Plainbrowndog For all the "plain brown dogs" (or black, white, yellow...) that have gotten passed or almost passed by at shelters - because every dog deserves a chance!

Pups like Walnut make it to us when there's no other hope. They've been given away, used for breeding, and abandoned during their most critical development time, leaving them confused and frustrated when they finally land in a kennel.

Humans have failed them repeatedly until they need more than most people think they can give. But all Walnut needs is a permanent home, understanding, patience, routine, and positive guidance.

It's beyond heartbreaking to imagine that after enduring all of these challenges and still wanting nothing more than to be someone's best friend, euthanasia becomes their fate — an uncomfortable reality for so many dogs entering shelters right now when no one steps up to save them. Not in some unknown, far away, intangible place, but right here all over Chicagoland.

It doesn't have to be how Walnut's story ends if you give this gorgeous, young, hopeful Lab a chance. She will thrive in a loving single family home without other pets. Her adoption also includes a professional trainer support package to help her settle in and bond with you.

She is in urgent need of an adoptive family. Is it yours?

These 16 faces represent just a small fraction of the dogs who came to our shelter over a recent 3 day period and are currently waiting for rescue or adoption. Each one deserves their own story, their own moment and post. But since November 1st alone, 305 dogs have arrived and we are now at a breaking point.

With the city no longer requiring appointments to surrender pets, we’re drowning. The number of incoming dogs is at an all time high, but resources, time, and homes for them are painfully limited.

How You Can Help:
-Share these posts to give these dogs the visibility they need.
-Adopt or foster if you can
-Advocate for better policies and take a stand against things like backyard breeding, which feeds into this crisis.

Our staff and volunteers are heartbroken alongside you. They’re the ones by each dog’s side during the most difficult moments. Thank you. Always. For advocating and caring for these animals.

You can find more information on each dog by visiting our CACC Transfer Team page or by searching for their name and ID number in the FB search bar.

🚨URGENT: Chestnut’s foster cannot keep him, they are highly allergic to him! He needs a new foster ASAP!🚨

Chestnut, the canine version of a weighted blanket.
Chestnut arrived as a stray and suffered from extreme confinement anxiety. We could not safely keep him confined to a kennel, often finding him loose in a room after he scaled the kennel walls. Chestnut was lucky enough to find a foster home where we learned:
🐶He has no concept of personal space, he acts like a puppy in a grown dog's body.
🐶He has demonstrated good housetraining habits
🐶Although he can't be crated, he is not destructive when left home alone.
🐶He is sweet, snuggly, and clings like a wet blanket.
🐶He is dog friendly and playful!
Chestnut is ready to transition to a permanent home, making it his personal mission to keep you properly snuggled through any cold night!
