Here it is the middle of July, and hopefully the heat dome has ended. The heat is very hard on the animals and most stay in during the day. Just asking if any followers have ideas for fundraising. We are at our wits end to raise money. And, yes, we still have dogs who are aging and need veterinarian care. We have never solicited money in prior years but since Covid, donations are lean. I have taken on another job to help off-set funds needed. Any ideas???

About six years ago we rescued two bull dogs from Spencerville, Ontario. Spencer was one of those dogs. He was aggressive with people he did not know, he was aggressive with other dogs and because of a wonderful volunteer, Debbie Coleman, he grew out of that behaviour. He stayed at the Rescue because we felt he was not safe to place in just any home. He was loved. In the heat of a week ago Spencer passed away on his own terms. He had been to the vet clinic because of a breathing problem earlier. His happy way of organizing the other dogs will be missed.

LOST DOGS - , ON - June 13, 2024
From: Stephanie Millar

Hi, I'm writing this for a friend that just lost everything including his pets.

Last night in the big storm, a tornado hit close to his house and caused the electrical line to go down and burn his house, garage, cars, absolutely everything they owned. Him and his wife were able to make it outside but barely, on their way out they left the door open and they hope that their dogs (x4) made it out also
They live in the Woods on the side of a lake. On Donelson lane in Lanark.

They found one of there dogs and are missing 3.
They are probably scared and ran but they are all very friendly.
He has 2 standard chocolate poodle and 2 pugs.

Only one of the standard poodle was found.

Today our wonderful Morgan gelding, Mr. Incredible, passed and is no doubt running through fields in horse heaven. He was 34 years of age. He came from a special rescue outside of Kingston, Ontario. He was kind, mannerly, raised his head when he heard my voice and loved the little miniature horse who came with him. He did suffer from that horrid disease, Cushings but it was manageable. Today, he simply laid down in the field and enjoyed the sun. A lovely vet from the Smiths Falls Clinic came out and what a grand person. She talked to him, she sat with him when I had to run into the house and she made me feel right about what I was doing. He is buried here and I can visit him daily. His registered name was Samor's King Cobra but to all who knew him, he was Mr. Incredible!!!

Our lovely, Packer, who was fostered by a couple in Lombardy, passed away two weeks ago at the Rescue. He was an amazing dog with such a will to live after losing the use of his hind end. He was kind, obedient, loyal. He was one of the most difficult decisions we have made. He was simply worn out. He was a handsome American Staffordshire.

A very Happy Easter to all. A sunny day to walk the dogs at last. We have been very behind in keeping up the Rescue page. Any volunteers?

A very Happy New Year to all of our followers and fellow dog and cat owners. May 2024 be filled with love, happiness and much better financial health than the last few years. And, thank you for thinking of us with your donations.

A very Merry Christmas to all our friends and supporters. We hope you are with family and friends and of course, your loved dogs and cats. We do also hope 2024 is a year with less dogs in Rescue and less dogs surrendered. It has been difficult for all Rescues this year.

I have said we were not taking any more dogs in as we are inundated and have little help. HOWEVER, I heard of this 9 year old mix, Molly, whose owner had passed away at home two days before the post by a kind neighbour. Molly lived all her life with this man and did not walk well on a leash, but was very clean in the home. She did like to go for car rides and jumped willingly in my truck. Molly knows her name, comes when she feels like it, is very affectionate, likes to sleep on the couch and has successfully frightened all my dogs with her snapping at them. Molly is being fostered-to-adopt by the kind people at Wags and Whiskers in Merrickville. They have a lovely Beagle and a Great Dane that she can rule. I will keep everyone posted.

After a Friday afternoon shop in the village near our rescue, I met two different people, unrelated who told me that the Rescue was closed and not operating. I have news. I am not dead yet. Still operating and still have dogs in residence, some pallative, some disabled and some still up for a foster home. We certainly need your support and remember, we can still issue tax receipts. So, after all those "still" comments, please consider us if wanting to adopt, wanting to donate blankets, comforters, of funds. Thank you. And, to whomever is spreading news of out demise - get a life!!!

Introducing Roxy. Roxy is a courtesy post. Her human mother passed away suddenly and a family member has reached out to us to try and place her in a new and loving home. Roxy is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and has basic obedience. She can get along with other dogs if properly introduced. She is also very mannerly and clean in her home. Please contact us should you be interested.

This has been a very difficult year once again. Pixie, who was one of our loved dogs who was adopted with Spot to Carleton place, passed away suddenly. She was sweet, feisty and well loved by her parents. Then as you know, Coco and Lola passed a few weeks later. Both were loved and it was once again very difficult. Today though was one of the worst. Gucci, who came to us from Quinte and this year was nine year old, seized in a drug raid, died today in the sun. She had absolutely no hips left but struggled on. Finally, the pain won. This week Gucci stopped eating, did not want to go outside but retained her fun-loving attitude. She detested anyone in uniform, men in general, and loved her mate, Quinn, who she came in with. All are very difficult to lose but she was difficult plus. Very affectionate, wonderful "watch dog" and loved to just hang out on the veranda. I am about to drink too much wine in her memory.

Here are a couple of photos from the Merrickville July 1st parade. The Mayor, Michael Cameron, offered his trailer to save the dogs' paws from scorching.

29/06/2023

We along with some of our dogs and adoptive parents, will be in the Merrickville July 1st parade this year(2023). We will be on a small float so that the dogs do not suffer with paws on hot asphalt. See you there. I should mention that the Mayor of Merrickville offered his trailer and truck to transport us through the Village. We are thrilled as it is to be another scorching day and we would have cancelled the dogs participation. This way, they will be comfortable.

Obviously, I am not a tech person for this new page. Just wanted to mention that we will be at the Merrickville Village Garage Sale on Saturday with many dog products, crates and necessities. We will be at the red brick house across from the RBC building.
