I’ve never really had to deliberately condition a horse. In high school and college I rode so much that the horses were always in shape. After getting a big girl job with Big girl responsibilities, riding just kinda fell to the side, and Ace has always been athletic enough to just handle whatever I throw at her. Baxter being the old man that he is, that’s very much not the case for him.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been riding Baxter 2-3x/week, and it has been an absolute joy! It’s so nice having a “reason” to ride again.

Pika is just as cute as can be in her new blanket! She's never been broke to ride and probably never been blanketed, but she stood like a champ when I put it on. She's the sweetest 💗

Fabulous first day playing at State Line! Hopped out of the trailer and immediately killed it on the obstacle course. I love my sweet mare!

Best day to hose train? When it's a thousand degrees outside! Miss Pikachu joined the herd about 6 weeks ago now, and she's been getting loads of much needed TLC. We absolutely adore her and she's been a doll so far!

What a perfect picture to explain their relationship ❤️

SOLD

Gwen is looking for a new address! Coming 6 year old Clydesdale/TWH cross mare ready to go any direction you want. 15.2 hh, stocky and as gorgeous as they come! She is green, but not spooky. Has a bit of a stubborn streak, but isn’t mean, just gets stuck in place if she’s nervous. She needs miles that I don’t have time to give. She has a nice gait, just needs a rider who will build up her stamina to hold it. She walks quietly on a loose rein and has a beautiful little lope. She’s been ridden on trails and gets better with every minute you ride her. Stands like a rock to mount. Flexes both ways. Picks up all 4 feet and stands pretty well for the farrier. She is barefoot. Occasionally pulls when tied, but that’s now a pretty rare occurrence. Sometimes gives trouble when loading, but my trailer is pretty small for her and she will load right up 90% of the time now.
This mare will make an amazing horse, just needs the saddle time. I’d consider her intermediate or above.

If you’ve ever wanted a gaited draft, here’s your chance! Not many like her out there.

Gwen went on her second big trail ride with us yesterday! She learned several things: how to cross pavement, how to cross creeks, and that mud won’t kill her. I learned that she has a lovely canter, a pretty decent gait (yay!!!), and that she panics if her foor gets caught. A root grabbed her foot, she bucked and swerved, and I had it until the swerving started! We’re both ok, and very thankful for patient friends who don’t mind waiting on a green horse! Overall I’m pretty darn pleased with this big ole filly and look forward to many, many more life lessons in the future. Hobble training is definitely in her future!
