Friends of DeKalb County-AL Animal Adoption Center Bringing hope to the homeless pets of DeKalb County, AL! Volunteer, foster-based, 501c3 nonprofit. However, we can not do this alone. What a deal!

Friends of DeKalb County-AL Animal Adoption Center is made up of a small group of volunteers and not the shelter staff. Our mission is to improve visibility and increase awareness of the countless number of abandoned, homeless animals in DeKalb County, with the ultimate goal being to unite these deserving animals with the perfect family to call their own. Whether it be by finding adopters for home

less animals, reuniting lost pets with their owners or increasing community awareness about important issues, our volunteers are dedicated to being a voice for the animals in our area that are in need. There are numerous ways that you can help in this effort, including volunteering, educating, donating, fostering a pet until it is adopted and sharing pictures of animals that are posted on our page. The list of ways to help is endless and can be tailored to meet whatever your needs may be. For those of you interested in making a monetary donation, please use our Facebook donate button and be sure to select Friends/Family so we don't have to pay a fee for your donation or you can send your donation via Paypal to [email protected]. Any donations are greatly appreciated and can truly save lives. The DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center in Fort Payne serves the entire county and it is imperative that you check with them if you have a missing animal from anywhere in DeKalb County. Their phone number is 256.304.0474 and they are located at 2601 Jordan Road SW, which is behind Lowe's and on the left near the county jail. If you would like details about any of the animals on our page, please contact or visit the shelter, as well. For those interested in adopting a pet, the DeKalb County Animal Adoption Center offers an affordable adoption fee upon approval of an application. For $80, an adopted animal is spayed/neutered, microchipped and given a rabies shot. In addition, you receive a free, 30-day pet insurance policy! We are incredibly grateful for those of you who are considering adoption and for those who have already opened your hearts and homes to these precious animals. As Karen Davidson once said, "Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever."

🐾Dekalb citizens, let’s make it our goal to lower the high shelter intake numbers @ DCAAC in 2024! Please read this entire post to find out how you can help today!
🐾These are the shelter numbers for the Dekalb County-AL Animal Adoption Center (DCAAC) in Fort Payne, AL. This municipal shelter has 44 dog kennels and a small cat room which is usually enough space to house the stray animals that are brought in by individuals or animal control for this county. However, this shelter does not have enough space for the large amount of owner surrenders who are released to DCAAC every single month. Due to the high number of unaltered pets in Dekalb county too many puppies and kittens have no place to go.

🐾As volunteers of “Friends of DCAAC,” we post these numbers with DCAAC’s permission in hopes that the reality of this situation will move our DeKalb County residents and community leaders to do what is necessary to lower these high intake numbers. Just like you, we want ALL the shelter pets to be adopted, fostered, and/or rescued, to live out their days fully in a wonderful home.
🐾We are so very grateful to the rescue groups and no kill shelters that have stepped up and helped thousands of Dekalb pets find homes in the past. We are also thankful to the families who have adopted & fostered from the shelter as well. We must, as a county, unite together for the good of our pets so that these high intake numbers can change for the better fur-ever!!!

🐾So how can you, as a resident of Dekalb County, HELP LOWER the high shelter intake numbers moving forward?
*First and most important – get your pets fixed (SPAY/NEUTER). The benefits for your pet, you as a pet owner, and the overcrowded pet situation in Dekalb far outweigh the cost. There are reduced options (paid for by grants, individuals, fundraising, etc) if you need financial assistance to get your pet fixed. You can help out also by fixing the stray pet that has been hanging around your house or help a friend by gifting a spay/neuter for their pet.
*Share these numbers and encourage your family and friends to also spay/neuter their pets.
*Your pets are counting on you to keep them! Having a wonderful pet takes time, patience, proper training, and money. Invest in your pet, they will love you for it.
*Adopt a shelter pet. So many wonderful shelter pets are just waiting for a new family to call their own.
*Foster a shelter pet. This opens kennel space at the shelter and enables rescues the ability to save more of our shelter pets.
*Please do all that you can to find a new home for your pet if you need to rehome it.
*Keep up with & like this page on Facebook. Consistently share the shelter strays and adoptable pets we post. Your post might save their life!
🐾Together, we can help make a difference for our fur friends in Dekalb! Thank you for reading and sharing this post. You can make a positive impact for our Dekalb County pets. They are counting on us!

▶️More ADOPTION INFO: If your adoption application for this pet is approved, note that normal adoption fees are 80 dollars. This fee includes the cost of spay/neuter surgery & rabies vaccination. *Please consider that this fee does NOT include additional important vaccinations and vetting your adopted pet will need. As a good pet owner, SOON after adopting a shelter pet it will be important for your new fur friend to receive a proper veterinarian examination. This will insure your pet has the best care & vaccines needed for a great start with you.

*This is a courtesy post for our local animal shelter. The DCAAC staff does not run a page due to time restrictions. We are a volunteer organization called “Friends of DCAAC”, part of our purpose is to help the Dekalb shelter (DCAAC) pets find homes, and to extend a helpful hand to the shelter staff. We post all the information we know about each pet. If you need to know more info or would like to adopt this pet, please call or visit the shelter so their staff can better assist you.

We just want to update you all on what we have been doing! We recently made a $900 payment to McMinn Regional Humane Society for more shelter pets to be spayed and neutered so they can be rescued/adopted, we got an update on Lunah who was attacked by another dog and surrendered by her owner, but is now ready to head north to be adopted (we paid $945 out of the medical fund for her vet expenses), we have spent $2,610 helping to spay and neuter 21 dogs and 41 cats this year out of our owner reimbursement spay/neuter program and we have spent $1,727 on supplies for foster animals. Every donation helps! Just look at Lunah! If you are able, please donate to any one of our funds using the dropdown menu on our Paypal donation form. Thank you for your continued support! 🐾🐾 https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=WQ27JS2TQTWQ2&source=qr
