It’s been pretty warm here the past few days, we had a max of 46.7 yesterday 🥵 The bird population has increased at the homestead the local minor birds and mud larks had to share their patch with 12 extra species of birds all frolicking in the sprinklers trying to escape the heat. There are a few extra picture and videos in the comments.
Monday morning fun at Mandora
Some of our first calf heifers coming in for a drink and a look while we fixed the overflow on the tank. The dry cattle are doing exceptionally well at the moment considering its mid September and we’ve lost a heap of feed, majority of being in our paddocks. It’s been a bit of a balancing act and a massive learning experience for us working this type of land system, figuring out the best stocking rates and having the ability to have spare paddocks up your sleeve if the rains come late. It’s been a challenging year but a great experience at the same time.
Apparently my dusty hand didn’t taste very nice 😂
Sorry about the husky voice, I’ve had a horrible cold all week, I don’t usually sounds like this 😂 just a little snippet from yesterday’s walk to the over night yards.
Day two of the big drove, done and dusted. Met the crew out the back of the horse paddock a few hours ago to have a bite to eat and let the cattle pull up for a few minutes for a feed as well. Crew have just finished yarding up, time for a quick cuppa to let the cattle settle then it’s into drafting and processing.
Out and about having a yarn with the locals
Well what a day it has been! Started out normal, brekky, feed the calf, chooks let out, doggos fed. Smoko made, sausage rolls, potato fritters (thank you left over mash!) cookies baked, thermos’ full and billy bag ready. Load up the dogs and head out to the yards to meet the crew for smoko. (Had a change of plans like twice in this time, Ben was going to grab smokos, but here we are) Get to the yards have a cuppa and a feed with the team, Davo gets a call from Beno mid cuppa “I’m bogged in the truck, can you send Cait back with the ute, it should be able to pull me out”. Skull back cuppa, pack up smoko, catch ya later team, head back to the end of the driveway, Ben had managed to get the truck out, “rito mate back up here and I’ll hook you up, put her in high range first gear, keep up ‘er we’ll need a bit of momentum to get us through” yep roger, high range first gear, up ‘er, half way through.... nup not going to make it! Bloody sand! Unhook the truck, “be back in half hour cattle” race back grab the loader head out, pull the truck out piece of pie, “rito Cait you head back with the cattle, unload them onto feed and water then head back out, I’ll fix this track up and I’ll meet you back here when you get back” me “um yep no worries 😳” poke on back to the yards, in and out of the truck what felt like 10,000 times to open and close gates, get to the yards cattle come off the body truck beautifully, line up the second trailer, nope try again, yep got it, nope try again, third time lucky, unload the single deck, they also come off beautifully, time to head back out, perfect timing Ben has just finished fixing the track, Beno jumps in the truck and gets through first go, bobs yours uncle. Of he goes in a cloud of dust down the track to load up again. Head on back to the homestead for lunch (at 1.30😂) and finish cleaning up from smoko, then get stuck into washing and entering invoices and checking of the statement! Next make some dinner, chicken and leek pie, easy one fo
It’s a pretty tough gig for the animals around here 🙄😂
It’s not often you get to go to a music festival up here, let alone one at such a beautiful location like Barn Hill Beachside Station Stay, so you’ve got to make the most of the opportunity when it knocks at your door! A massive thank you to everyone who put together this wonderful event! Here is Tom Curtain from Katherine Outback Experience with one my favourite songs from his latest album, a crowd favourite as well 🎶
Had to be done 👇🏼🎶😂 this is the before scenes from the last Hank/Plugga video
