Zach came to me with pretty bad canter issues and by extension terrible changes, particularly left to right. Basically he had PTSD on that side. Any changes were met with anxiety attacks, running off, and bucking. He was never balanced on that side and physically wasn’t able to do a clean change. It was impossible. We had to go through it many times and each time, no matter how bad it was, I praised him like it was perfect so he’d relax and not be so afraid to try. Counter canter went a long way to balancing him (we’re not there yet) but well on the way and the changes are starting to come through clean.
