Here is Tiger Lilly!!
They know.
They know when they enter rescue that they have a glimmer of hope that they'll finally land in the right hands.
They are relishing in the first gentle touches and ear scratches and belly rubs. They see Christmas lights and try roast chicken and have a fuzzy blanket in front of a fireplace at their nap disposal.
And they're happy.
And then the days, weeks, months go by - and as loved as they feel, they know it's still not their forever.
They see other, maybe younger, maybe fuzzier, maybe smaller dogs get picked up by overjoyed new mommies and daddies and little humans and other canine siblings.
And still they wait.
They start to feel worried, overlooked, saddened, and hopeless.
They wonder why they're not good enough. Pretty enough. Young enough. Trained enough.
They wonder if they are ever going to get the chance that their temporary foster human assures them of, with waning confidence, as they give a few extra belly rubs for sympathy.
They wonder if they'll ever get to try a Puppaccino, or pick out their very own toy at the pet store, or have a doting human gently hold their face while they get a wellness exam.
They are the dogs that are still waiting for their chance, the ones that sometimes deserve it more than any other.
