💔 We Fought for Him, But the Shelter Failed Him 💔
This is a heartbreaking post to write. This sweet senior boy was dumped at in terrible shape—rotten teeth, a heart murmur—but otherwise healthy for his age. He had a chance. But in just 10 days, the shelter left him outside in the cold, and he got sick. What started as an upper respiratory infection became pneumonia. He struggled to breathe. Instead of helping him, they put him on the euthanasia list.
We pulled him, determined to save him. We rushed him to Veterinary Care Center in Hollywood, but after examining him, the vet left for the weekend without even speaking to us. No diagnosis. No real plan. He was sent home. His foster did everything—showered him with love, care, and comfort—but his condition got worse.
Yesterday, we took him to True Care in Studio City, where they immediately said he should have been hospitalized from the start. They put him in oxygen, gave him fluids, three different antibiotics—everything to save him. We prayed for a miracle.
Early this morning, the critical care specialist told us what we never wanted to hear: his little body was shutting down. She said it was like he was drowning, and prolonging his life would only be torture. There was no time to wait. We made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. His foster didn’t get to say goodbye because we couldn’t let him suffer any longer.
We are shattered. His foster is devastated. We didn’t pull him to lose him—we pulled him to save him. But the shelter failed him first. He should never have gotten sick. He should never have suffered like this.
Our fundraiser is closed, but if you donated and don’t agree with our decision, we understand and will refund you—just message us. Our final bill isn’t in yet, but we expect it to be around $4K.
We did everything we could. We loved him deeply. And we are so, so sorry.
Run free, sweet boy. You deserved better. 💔
