Buddy is a 5 year old Mountain Feist mix who was rescued from W. Virginia as a puppy by his loving dad. He has remained by his dad's side until today, when dad ran out of options to keep him safe. Although dad fell on difficult times a while ago, he managed to keep Buddy safe. Today he ran out of options and came to SJRAS for help. We brought Buddy into our care and are urgently seeking placement for this cutie, as we know he's stressed and scared about this big life change. Buddy is well-socialized and has gone all over with his owner. He gets along very well with kids, adults, cats, and dogs. He has spent time playing at the dog park. He's very friendly and although anxious, greeted us nicely at the shelter. He's mostly housebroken and knows lots of commands (when there are treats involved!). here's Bowie, an 8 month old german shepherd adopted recently by one of my long time clients. when her older shepherd Star passed, she fostered twice for two different shelters and both of those shepherds were adopted out. while she was patiently waiting for the right dog to come along, this dollbaby appeared. you too can adopt a purebred if you're looking, just be patient. :')

Update: Nutmeg has left for foster to adopt but we are still critically over capacity and need to move more animals into homes tomorrow!
SJRAS is currently housing 59 dogs in the shelter, unfortunately we only have 55 dog kennels. This leaves us over capacity for dogs and we are required to leave at least 3 kennels empty each evening for dogs who may need to arrive overnight. Having more dogs than we do kennels has meant dogs are being housed in offices or temporary pop up crates in the building. We desperately need to clear 10 dog kennels tomorrow to keep our population safe, healthy and ensure appropriate housing in our care.
Nutmeg who is pictured is just one example of the amazing dogs we have available for foster, adoption or rescue pull! Nutmeg is a 3 year old male and what a looker! Nutmeg has been done well with other dogs and plenty of people while in our care! Animals adopted from us will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines!
If you are interested in adopting Nutmeg please visit the shelter between 11-4 tomorrow. Bring the whole family including any resident dogs in the home!

i recently watched a Rover walker (or a contractor who works for a pet sitter) sitting on bleachers, scrolling thru her phone for 15 minutes, while the dog she was supposed to be walking just stood there looking around. i was really upset as it's a dog in town THAT I KNOW and i'm quite sure his humans want him to be moving, sniffing and having fun not just standing there being ignored. be picky as hell who you're hiring to take care of your BEST FRIENDs!!

what do i do in my free time you ask? well of course, more dog stuff!
for the past 14 years, i've been a volunteer for The Seeing Eye, and this cute puppy DJ is my 8th pup. he's now 3 months old and the hard part (house breaking) is over. for the next year, my job will be to expose him to different experiences, venues, and real life situations that he would encounter as a guide dog. Living in collingswood is the perfect place to do this as it's a small city; we often take the train into philly or we walk to stores and shops here in town where there's lots of traffic, sounds, and crosswalks. a little overdue, but welcome to the dogHut, DJ! this little guy will be with us until he's 15/16 months and old enough for harness training at The Seeing Eye. DJ is my 8th pup and very special indeed. he's one of four boys that my last puppy Shelly had in october! he's very spunky, observant, a little stubborn (like his mama) but super squishy and lovable. also pictured is his brother Duke who is being raised in our club and a throwback pic of his mommy Shelly with my cat inigo montoya when she was about this age. merry christmas everyone! xo, judy

**Quality not Quantity** here i am, headed into year 15 as an owner-operated pet sitting business. this is athena, a red lab; she is very athletic and super sweet but also needs an experienced dog handler (high prey drive and somewhat reactive to other dogs while on leash). I like to take my time getting to know my clients; we never rush through our visits and this is why i take on limited new clients. frankly, i am kinda picky about whom i bring on board! i've watched this fella now for several months in one of my walking neighborhoods; they are such an inspiration. today, i asked to video him taking his dog Slingshot for one of his 3 daily "walks." slingshot suffers from myelopathy yet chris gets him out no matter what the weather. most people wouldn't dare walk today, but here's chris bundling up his best friend for one of their many strolls. what devotion! pay attention to your pets, walk them and take them places. they deserve it. you'll be glad you did❤
