Happy 21 weeks today, Velkan! He's back on the weight gain train - he's now 55 lbs 13 oz. That's almost a 4 lbs increase from last week! He continues to be such a sweet, happy, fun puppy that has fit into the family perfectly. 🥰🐺

We have good news and bad news to share this evening. 😮‍💨

The bad news first: Fay is sadly not pregnant. There was an opening to do her ultrasound this afternoon, instead of next Monday, so we brought her in to verify pregnancy. They looked thoroughly, but there were unfortunately no signs of pregnancy. (Today is 33 days post-ovulation, so it's right in the peak window to verify pregnancy.)

The good news is that we have permission to try again with breeding Fay on her next heat cycle, which is expected to happen in April. Thank you so much to Wolven Hounds for giving us the opportunity to try again with this wonderful girl! She's such a perfect dog, I truly can't say enough good things about her.

Keep your fingers crossed with us for the next breeding attempt. In the meantime, we are so happy to give Fay all the snuggles she wants, as usual! 💕

Today marked 21 days post-ovulation for Fay! The first trimester of her (hopeful!) pregnancy is complete, and we have 6 more weeks to go until her due date! Her ultrasound is scheduled on Day 36 post-ovulation, buuuut I'm honestly going to pester my vet to see if we can squeeze her in a few days earlier. 😅🤣

Ultrasound is a valuable tool to detect canine pregnancy, and the best window to perform that is between 30 to roughly 35 days post-ovulation. At that time, the fetal sacs are big enough that they can show up pretty clearly via ultrasound. It's not always possible to get much of a count at this point - the main goal is just to establish whether or not there are ANY puppies in there. We wait until days 55-58 post-ovulation to have a lateral abdominal x-ray taken, which can help give us a pretty accurate puppy count, by literally counting the skulls and spines visible in the uterus. Pretty neat!

Holly, my favorite redhead! 😌🧡 She's from our 2020 Christmas Litter and is an F4 47% low content wolfdog. She'll hopefully be having her first litter in January 2027. We got a bit of a late start with her contribution to the next generation of our kennel, but we know her puppies will be gorgeous and sweet, just like her!

It's still pretty far out, but we're accepting applications from homes who are planning ahead for their next addition to the family. Genn and Holly's puppies will be F4 ~70% mid content wolfdogs. You can learn more on our website here: www.wolfdogsoftheebonblade.com/genn-x-holly-litter
