but for the right home, we would consider placing separately.

They are both late teens. Sweet, friendly, and able to be haltered, lead and loaded without any issue. We will be looking for a non riding home. Pets only for the remainder of their lives! They are older and need a retirement home where they will be loved, spoiled, and properly cared for.

We need 2 references, plus a thumbs up from your farrier and veterinarian. We need proof that proper hoof care will continue. Pasture space is required. Daily turnout is key to their continued improvement. If you are interested, please PM the page. We have an adoption interview/application that will need to take place to be sure it is a good fit. A farm visit is also required before adoption. Delivery is available, depending on location. Look forward to talking with y’all about these two cuties!

Update! VPAS, with the help of the community at large, was able to stave off euthanasia. Again. These are great people trying to do their best for the unwanted animals of our parish. Kudos to them and those of you who adopted! If you follow us, please share a picture of your pup in the comments so everyone can say thank you!

This is a courtesy post for the Vernon Parish Animal Shelter. These are not Freedom Reins Rescues, nor can we take in any more dogs until we place the rescues we have.

Please click through ASAP for more information to adopt one of these dogs. These dogs only have until close of business today.

Here is the forwarded information:

“🆘🆘🆘 ALL 8 of these dogs will have to be euthanized if no one adopts or rescues them by today, Wednesday July 31st at 4:00 pm.

They have all been in the Vernon Parish Animal Shelter for over 40 days. All kennels are full and they have to make room for more dogs that have to come in.

They haven’t had to euthanize in three years for space but these are the worst times for shelters. Dogs are being surrendered and dumped at record rates. This is the new reality. Please consider saving one of these sweet babies. They just want to live and love and be loved. ❤️🙏😢🆘🆘🆘”

Editing to add: This was not a request for dollars for a repair. Just was trying to find someone to replace a part. Turns out one of my adopters has a repairman. Yay! But already ordered a new washer because mine has been more than temperamental since day 1. They just don’t make things like they used to. Getting the cheapest most basic no bells or whistles washing machine. Never again will I ever have a front loader or an agitator-less washing machine. The new one will save me money, time and water! Blessing in disquise.

Very thankful for a husband who will move already tight finances around in order to keep things rolling here in my lane.

Totally unrelated to rescue, but need a washing machine repair in the leesville area. And actually not unrelated. I wash a lot of dog blankets and dog towels.

Good morning, y’all!

Guess what time it is?

Hay time! Again!

Need to pick up more smalls. And the weather is finally cooperating!

Could use some help with that (and vet visits, dapp, lepto, rabies, coggins, feed, alfalfa, etc…but today has enough trouble of its own. I will make another post about other upcoming needs later)

The smalls being held for us are 4 🥕 each bale. We go through about 1 bale per day for Rockstar and Gypsy, and a little more with Minko back.

Anyone want to pitch in?

https://www.paypal.me/helpFRRR

PS. Pic for attention. Not up for adoption. Too wild and hard to catch. And she likes the hay, but doesn’t eat much of it. 😂

FERAL CATS - ATTENTION TRAPPERS

We are so excited that our community is utilizing our feral cat package! That being said, we have been…inundated with feral cats in the last few months. In order to protect my invaluable staff and provide the best service possible, we ask that trappers abide by the following rules. Failure to do so will result in your cat being declined for surgery, and nobody wants that!

1. We ONLY accept cats as walk-ins for the feral cat package if they are in a live trap. Cats in carriers/crates/anything but a live trap will be turned away. If you are unsure of what a live trap is, here is an example that is currently on sale at Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/VEVOR-Live-Animal-Cage-Trap-31-in-x-10-in-x-12-in-Humane-Cat-Trap-Galvanized-Iron-Folding-Animal-Trap-with-Handle-YBL32YC00000TSR3RV0/328884906

2. There must only be 1 cat per trap. In the unlikely (but possible) event that you trap two cats in one trap, you will be required to supply an additional trap/carrier by 11AM or surgery will not be performed. Additionally, there will be a $30 transfer fee in these cases. It becomes significantly harder for us to anesthetize and recover the cats when they are sharing a trap. It is also dangerous for them to recover from anesthesia in the company of another cat (who is also recovering from anesthesia). If you were wondering how we handle and anesthetize feral cats, and why this matters, check out this video https://youtu.be/n2Hom6N7b88?si=YXsxISCiTiO61NaJ

3. Please do not put towels/bedding/cardboard in the traps. This also makes it very hard for us to anesthetize these kitties.

4. Kittens must be at least 2lbs (3 months old). If you catch a tiny kitten, please release it and try again in a month. We promise it won’t reproduce in the meantime.

5. The ear tip is non-negotiable. This small incision informs anyone who may be feeding/trapping cats that this particular cat has already been fixed.

6. We can not accept more than 3 cats per person per day. If you have a large colony and would like to trap more at once, please call/email us to discuss which day would be best to do that.

Thank you for caring for the community cats! Please see our website for more information on our feral cat package. www.magnoliaspayneuter.com

But the dogs are having a blast in the water and mud.

*Tank is not available for adoption. He is my husband’s senior dog. Happens so fast.

I recently read removing a spider is certain death. Since we still have a lot of rain coming, I guess I will leave her alone. As long as she stays out of my way…

23/07/2024

Monday night late night barn check.

These two are about the sweetest, shyest, low maintenance, non chalant-est ponies I have ever rescued.

KK was returned last month. Minko was returned Sunday.

That makes 7 returns this year.

Once a Freedom Reins rescue, always a Freedom Reins rescue…

But hopefully that is it for returns for the year! 🙏🙏🙏

Guess who has been in the rescue FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR?!

How? Why? Where are her humans?

Bambi came to us a year ago yesterday, after having been dumped with her brother 4 week before that. Bolt was adopted in the fall of last year, but Bambi is still with us!

Bambi is about a year and 3 months old now. She is a shepherd mix, and yes, we still need to do the dna test to find out what else. (The challenge is separating all the rescues and their drinking water…which is impossible during the summer months. There are a few water stations outside that is next to impossible to keep them from sharing…and it is too hot to empty them at the moment.)

We do know she is 100% beautiful! And 110% the smartest pup I have ever trained! She is about 50 lbs. Crazy athletic! Would play fetch for hours, and out runs everyone here by a lot! She loves going for long walks.

Bambi is crate and house trained. She has great manners and an excellent recall. Extremely loyal to her person.

Downfall? She is afraid of most men, but not all. Where are my single ladies? Bambi will make you feel safe, and comes with a built in alarm system!

She is on the very shy side at first. We are working on her social anxiety. But she does love to go for car rides.

Fence yard is a must! Bambi is well behaved, but we keep her entertained, and well exercised on the daily. Recommended to have toys and chews available for her, and crated when not home or when sleeping. I have had no problems with damage or accidents by doing these things.

Recommended no young kids, small dogs or cats. Bambi has not hurt any of ours, but I run a tight ship, have an eagle eye on the littles and the shepherds, use training collars when we are all outside, and have shifts for play time to keep everyone safe. It is A LOT to manage. Not saying it is impossible but Bambi has a strong prey drive, and a bit on higher on the pecking order, so best if she has big dog friends. Same for children. At one foster home she loved the kids. But she has also shown anxiety and fear based reactions when it comes to some small humans.

Please share with your friends to help us find Bambi a home with her forever person!

Send us a PM if you are interested, and we can send you our adoption application. We require 2 personal references, and will need to contact your veterinarian as well. We have about 10 questions to make sure it is a good match for you and Bambi. Willing to deliver, depending on location.

Also willing to transfer to a reputable, caring, high yield adoption dog rescue. We are a horse rescue, and while we have helped a handful of other species, people are not coming to us for our dog rescues. Need help!!

Hey yall!

Huge, silly favor to ask…

But it is important to me.

As some of you may know, we have a resale booth at the Treasure Chest in Alexandria, LA to help defray some of the resxue expenses.

There is a contest this month for the most new likes, and the store with the most wins!

What do we win? I have no idea! 😂

But just like following and sharing the rescue page helps grow the rescue support, growing the audience at the Treasure Chest, grows the customers who would help support us through their purchases.

And cool fact, quite a few of my fellow vendors also rescue animals, plus there isna give back to the community booth as well.

So please like, follow, share, and if you are local, come shop with us! Thanks!! ❤️

A unique shopping experience where you will find your next hidden treasure.
Our hours are:
Wednesday thru Friday. 9:30 till 5:30
Saturday 9:30 till 4.30

Update:

Big thanks to Denise, Ann, Terri, Patricia, Cheryl, Janet, and Lynn for helping with the latest hay expenses!

Together all y’all helped us get enough for 6 round bales, and 20 small square bales! This is absolutely amazing!

If anyone else wants to help, we would so appreciate it. We feed Rockstar and his girlfriend small squares as currently we don’t have the correct fencing in our pastures for a blind horse. Together, they eat about one a day.

I was able to pick up a few of the rounds today. Hoping to grab the rest this weekend. And then will go after the smalls. It would be an answered prayer to have enough to get a few more smalls.

Thanks again to everyone for your help so far with your prayers, and sharing, commenting and interacting with our plea. If anyone has a prayer request that we can reciprocate please either type it in the comments or PM the page. We would be honored to pray for you.

Original post:

Hey!

Haaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!

We have two requests!

Rockstar, and his gal Gypsy, are low on hay. We found a few good deals from $4-6 per small bale. They eat about a bale a day.

Any chance we can get some help purchasing a month’s worth? With over 12,000 followers, surely there are at least 30 of you who can help sponsor a bale?

Also, we found a half price special on some large round bales. They are giving us a deal at $25 each bale.

If you want to help financially, here is my paypal:

If you can’t help financially, please consider praying, liking this post, commenting, and sharing to help us reach more people. Facebook has throttled us down lately, and part of that is my fault for not posting on the daily. But this week with TS Beryl, and a full schedule, social media took a backseat.

Appreciate all of you who have helped in the past! You are such an answered prayer!

Been a rough week but still so much to be thankful for.

On Monday, Hurricane Beryl caused 113 tornado warnings in Louisiana! Read it is a record number: https://www.wkbn.com/weather/record-tornado-warnings-in-louisiana-from-beryl/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0j2ZZw-CxuB3jFjOO4UVOP4ilUhvSD7CQJGZQClogq6h6S087iimuR6VE_aem_2XIFL9mlIjvllEn3m5dTXQ

Thankfully zero tornados at the rescue. And we only had one large limb down, and all the small branches have already been picked up. All the animals are fine, other than being extra dirty and tangled. Was able to groom 3 but still have 8 to go. A few need to be run into the chute for grooming. For their safety and mine. I know what I am doing this weekend!

Tuesday, I face planted in the dirt. A horse knocked me over from what I can tell. I kinda blacked out for a sec. Have a nice goose egg on the forehead, and had a little bleeding on my face. Hoof mark on the back of my leg and a sore knee.

Incredibly grateful to be alive and well, besides a headache for the first day, and some soreness from the impact. No concussion symptoms. No broken bones. Still living. Could have been so much worse!

Have also been working a few shifts at a local 501c3, put up some hay, and managed to keep everyone alive and well. Just to name a few of the weeks events! Y’all! I am tired!!!!

Thursdays are like my Fridays. I am so ready for the weekend… get to enjoy the beautiful faces around here ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Which face do you like the most?

Edited to add:

I almost forgot to mention the tractor had broken down… big Kudos to our good friend Lynn for fixing my little blue tractor! And for bringing some small bales over until we can find a load of smalls.

In all of the week’s worries, one thing is true: God always provides and is always with me. This week he provided an abundance of safety, and help from good friends. My guardian angel is probably getting overtime pay! 😂

02/07/2024

For those with livestock, have you already considered your options? This may or may not hit our area, but the season is just getting started. Be prepared!

I really hesitate to post this, but I want to provide some context, both good and bad for our area. I know this model run will make the rounds, so let's discuss.

First off, global models are bad with the intensity of hurricanes. Intensity has a big impact on track forecasts for hurricanes. This morning, most ensembles drove Beryl into Mexico on a double landfall, but the trend has been north all day. Once we hit critical mass, and this thing gets far enough north (if it gets far enough north) it will start to feel more influence from an upper level disturbance that will weaken the ridge of high pressure across our area by this weekend. Beryl has been on the north side of guidance most of the day, and it seems models are starting to ingest this into their forecasts. A stronger system would tend to move more toward the north, and they don't get much stronger than Beryl. I stand by my earlier statement that I'll know a lot more by late tomorrow and Wednesday. For now, I'll say there is at least some chance for local impacts, though I still lean toward this staying south of us. If my concern level was a 1 out of 10, it's now a 2 out of 10. It's not bad, but it's not trending in the right direction.

This post is not just about this run, but this run provides a good visual of the spread I'm seeing across different sets of models. I'll be live in the morning with a fresh look at models, and will have a video update around 9:00 AM. *IF* this were to be a local issue, we are talking Sunday or Monday. Remember, we are not perfect a day out. If we are 6-7 days out, we are all sorts of not perfect. Tom and I are on top of every piece of data you can imagine, so we will tell you when it's time to prepare. As of now, this just shows me that we need to be prepared for a busy season. I'll update in the morning.
