I really do wish humans thought more like dogs do. They never judge, and they love us unconditionally. As it should be! If you’re out and you’re living your best life I’m so happy for you. If you’re struggling because of this judgemental world, I send you my love. If you’re not out, I hope you find the courage to do so. If any part of this post makes you uncomfortable I truly hope you learn.

Hello ! I apologize if you received an invite to this group before it was ready. After seeing a LOT of really bad advice on Facebook lately on how to address reactivity in dogs I've decided to create my own group for safe and sound advice. If you know and love a reactive dog, feel free to join (or recommend to a friend that does)! I will be adding a lot of content over the next few months. This will be a safe space to discuss the sadness, stress and hope we have for our reactive dogs.

This!!!

This is something so often seen on social media, trainers claiming that they have sorted out a behaviour problem in a single session, or just minutes. Often they will show videos of before and after, seeming to indicate that the dog is perfectly behaved in the after clip.

The problem comes when looking at these videos and claims with an educated eye. So often the 'perfectly behaved' dog in the second clip is showing lots of signs of stress, scared to do anything, or looks absolutely shut down and has given up, just waiting for it all to be over.

What is rarely shown is the bit between the before and after. That part where the dog finds out not doing what this trainer wants will result in something that causes them fear and/or pain. The methods or tools that might be used (although with a close look, the shock collar or prong collar or similar tool can sometimes be seen). The effects of using tight slip leads on the dog's neck and the physical damage that can be done there.

The picture text sums the whole situation up: there are no quick fixes in behaviour. If someone claims that they can change behaviour fast, take a step back. Think about what they would have to do or use to stop that behaviour so quickly, and about the effect that will have on your dog and the relationship you have with them.

📸 *Photo Contest*

After rebranding and getting organized, I wanted to bring some regular fun to FearLess Pet! I've decided to do a monthly photo contest with different goals each month.

For May I have chosen "shadows". I've seen some pretty cool dog shadows over the years so I figure maybe you guys have too. Or, maybe this will inspire you to start looking. The winning shadow does NOT have to represent a cool unicorn as Billie's does here but the more creative and unique the better.

This contest ends on Saturday, May 30th and the winner will be announced thereafter. The photo contest winner will receive a $25 gift card to shop for gear or training at FearlessPet.com.

🐶 To enter:

1. Like/Follow Fearless Pet here on Facebook.

2. Post your dog's shadow pic on your profile and tag me by May 30th with a caption indicating that the post is for Fearless Pet's Monthly Photo Contest.

3. Tag a friend so they can join in the fun (this is optional but encouraged 🙂.

4. Details: Only winners in the US can claim physical products for the gift card. If you are outside of the US and don't mind paying the shipping I will be happy to quote, otherwise you can use the credit towards a dog training program or a virtual, private dog training session with me!

As a world we have grown in many areas. As a country we have a LOT to do but as humans we have some control over what we agree to and what we disagree to. When it comes to our dogs - we are their VOICE. Personally, when it comes to training/teaching - if I wouldn't do it with my daughters, I certainly wouldn't do it to my pets. We can all come together and learn how to raise happy, well-adjusted pets by using kind methods and gentle gear. We owe them that, at the very least 💖

Don't be fooled! Sometimes trainers that haven't taken the time to truly learn will state misleading facts about positive reinforcement. I can assure you that it WORKS, it is based on Science and it has to! (Mind you, if not done correctly it may not work).
Using positive reinforcement has been proven for decades to not only change behaviors but build confidence and trust, too. And that's something to be happy about for you and your dog 🥰

Puppy socialization is more important than manners! You can train and refine manners ANYTIME but puppies have a delicate window of socialization so, be sure to make that a priority. Socialization includes seeing people of all ages, bikes, scooters, lawn mowers, ducks, water, wheelchairs, strollers, you name it! It's much easier to train a sit or down to a young dog but when a puppy misses out on socialization it can set them back big time.

Ok, this is one of my favorite reviews EVER! I think it speaks for itself. I am so proud of the accomplishments that were made while I was in Calfornia. My students (parents included) never cease to amaze me and, the thing is, we had so much fun, too. Dog training should be enjoyable for all involved. Want to train with me? Send me a DM!

Your dog's behavior is NOT personal! Your dog isn't pulling on leash to annoy you or barking at the mailman to upset you - they are simply doing normal doggy things that we don't particularly like. If your dog does anything you don't like, train them to do something else. If you need help, reach out! I am back to doing private sessions.

Here's a simple hack to teach your dog to open their crate on their own. Once this is consistent you can add a cue like "open" or "crate" but don't rush that. More importantly make opening the crate and going in FUN. Use high value rewards if your dog won't open the door for kibble :) Don't close the door right away after training this, you don't want your dog to feel "tricked". Instead put them in their crate as you normally do if you are leaving and teach this at other times.

Tag me if you post, I'd love to see your dog learning this!

What would excite you enough to RUN towards it? For me it would be a group of puppies 😂.

If you want your dog to come when called you need to TRAIN it! When I say "train" I mean make it fun and worthwhile. Here are some tips on what to use when teaching our dog to come when called. Mix them up and don't train for more than 5-10 minutes, you don't want to wear it out.

The key is to be exciting and to teach your dog to run to you with excitement. Compare this to how you would feel if you had a chance to go to a free concert, shopping spree or trip to Disneyland.

Odds are, you would remember how fun and amazing it was and you'd want to do it again. 🎉

Do you agree? 🥰

✨Oliver’s entire world has opened up recently. He has gone from fearful to fearless and is now approaching people and dogs with interest instead of fear. He runs up and sniffs dogs! (He used to run up and snarl at them).

His “graduation” was today and that involved putting him on a long lead and watching him. We observed what and where he wanted to go, using his body and emotions. Doing this gave us a lot of information about how he FELT. He happily moved about the park, created distance near children (this tells us we have something to consider for future training) amd headed straight into a group of dogs and people.

He has transformed in the most amazing way 💖!!

I accidentally deleted this so 🤦‍♀️... Woohoo 🎉 I’m excited to announce my brand refresh for Fearless Pet! I just felt like I needed to lighten things up - last year was so very sad for me and I was feeling like Fearless Pet got a little bit stagnant. I am back, very excited to continue helping you with your dogs and to continue developing great products for them. A new, mega website is on its way, too. I’m so grateful you are here. Thank you for being part of my journey and my Fearless Family 💖🐶🐾.
